  1. Sort of off-topic, but thought some here might find this deal useful. Some MLB caps at Amazon are $10 today, including some Sox caps. Link: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=xs_gb_rss_3092...tag=rssfeeds-20 Taken from RaGe420 at slickdeals. Rep him if you're a member.
  2. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 03:59 AM) Forgive me for not having read all 32 pages of discourse and discussion but I don't see anyone calling you a racist? To me this just appears to be a long winded way of saying you can't win this argument. A kewpie doll for you. He posted a dishonestly written article that took something ridiculously out of context in an effort to reverse its meaning. I actually go back to the source the article's referring to, yet clearly I'm the one not interested in "discourse and discussion". To hell with you, YASNY. If partisan hack jobs like this are what you really bring to the "discourse and discussion", I won't miss you or your little martyr pity-party. Adios.
  3. If you had Rauch in your lineup tonight, GO OUT AND PLAY THE LOTTERY RIGHT NOW.
  4. H2h or roto? How many players per team? There may be a cheapie way to do it for a roto league in Yahoo. But it's kind of labor intensive.
  5. "I don't seek the presidency on the presumption that I am blessed with personal greatness." Interesting line. I wonder if it will play.
  6. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) They made the same complaints about Bush Sr. Ultimately, the majority will work for him and typical Republicans will vote for him. "We will bolt," a few might threaten lately, but I imagine (with an old political cartoon from the Truman age in mind) a Republican Elephant asking, "Where to, Brother?" Wait, I wasn't saying they will "bolt". They don't need to, they just need to be apathetic. Bush Sr is a very good comparison, especially his loss to Clinton. The attitude towards him after he broke his no-new-taxes pledge was as close to seditious as you can get while still technically being supportive. That said, I think McCain is doing a good enough job of pandering that he likely will avoid that problem.
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) I did post the actual text from the column, and the link to it. No, I mean the actual text on which you are making a point. You posted a link to a column which referred to an article which linked to a blog which -- finally -- had the text of the newsletter. That's the only relevant text, the rest is just reactions to it, which are no more important than posts on a message board. Just like you wouldn't trust a Marxist blog's take on some memo from Karl Rove, I'm not going to trust the reaction of a rightwing nutjob online newspaper in an article about the presumptive Democratic nominee. If it's a valid point, you should link to the actual text that they are reacting to. Moreover, as I pointed out, the WorldNetDaily article, and the column you linked which referred to it, took the D of I comparison completely out of context, in fact completely inverted the meaning of the comparison. It's sleazy, dishonest hack work.
  8. Rotoworld reports that the Orioles have released Jay Gibbons, eating $12 mil left on his contract.
  9. I dunno. If someone was making a food run and asked if I wanted "a Harry hot dog"? That might reduce sales a bit, that's all I'm saying.
  10. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) Wrong. The righty/left spilt is about 3:2, not an even 1:1. I think he's looking at Thome's 2007 stats, when he had (iirc) 290-something abs vs rhp. He's not assuming a 1:1 ratio between rhp and lhp, it's just that Thome will miss some time anyway with interleague, assorted small injuries. 500 abs is about a full season for him.
  11. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 11:18 AM) It's about 200 HR and 1,000 RBI. That's not too bad. I'm not trying to sweep the offensive categories. I'm going for balance. Instead of having a 12 points in HR and 5 in SB, I'd rather have a 10 in HR and a 10 in SB. That's my philosophy. And judging from the mock's I've done, Victor Martinez generally goes late second. I've neve seen Vicorino drop below R10. I hadn't thought about Michael Bourn even though he is on my draft board. Probably could spare Pierre and pick somebody up like Markakis in the 7th or 8th round. That's pretty low for Markakis. In my 3 drafts, Markakis has gone 6, 5, 5. Victorino has gone 11, 10, 9. If you really like Victorino, 8th seems reasonable, but 7th is still sort of a reach, imo.
  12. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 12:07 AM) My topic of concern is not about Wright being racist. That's a given. The man is slime. My point is that the great uniter Obama sat through all this hateful rhetoric that Wrights was spewing, and still won't disassociate himself from the man. Add in Mrs. Obama's recent remarks, and I am very leery of Obama. In other words, like when most politicians open their mouths, I don't believe a word Obama says. I believe in addition to being a very eloquent speaker, he's a world class bulls***ter. And Bomber, don't expect any comments on the Hamas thing. Those things get strategically ignored. Wrong. You linked to one story which references an article in an extreme right-wing paper, and left the rest of us to chase link after link to find any hint of context. Now, time is finite, and if it's not worth your time to provide the full context, I don't see why I should spend mine on it. What, exactly, was the endorsement? Did he say that everything Hamas does and all the points in its charter are good? Or that this one article, which does not mention killing all Jews, is good? The "Declaration of Independence" bit is particularly misleading. The article is NOT arguing that the charter is exemplary, as we typically see the D of I to be; it's arguing that most foundational documents are in some sense morally questionable -- as the D of I was hypocritical in calling for equality while denying equality to slaves. The effect is in fact to dismiss the charter, to argue that Hamas should not be judged by it. The church is publishing an article, then, that contains an apology for and renunciation (however minor and unconvincing) of the charter which contains the words about killing Jews. Yet this is twisted by the article you quote into being supportive of the idea of murdering Jews. Ridiculous. If you want a reply next time you post something, post the ACTUAL TEXT you're talking about, or a link to it. Don't ask all of us to go on a goddam goose chase and then say that we're "strategically ignoring" you when we don't feel like wasting the next half-hour of our lives.
