  1. I keep saying that new TV contract after the 2019 season is a lot more important then most of us know. The Mariners went from a $450M 10/yr deal to $2Billion over 17 years. I don't know what the Sox are worth but it surely will go up once the new TV deal is in place. The better the team and ratings the better the new contract is , the more the team is worth when it's sold because Jerry knows the end is coming . I don't know much about this end of the business so others might make a better case. That means we have to be good this year. There will be record contracts signed with the Sox over the previous high of the $68M Abreu got. Maybe as many as 3 of them if they can. At this point in his life Reinsdorf might be more motivated to make the frabchise woth more to the other investors and his heirs than winning championships.Making the franchise worth more is certainly the closer goal.
  2. Probably something like the NHL made a few weeks ago.
  3. Recently Hahn has sold it as such. There's the going outside the organization comments about pitching and the we can't pick and choose when free agents become available comments. Of course they also can't pick and choose who will accept our offers. There is no doubt in my mind that changes are coming to improve the team in order to make a statement and to make the new TV contract as good as possible. How much the team improves depends on what we spend on FA's. and meaningful improvements from young guys already on the team and Eloy. The only way we suck in as bad in 2019 as we did the last 2 years is if the FO strikes out . But if they do strikeout. it will be swinging not looking.
  4. Thank you all for your tireless work @Future Sox !?
  5. I don't doubt there's a possibility Robert is faster than Engel. I just don't see any proof of it using the same measuring stick. Guys like Engel and Robert need to be measured in the same way. Home to 1st times might be good to see who gets from home to 1st fastest but they do not indicate who is fastest. For example some guys are faster getting out of the box than others. Also when does the clock start on home to 1st times? Is it at contact? How is it measured ? A stop watch ? Sorry I'm jut bored ?
  6. That would be a full second faster than the fastest guy currently in MLB when the top guys are only separated by tenths of seconds. Unless it's statcast verified that time is highly unlikely.
  7. I think it's more of an I'm not just an OF , I'm a team player kinda thing . Yes I'm sure it's mostly aimed at the Yanks because they have always preferred a LH 1st baseman because right field is a HR hitters pasadise.
  8. This is exactly what I've said all along. Give me that 1.000 OPS again. If playing 1st base helps that I'll take the LH bat at GRT any time.
  9. I know others have disagreed when I mention Harper playing 1st base because of his poor OF play and the future OF's we have in our system . I recently found this https://www.mlb.com/news/bryce-harper-could-play-first-base/c-300343118
  10. Where did you find that Robert is faster than Engel ? According to statcast Engel is as fast as Billy Hamilton at a top speed of 30.1ft/second which is 4th in all of MLB.1st is 30.5 ft/sec so i is very difficult to be faster than Engel.
  11. I didn't either but I googled it for the hell of it and voila. found it. Figured hey, Jetsons was made a long time ago when baseball actually was stlll America's pastime. Damn . I hope you're not as old as me.
  12. Haha but would you have searched for Elroy playing baseball ?
  13. Gonna get some Big Maple on the Big Apple.
  14. Impressive half. Good O, good D, takeaways, good run game , good wide receivers, impressive scrambling by MT, and no uprights hit.
  15. There are many reasons people of all races get fired. Check out the reasons and if any of these employees thought that some of the reasons were because of discrimination or EEO related then they should act on it including her. If she thinks making it public will help that's her prerogative,
  16. He's been pretty good the last few years and healthy. He's as good as anyone else to eat innings with a chance to be very productive. I'm sure the Sox will be checking on him and make an effort to acquire him just as they will on quite a few guys. Everyone we talk about acquiring has issues, Even the whales we hear about lack of hustle , bad influence, bad fielder ,inconsistent and on and on.
  17. Are we going to have to go through this every time a free agent signs or a guy gets traded ? Yes our roster sucks and many many guys that sign with other teams or get traded might fit us . That doesn't mean Hahn is a sleep at the wheel . It just means there are 29 other teams that will be making moves We can't moan about everyone other teams get and we don't . It's a total meathead reaction.
  18. This is how I feel . I love great defense but to have a great fielder and iffy bat isn't worth what Heyward got or is getting. Give me Harper with his walks his HR power at the Cell and let him loaf, play 1st base whatever. Anything to try to get him back to 1.000 OPS and keep him in the lineup. I want the whale and a studly lefty big bat that gets people on their feet, drops jaws and generates excitement . I want a whale bat hybrid.
  19. He has blazing speed and appears to be a smart base runner. He also has a high motor and gives a ton of effort. These are all positive attributes and are part of his 5 tool package. Yes it sucks when these very same tools end up in injuries that stunt his progress. But there's only 1 way to play the game in some players minds and that kind of play probably shouldn't be discourage . Manny Machado might think differently since for the last 5 yearshe has been injury free, playing almost every game and content enough with that not to be Johnny Hustle. If he had any kind of injury history he might not be poised to make $300M +. It's tempting to wish the Sox could ask him to tone down the steals but it's not likely they will considering he just stole 2 more bases in today's game.
