  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 08:03 AM) The girl in that movie was hawt. Michelle Johnson was 17 when they signed her to do that role. ( Blame it on Rio for those of you who don't know). She later married Matt Williams (yes the ex Giants and Diamondback 3rd baseman).

  3. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 06:59 AM) exactly. keeping torres on the roster makes no sense. and what has torres done in his time here to earn a longer look or another start? Had one decent start and one bad start which you can say about just about all our starters in their last 2 starts.
  4. Great , pick on a new poster , make him feel welcome .
  5. Sox have lost 10 out of last 12 on the road. That must change NOW !
  6. This is all contingent based on weather or not we get Rios. If we get Rios we can kiss Dye goodbye, which is why KW was kind of pissed about the lack of secrecy regarding the Rios claim. If everything remained a secret then Dye has no idea the Sox are considering parting ways with him.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 03:39 PM) Peavy's starting in the minors next week? This is great. Yes is he Thursday night in Charlotte !
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:53 PM) The defense has just murdered Mark in the last week. He hasn't exactly been helping himself by leaving his pitches up in the zone either.
  9. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:04 PM) Dye will be the DH... he is younger and can still play the field... KW has no problem letting aging DH's go (Frank Thomas) I wouldn't be so sure about that. Basically the Sox have a choice of who would DH next year. Financially it would be best if Dye, Thome and Contreras were all off the books. Rios essentially replaces Dye. The Sox could offer Thome or Dye reduced money to come back as DH . The Sox need a lefthanded bat more . So if either or both Thome and Dye sign elsewhere the Sox would be looking for a LH hitting DH. Pods perhaps if Jordan Danks is ready to play or an option from outside the organization.
  10. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) No, he's 28 right now, not a kid. We'd be paying him $12.5 million a year when he's 34 years old. Players like him do not peak through 34. Likely, he's already had his peak with an .860 OPS. It would be different if he was 25 years old and struggling through his fourth year in the league. He's not. He should be in his prime and the last two years he's been a sub-800 OPS player. Actually he'd be 33 . He'd be 34 in the option year and could be bought out of the final year of $13.5M for $1M.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) I totally agree with this. I like the idea of having a 4 person rotation in the outfield with some time to take at DH as well. However, I still think this could have a really negative impact on the clubhouse THIS YEAR. As for 2010 and forward, I'm all for it. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 01:48 AM) * Please don't be us, please don't be us. I agree with this So are you for or against the Sox getting Rios ? You seem to be covering your bases in either direction since you happen to be the one who said " I agree with this."
  12. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:08 PM) Anyone who watched tonight's game and saw Q and Pods in the outfield (and has been watching Dye play RF) knows why the Sox should try to land Rios for CF. Amen brother.
  13. QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 07:51 PM) I agree, except who leads off this season? Beckham? Pods would not be the odd man out this year . You just give Thome and Pods more rest against lefties . DH Q ,Pods and Dye more. Keeping the guys most likely to be injured fresher.
  14. QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 07:45 PM) Except for the contract, which in this economy is probably more than he's worth. That said, this is a move that makes sense for this team. The contract could be a bargain. The economy is steadily improving so it could be much better in 2011-12-13. He'd be getting Dye money for those years but a younger, faster ,better defensive version of Dye in his prime ( if he didn't peak in 2007).
  15. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 07:33 PM) Unless Toronto is going to take $30 million of the $62 million in salary. Then you probably can give up an Infante + Shelby + Retherford, something like that. Maybe even you give up Torres. If Rios costs only $32-$40 million over the next 6 years, it's an OK pick up. But the $62 million sucks up a lot of money that you could be using to, say, lock up Beckham long term. There's no reason at all to lock up Beckham right now long term as he's under the Sox control for quite a while.
  16. This would be like a great off season happening in season with Peavy and Rios. Why compete with other teams for free agents when through waivers we can work something out right now ?
  17. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 07:24 PM) If the choice was Figgins vs. Rios another plus for Rios is that if something happens where Figgins loses speed, Figgins then loses a ton of value. Rios has power potential that should only increase in the Cell, so I think he'd be a better longterm investment. The fact that Rios plays a better CF helps too. I really hope we get this claim and the Jays dump Rios on us for nothing. I'd be thrilled. I'm with you on this. Figgins is 3 years older than Rios so Rios figures to be better longer.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) Rios is a whole lot of money. One of the worst contracts in the game. So i'm very tenative about picking him up. I wouldn't object to a package of Ely, Shelby and Harrell, with anyone of the Danks variety being off the table. This is a risk/reward type thing. Financially, the risk is HUGE. Rios contract isn't that bad. Maybe you're confusing him with Vernon Wells contract which is the worst in baseball. You take away Dye, Thome and Contreras contracts for next year and in the coming years replace Konerko with any number of power prospects in the minors who aren't currently 1st baseman and keep the 5th starter young and cheap also. Throw Jordan Danks in there and Flowers to replace AJ and the only high paying contracts in the next 3 yrs or so is the starting pitchers and Rios .
  19. I really think it's the Sox who claimed him. Let's do some math shall we ? Rios is owed about $2M this yr. and 9.7M in 2010 = $11.7 . If the Sox were to pick up Dye option for 2010 that's $12M . So for basically the same price the Sox would have Rios instead of Dye. This solves many problems such as how do the Sox get younger, faster and better defensively and who replaces Dye. It also gives the economy another year to rebound and possibly get more corporate sponsors back in the coming years . Imagine the Sox contending for the next five years in a row. The economy rebounds and sponsors all want to jump on the Sox bandwagon. By the time 2011-2014 rolls around if the economy does indeed rebound Rios contract might look like a bargain if he stays relatively injury free and produces at the same rates he's been for the prior 3 years. Rios also would replace Wise or Kotsay on the roster which is a huge upgrade for this year. If Jordan Danks can come in and play decently the Sox have a cheap outfield option there. Alex Rios is a younger version of JD physically and we'd pay him the same as we're paying the older slower version. It makes a lot of sense to me.
  20. QUOTE (Wedge @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) Does that make Colon the Stay Puft Marshmallow man?
  21. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 01:03 AM) i would not be shocked if beckham4thehall turned out to be beckham himself. he isnt blogging anymore and he seems like some1 who would go on here and make grandiose statements about himself in a completely overly sarcastic manner. either way i say keep it up HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !! No f'in way .