  13. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 09:50 AM) The only thing muddled is Ozzies mind. He talked about Ozuna starting and Thome batting 5th against tough lefthanders then did neither. Against the Cy Young winner you have to have your best defense on the field. If you want Ramirez in the lineup just DH him and put Anderson in center. Thome batting 3rd with his 0-11 & 7 K lifetime line against CC . Ozzie puts the most plodding team in against a guy who if he allows base runners won't even need to worry about holding them on. Ozzies convinced by Ramirez' spring that he deserves to play but not Anderson's spring ? BA will never, never, never, never, never, never, never get a chance with the White Sox. Never. Never, never, never. I got my hopes up this spring, too, after telling myself at the beginning of the spring that it wouldn't matter one damn what he does, but it's the same old same old.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 09:33 AM) Weird how Swisher was to be starting at CF, and now all of a sudden, Alexei has won the CF job. I think it's going to be a muddled picture all season long, unless Ramirez produces from the get - go. He's won the opening day job. I still think we could see a good deal of Swisher in center and Quentin in left, until Owens returns.
  15. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 03:15 AM) I got no problem with Thome starting vs. CC, whether he can hit him or not, Thome still provides a pressence in the lineup... however, he should be batting 5th with Swisher in the 3 hole. Oh, and how we need non-hitting presence to win games. Minnie Minoso would be a presence, should we sign him up, too?
  16. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 11:28 PM) So Ozzie is going to bench Quentin or Anderson for Ramirez, but he won't dream of benching Uribe or even Anderson. This is worse than his BS last year. The Sox finally have some offensive talent, but Ozzie insists on playing his woodchoppers. He won't dream of benching Anderson? What team have you been watching? I think he has wet dreams about benching Anderson.
  17. QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) i'd actually rather have (assuming uribe is going to be in our lineup) alexei at SS, uribe at 2nd, BA in CF with garland over floyd in the rotation instead of cabrera at SS, uribe at 2nd, alexei in CF with floyd in the rotation i guess that's the way i look at it right now Why would you assume Uribe is going to be in the lineup?
  18. QUOTE(Lemon_44 @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) I'll go with Ramirez in CF over Anderson. Neither has proven himself at the ML level but you know what you're getting with BA and it's not good. You may "know", but I don't.
  19. Not that much pop in the lineup, esp with both Victorino and Pierre (and who knows how much Pierre will play -- it sounds like Ethier'll get the opener). And after you had Figgins -- def should have avoided Pierre until much later. In rounds 2-4 you repeated rounds 3-5 of your last draft, so you didn't get great value out of those picks, although they're all good players. I liked that second draft much better. May want to handcuff Pena to Lyon, if he's still available.
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 12:53 AM) Not big news, but f*** Rotoworld Bulls***. He's a University of South Dakota alum. Saying he's from NDSU is a slap in my face. Maybe Stamer lied to them. The shame was just too much.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 10:29 PM) Eh, if it wasn't opening day I might agree. But if nothing else, it's usually useful to at least put 1 lefty in a lineup just to mix it up. I'd prefer that to the 9 righty lineups Ozzie would put out against Santana sometimes. The lefty may not get a hit, but at least the pitcher sees something different that they have to worry about. No matter how good you are, you can't make a mistake to Thome just because he's the only lefty in the lineup against you. Something different, yes. To worry about, no. 7 k in 11 ab, that's the zenith of futility. I know it's not gonna happen, because it would considered a dis, but it's got nothing to do with baseball strategy. You can't look at Thome's history against Sabathia and think there's anything useful in having him in the lineup.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 06:21 PM) I'd rather bat Thome 5th against CC and give someone like Dye or PK a shot to drive in some runs against a lefty like CC. I'd rather see Thome and his career 0-for-11, 7k line against Sabathia riding the bench, personally. Obviously won't happen, I know.
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) I believe Ozzie just said yesterday or today that Swisher is the CF on Opening Day. I thought I even saw it quoted on here. So, unless Swisher gets hurt or something, I don't think Ramirez is starting on that day. No, he said Swisher will usually be in cf while Owens is out, but he didn't say he'd be there opening day. In the same article, Gonzales reported that it was either Ramirez or Anderson for the opener.
  24. 78-81 The rotation is sketchy, and I'm not crazy about many of the lineup choices, but we did bring in some good hitters, Swisher in particular.
  25. Pretty good. Very lucky that Ortiz fell so far. If Accardo's still available (doubtful), you could pick him up as a handcuff for Ryan.
