  4. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) Like somebody said, it's tough especially when we're in the "not so great" part of town. Trust me, if we played in the Cubs part of town, we'd be the popular team. Sully I think this statement says a lot without saying what a Chicagoland historian or sociologist could probably tell you about the breakup of southside neighborhoods in the 60's and 70's and I am not that person. Now Sox fans live farther and farther away from U.S. Cellular than they ever have before. The North suburbs are a lot closer to Wrigley Field than the south suburbs are to US Cellular. It's a lot easier to be a Cubs fan because all you have to do is follow the rest of the sheep around you who won't question your fandom with inane questions about who was your favorite Cub growing up. Sox fans all seem to be knowledgable about the current team and teams of the past whereas all a Cub fan has to know is where the TV cameras are pointed so they can wave in the right direction. Becoming a Sox fan is a tradition past down from fathers to sons whereas becoming a Cubs fan is more like "hey smoke this , it'll make you feel good."
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 06:22 PM) I'm hearing stories where people say he should of gone to third and that Cox was waving him. I don't know. He got a double, that's good enough. We should of got him in, 'nuff said. This I'm in total agreement . Guy leads off with a double . Don't fault him for it when baseball 's unwritten rule says don't make the 1st or 3rd out at 3rd base. Blame Ozzie for not bunting him over. Blame Thome for not pulling the ball if you want to blame people. But don't blame the guy who just knocked one off the wall to open the inning. If a few more guys knock the ball off the wall just like Anderson did then we're talking about a W.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) There's another pole right behind the foul pole. It clearly hit that pole, and was correctly called foul. A pole behind the pole , who woulda thunk it ?
  7. I just saw the replay on Comcast and it sure looks like the ball changed direction and the only way it does that is if it ticked the foul pole.
  8. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 09:52 AM) Kong is a late scratch.... Swisher now at 1st, Anderson in left, Ramirez in center Uribe at 2nd.
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) One thing to consider is the decrease in PED use especially amphetamines. The older players stats will be worth watching for a decrease in performance during August and Sept. The energy drinks that are now prevalent in the dugouts will only go so far. These factors may require a closer look at rest but closer to the end of July and August. The nagging injuries may take a greater toll on the players. I just read an article on why teams road records this year aren't that good. The White Sox till recently had a decent road record but have now lost 5 in a row on the road. The reason that made the most sense was the theory on using "greenies" . Players are more fatigued on the road but aren't using "greenies" anymore. Don't know if Fields is the answer, but it's rather ignorant to assume just because these are major leaguers that they don't get tired. Constant air travel , odd hours and changing time zones wrecks havoc on the body which is the reason why players turned to amphetamines in the 1st place. They have been part of the baseball culture for probably 30-40 years.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) I don't think his comment was intended to be in the tone you're making it out to be. I think he meant it just as an FYI, not trying to make you look bad. Thank you . You are correct. That was my intent.
  11. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) Wow this is spooky, one of my last reports of the school year was on the Black Sox, and then about 2-3 weeks ago i watched the movie. Awesome Movie. Sadly i didnt know Asinof was that old. He wrote Eight Men Out 45 years ago.
  12. Not sure this belongs here but it White Sox related. Move it if need be. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AhR2...p&type=lgns
  13. It's everyones responsibility to remember this thread even when it gets locked. As long as we're in 1st place keep bumping it back to the 1st page.
  14. Woo hoo !! Keep dis sucka open !
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) Walker was asked about Ozzie trying to send a message in Tampa and Walker said he thought Ozzie was just angry. I thought he was just angry too. But considering TB had won 17 out of their last 19 at home , I wasn't terribly upset with the results. The Sox played them very competitively and it was good baseball if not good hitting. It's possible Oz wanted to say something right before the big stretch of home games we're playing to upset the apple cart slightly to create an atmosphere of urgency ,but I doubt he gave it that much thought. But on the other hand you never know.
  16. To quote Flounder from "Animal House".. "Oh, boy, is this great!! "
  17. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 04:06 PM) I wish we could dig up the response thread from when Kenny Williams said "It puts them(Detroit) in position to compete with us" after the Miguel Cabrera trade. Im sure there are some great quotes I think Kenny said that in jest or with tongue firmly planted in cheek. Maybe KW would never admit it but I doubt in his wildest dreams he imagined Joe, Alexei, Gavin , Q and Danks all having the kind of years they are so far. For that matter either could many of us. I was hoping 1 or 2 of them could contribute but nothing like it has been.
  18. QUOTE (Cubano @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 04:38 PM) I love the White Sox, but I live in WV close to D.C. I hate the Orioles and the Nats or Senators has a rich history with cubans. I like for him to sign with a bad team so he can be in the big leagues soon. I do not want him to sign with a big market team. Jamie Torres is a good agent and unlike other agents he tells his cuban clients that sometimes signing with a so so team is better than a big market club. Less money upfront but later on you are rewarded because you can shine with the bad team and make the big bucks once you are a free agent. I don't know how old you are but Zoilo Versalles signed with the then Washington Senators in 1958 and led the Twins to their 1st World Series win in 1965 and was named A.L. MVP. I know he was Cuban ( he passed away in 1995) Who else have the Nats/Senator signed out of Cuba ?
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) Not unless somehow God touched the heart of Scott Boras, made his heart grow 3 sizes that day, and convinced Joe to be extended first. Every Who Down in Who-ville Liked Christmas a lot... But the Grinch, Who lived just north of Who-ville, Did NOT! The Grinch hated Christmas! The Whole Christmas season! Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason. It could be his head wasn't screwed on just right. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight. But I think that the most likely reason of all May have been that his heart was two sizes too small.
  20. Judging by the amount of posts in this thread eating crow is not a favorite thing to do. Give Kenny his due. He's doing a good job.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 06:02 AM) I heard it was actually Ray Durham in 1999. Anyways, just for snorts and giggles, Crede is on pace for 37 homers and 104 RBI. This is from the Sox website ..."The third baseman is the first White Sox player to hit two home runs in back-to-back games since his predecessor, Greg Norton, did it on May 27-28, 1999, against Detroit."
