  1. gordon is going to team with derrick rose again this weekend on mean street express for the reebok big-time tournament in vegas. mse is in a seriously nasty four-team pool. the other teams in their four-team pool feature players like o.j. mayo, kevin love, alex legion, darquavis tucker, and a few other kids who are going to land at top schools. should be some good basketball.
  2. derrick rose teams with eric gordon to win peach jam.
  3. i wouldn't be surprised to see rose go anywhere at this point. they are running a pretty tight-fisted recruitment. to me there's no legitimate info out there, just rumors and idle speculation.
  4. QUOTE(max power @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) Nice. Hey doc just curious, are there other people who post here from the bears board? not that i know of, any more at least.
  5. eric gordon to join derrick rose's aau team for peach jam
  6. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 06:06 PM) Weber shouldn't try in Illinois then because he's losing a ton of them. So as far as sporst are concerned, the Illini have a great coach who sucks donkey balls at recruiting and a sucky football coach who could recruit with the best of them. Maybe they should spend more time together. i'm not sure its accurate to say weber "sucks donkey balls" when it comes to recruiting when you look at the way the 2007 class is shaping up. there's a good chance this will go down as the best recruiting class in school history, and weber is the guy who's pulled those kids in.
  7. one door closes, another opens. demetri mccamey verbals to illinois. mccamey verbals
  8. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) Weber should just not even try in Chicago, he is just losing them left and right. westchester is not chicago.
  9. so sad. prayers go out to coach walker and his family.
  10. QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 11:51 PM) Just saw it on Illiniboard... and realized again why I don't go there very often anymore. Losing Turner certainly isn't a good thing, but Weber already has 2 solid commits (Cole/Tisdale) and one great commit (Gordon) for that class, and he is still in on a couple other good players. He wasnt the make or break guy for the class. The other thing I dont understand about Illiniboard is that Turner right now is rated comprably to Carlwell, but the majority of posters there don't give Carlwell the time of day, but Turner commits to tOSU and there is a million post meltdown about how Weber can't recruit. good point. it is disappointing, though. to have top instate kid declare illinois his leader, then commit to a rival in-league school a few weeks later is a bit disconcerting. but to be honest, i was always somewhat skeptical of turner coming to illinois. the st. joes-illinois history is not good, and i was always bothered by the fact that turner has a lot of family in columbus and spends a lot of time here. that, and you have to give matta props. dudes a helluva recruiter. still has something to prove as a coach, imo, but a great recruiter no doubt.
  11. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) Don't forget Bagwell for Anderson or Smoltz for Doyle Alexander. we talked about the smoltz deal. long-term it's no doubt that was a bad deal. but in the short term, alexander went like 9-0 with a 1.53 era in 11 starts. he was no doubt a key part of that tiger season. but long-term it was bad. if you are into the sabermetrics thing, i think it was one of the worst deals ever in terms of win-shares exchanged. i'm no expert on that though. i've just been told that.
  12. i was debating this with a few friends the other night and they came up with some doozies: -brock for broglio (obviously) -pedro martinez for delino deshields -sandberg and bowa for ivan dejesus -tom seaver for pat zachary and doug flynn -curt schilling, steve finley, and pete harnisch for glenn davis anyways, those were a few we brought up. they mentioned sosa for george bell as well. what are yours?
  13. whether or not mariotti wants to believe it, it is part of his job to go into locker rooms, as i'm sure just about most professional journalists would agree. it's about being accountable for what you write, and being willing to discuss things with the people you are writing about. his stance of not going because he was "threatened" in the past is complete and utter nonsense. if someone was stupid enough to hit him or physically attack him, two things would happen. one, the fight would be broken up almost immediately, and would not be severe. two, he'd have a lawsuit on his hands that would likely multiply his income 10-fold. so him claiming that threats of an attack have kept him out of there is just plain ridiculous. it's because he doesn't want to answer for his repeated personal attacks on people, and to me that's unforgiveable. i mean, i understand why he doesn't want to go in there. locker rooms suck. it's the worst possible place to conduct and interview, and i just about loathed every trip i made into one. but i did it because that was what the job required.
  14. of course we love him, as we should. i think the "tiring of his act" view is more indicative of national media and national fans, rather than fans of the sox.
  15. according to some folks on an illinois board, arrelious benn was on campus yesterday.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) Yup. Back in the 90's when Ron Coomer was their best player, he would lead the team in HR's with like 16. i just think that considering the era we just went through, to go almost 20 years without a player have 30-plus homers is a statistical anomaly of some sort. add in how good the twins have been for much of that time, and it gets even weirder.
  17. this blurb really surprised me: that's an interesting stat. i would not have guessed that.
  18. in college, i met all the guys in phish. i wasn't really a fan, but i did an advance story on them for the school paper and got some free tickets to their show at mabels. hung out and had a rolling rock with them before the show. nice guys. i met flea and chad smith from the red hot chili peppers outside one of their shows. met billy corgan at the same show. he was really quiet.
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) That video is from a game at the Illini practice facility during a camp earlier this month between 2007 big man verbals Mike Tisdale and Bill Cole. It's only about 3 minutes, but definitely suggested viewing, especially if these 2 verbals make you nervous in terms of how good they are. I will say that I have seen Cole in person in a few times, and seeing this video (which shows off Tisdale a lot better) shows me why Bruce wanted (and got) both of them, as they are different in a lot of ways. Cole is more of a 3/4 combo player who is pretty quick and athletic for a 6'9 guy, can shoot 3's, but is also a pretty good shot blocker and mid range shooter. As for Tisdale.....I think he could be a MONSTER steal. Obviously playing at a Class A school means he will have his doubters and be overlooked, but he's a legit 7'1, has range out to the 3 point line and beyond, a VERY quick and high release on his shot (a la Brian Cook), and is surprisingly athletic and quick for a guy that size who is only his age. Also a very very impressive shot blocker. Overall, they both need to (and will gain weight), but I think Cole seems like a guy who will be a solid starter/super 6th man type here. As for Tisdale, more time to develop, maybe a redshirt year, and a lot of cheeseburgers....and wow he could be just a star player. He excites me as much as any recruit we've gotten not named Eric Gordon since the 2002 superclass. Figured you might be interested (Illini fans especially). It's good to see us getting talent like this, since we will need it with Thad recruiting at tOSU, and now Kelvin Sampson who is a proven very good coach at IU, along with Izzo and Bo Ryan of course as well. great video, thanks for posting it. tisdale has a nice shooting touch, and cole is a bit more athletic than i'd read to believe. very encouraging.
  20. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) I think its pathetic. well, that too.
