2010 Chicago White Sox Spring Training
Rios homered to center field and hit a sharp single against Seattle yesterday.
-
Jared Mitchell is playing like a #1 prospect
In the B game yesterday Mitchell went 2/3 with a double and 2 stolen bases then in the other game against Seattle added an RBI triple in the ninth.

The 2010 DH Slot -- What it is, what it isn't
I inspired 2 more barbs . Just saying he's a valuable piece to the team. Certainly a good bench player. He played well last year. It got him a new contract and a spot on the team. How many AB's he gets is still not clear.

The Big Board!
Great job JPN ! Something I noticed though. Sergios Santos is out of options so if he doesn't make the 25 man roster he won't end up in the Sox minors will he ? With his arm someone will pick him up.

The 2010 DH Slot -- What it is, what it isn't
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 7, 2010 -> 06:53 AM) If you're going to use it for situational match-ups, then you should have better situational hitters than Kotsay/Jones. Jones isn't particularly strong vs LHP, and Kotsay is nothing special against RHP. Not a great fan of the rotating DH situation but I have to remind myself while reading the barbs directed towards Kotsay that is he a professional hitter . He knows what he's doing up there. His contribution last year would have been invaluable had the Sox been in the race last year.

2010 Chicago White Sox Spring Training
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 7, 2010 -> 07:14 AM) I think you can extract a few items from what little the sox have demonstrated, not the least of which is the value of our newfound team speed (not just talking about stolen bases) I'm not one of those people who thinks ST is meaningless. Just about every team has a few open spots on the 25 man roster and ST can make or break who makes a team. Positive things happening sure beats the hell out of negative things .

Key to White Sox Offense - Feeling Good.
http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws Yesterday was a good day for White Sox fans looking for signs of life in the Sox offense. Q with 2 home runs against the Cubs in a 15-3 romp. Nix 3-3 with a HR and 2 opposite field hits. In the other game against the Dodgers the Sox hit no HR's but still scored 8 runs with Jared Mitchell having a pair of RBI doubles. Both games the Sox played errorless ball. Baseball's back. 2 wins . Whooping the Cubs, stolen bases, power, prospects doing good, good D and reliable pitching. For one day in spring it's all good .

2010 Chicago White Sox Spring Training
It's good to see days like yesterday that give you hope for the White Sox offense. 15 runs against the Cubs , 8 against the Dodgers . I know it means next to nothing since it's ST and all but its sure beats getting shut out twice.

Sox @ Dodgers
Morel singles, 2 outs later Mitchell doubles home Morel and Gartrell singles home Mitchell 8-3 Sox.
-
Sox @ Dodgers
Eric Gagne pitching now for Dodgers

So who are everyone's nominees for the...
Its spring (don't want to think of Sox failures yet) so I'll just do the Ozuna award. Clevelan Santeliz .

The 2010 DH Slot -- What it is, what it isn't
If Andruw Jones shows he can still swing a bat and field all this goes away and we all are happily proven wrong.

Comparing 2005 to 2010
PECOTA projected the Sox at 80 wins in 2005 and also for 2010 .

Comparing 2005 to 2010
If Rios hits like he did last year we'll be comparing him to Andruw Jones not Aaron Rowand.

Tuesday's B-game
QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 07:56 AM) Mitchell, Viciedo, Jordan Danks to start in Tuesday's B-game The White Sox's lineup for Tuesday's B game against the Los Angeles Dodgers has yet to be posted, but it's certain that many of their top prospects will be in the starting lineup. Jared Mitchell, the Sox's first pick in the 2009 draft, will lead off. Mitchell has been mentored this spring by Juan Pierre. Dayan Viciedo will start at first base after playing last season at third at Double-A Birmingham. First base is Viciedo's projected position in the majors. Jordan Danks, who looks taller than his listed 6-foot-4 height, also will start in the outfield. Here is the Sox's lineup: Mitchell lf Danks cf Flowers c Viciedo 1b Kroeger dh Nix 2b Lillibridge ss Morel 3b De Aza rf Floyd p Mitchell LF Danks CF Flowers C Viciedo 1B Kroeger DH Nix 2B Lillibridge SS Morel 3B De Aza RF Exact same lineup Kalapse posted in the spring training catch all yesterday .Pretty damn strange. Post #215.

What are our realistic chances to land Damon?
Had to go with 20 because I'd like to think there is some chance of landing the new JD.
-
Tigers Sign Damon - 1 yr, 8 mil; NTC
I don't think anyone should start getting excited about Damon coming here just yet. Since Boras is involved I think Damon ends up anywhere but here. It would be very exciting if the Sox did land him since most of us hate the idea of Jones and Kotsay getting too may AB's.

Tigers Sign Damon - 1 yr, 8 mil; NTC
Offer 1 year $5 mil. with with incentives worth $1-2 mil. with an option for next year with a 500K buyout. If Detroit really is offering 2/14 guaranteed they can have him.

Buehrle or Peavy on Opening Day?
The real question is " Who starts on opening day Kotsay or Jones" ?

The Jim Thome Saga Ends
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) If the Liriano of 2006 returns we are in DEEP s***. All the more reason to add a good LH bat NOW, before the season starts. rather than later when KW comes to his senses.

The Jim Thome Saga Ends
Two of the best Sox blogs in the business summarize why there really is no excuse or KW to be deferring to Oz on personnel decisions. http://soxmachine.com/soxmachine/2010/01/2...llen/#more-1269 and http://www.southsidesox.com/2010/1/25/1269...ot-a-fan-of-the These are must reads IMO.

Andruw Jones in the Best Shape in a Decade?
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 08:29 PM) He also wouldn't be the first national reporter to include a 1 line positive mention (or "POS-MEN") in a column in order to appease a good source within an organization. I also don't doubt that it's true, it's just hard to get excited about something that dozens of players do each offseason with little success, this is just the first of 100 or so snippets lauding a ball player for dropping weight over the offseason. It's good to see such dedication out of him but it's become a cliche and something teams float this time of year to get fans excited about certain players. Bingo and right before Soxfest since Williams expects to hear a lot of stuff about " why no DH ? " and "hey Kenny isn't this the American League ? "

Sox agree to terms with John Danks
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 01:38 PM) I wanted him as part of a CF platoon last season. Given how productive he was with the Cubs in '08 I'd take him over what we have right now. He put up something like a .950 OPS against right handed pitching as a member of the Cubs. Paul Cohen, the agent for Jim Edmonds, said it's "better than 50-50'' that Edmonds signs with someone by the end of next week. The Cardinals are one of the teams in the mix for the four-time All-Star, who didn't play in 2009 after splitting 2008 with the Padres and Cubs. Edmonds, who will be 40 on June 27, has been working out all winter with the goal of landing somewhere. per Jon Heyman
