He's looking better. Some nice movement the last few hitters. -

Their leadoff hitter has too much power. The Injuns are doomed. -
I need $10,000 to build a filing annex for all the stuff I'll get from Gmail Paper.

Executive Pay and Its Effect on the Economy
jackie hayes replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 09:54 PM) So what can be done? I for one would love to see someone start a mutual fund targeting companies that keep executive pay under control. In theory, these companies will be more profitable, all else equal. That could create a small buck to the trend, but not enough to do a lot in the big picture. Anyone have any other suggestions? Not true. Because of options compensation & bonuses, the companies with the highest paid executives are often the ones with the largest equity gains. (Profitability is another question, but of course a fund wouldn't care about that.) I don't say this to be a jerk, but your fund idea is a nonstarter. The only role I can imagine for policy is limiting cross-board influences. There may be a you-scratch-my-back-and-I'll-scratch-yours effect when the board knows that the ceo knows people on their board, or when your law firm serves his friend's firm, etc. But that's something that's awfully hard to police. To be honest, I think the best answer is merely a certain social ethos. Look at Japan, hardly a 'socialist' economy, which enjoys relatively minute inequality (and has for a very long time). The US has never looked like that, but it's been closer to that than it is today. It's a tough thing to legislate, though. -

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) I think I may start something like that for the 2007 season. Seeing as I'm the one thats pretty anal about how the Gamethreads are archived, etc, I think it would be a fun thing....lets see how this sounds to folks: Gamethread starters: 7 game 'suspension' on starting the thread if we lose when you start. The train keeps a rollin' if we win when you start. It'll keep things fun, and I'll be the one that keeps up with it so no strain on anyone else. Thoughts? I hope Steve is a busy man this year. -
It won't look a thing like KC. WE have green seats, thank you very much.

Which Tribe players would actually start for us?
jackie hayes replied to scenario's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(scenario @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) What's the role of a leadoff hitter? Get on. Get over. Get into scoring position. Period. Not that I agree, but I'm wondering, is this the year Pods figures out how to do ANY of those? Just because power's overweighted in OPS (and therefore in OPS+, too) doesn't make OPS irrelevant. Or, as you put it, "not relatively pointless" (?). Power's not bad anywhere. And referring to "Hall of Fame lead-off guys" is silly. Aparicio is a HOF leadoff man, but I'd be truly pissed if the Sox had a guy with his obp at the top of the order. -

QUOTE(scenario @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) If OPS is your measure of success for a lead-off hitter, then you'd end up playing Dellucci ahead of several Hall of Fame lead-off guys. Bad idea. Don't get carried away. Noone is suggesting they'd play Dellucci over Timo Perez. -

QUOTE(scenario @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 06:47 PM) 2005 Got full-time at-bats; only hit .251; but he did get 76 walks; and hit 29 homeruns; not too bad What, are you f***ing kidding? -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 06:20 PM) Terrero was on the 40, yes. Perez was not. Alright, got it. Thanks, Kalapse.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 06:13 PM) I count 40 currently on the the 40 including Molina. So, we had to drop Tracey to get Danks on. How was the other spot opened up? Were Terrero or Perez on the 40?
-
Rotoworld is saying we purchased the contracts for Danks and Molina, and placed Hall on the 15-day dl. I believe we then have to lose someone on the 40-man (since Molina was not on the 40-man). This right? If so, any ideas who's gone?

QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 04:30 PM) wait so the game is on WGN? I thought it was on Comcast. And if it is why are you f***ing WGN? I am lost. Anyways, anybody going to chat it up during the game? Cuz it's NOT on WGN. Only way I can get it is mlb.tv, which doesn't have the same quality picture. Although sometimes the announcers are better...

80k fans say Sox best franchise in Chicago.
jackie hayes replied to My Dixie Normus's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 04:09 PM) I assumed 0 would be the best possible score. But I guess maybe it's impossible to be a professional athlete and not have some kind of STD. No, in fact, the higher the score, the more it says about your team. The Bears have a 64, but we know at least 20 came from one source. Kind of an aberration. The Cubs are 7. Doesn't that sum up their prospects? Surprisingly, the Blackhawks are 111. I assume that's got something to do with Canadians. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) I wonder how the Sox rated in the STD category. Is it like golf where the lower the score, the better? I would hope so. Yes, 1 = the best, 2 = second best, etc. The Sox in 2007 were #52 in STD. Sadly, we'll never reach number 1 in that category. I think the Bears pretty much locked it up for the next 5 years with that whole Paris Hilton thing. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 03:57 PM) love the Thornton signing, not a fan of Ozuna. A weak defensive player whose game is entirely dependent upon his average is just not a guy I'm a huge fan of. agreed, ^^^^^^, +1 take your pick

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) Thank God, Ozzie decided Pods will ride pine against Sabbathia tomorrow. Nothing's final until that lineup card is in. mlb.tv it is, I guess. We better win the f'n WS this year so I can at least watch next year's opener on cable. And not that it's a surprise, but f*** you, WGN.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) I wouldn't be in favor of drafting a DT. You have to remember they have a HUGE bust rate as well. Higher than other positions? I think dt is a relatively safe pick.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 09:29 AM) Just out of curiosity... if they keep him, he sits 10 and shows up for game 11, what happens if the Bears don't put him in uniform? Or if they just release him? He doesn't get paid in that case then, correct? A franchise tag contract is guaranteed; I don't imagine that would change with a holdout (that is, I'd guess the prorated portion of the contract would still be guaranteed), but that's just a surmise.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 10:15 AM) I said this earlier in the thread. Kenny got what Kenny wanted in the 25 man roster. I can't think of a spot where Ozzie won out. I hate to say this because I don't like the choices that were made, but I guess I have to give Kenny the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. I'm not sure about this. KW lit into Sisco earlier in st, and Ozzie was reportedly ticked about Logan's walks in one of the last B games.

After meeting with Ozzie, he felt so relaxed he didn't want to be bothered with fact-checking. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 01:09 AM) If it's about talent, then we're going to be in a battle with the Twins for 3rd place. I won't admit that. I'm hoping I'm surprised by Danks. A little luck helps, too.
