QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 10:46 PM) That's a little exaggerated, but, yes, relativity does say that. It would take a lot longer than a few minutes for the person to be dead, though. Not if some guy traveling at the speed of light keeps running them over.

QUOTE(JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 11:20 PM) BA, for once i your life you have a chance to prove all the doubters wrong and come up with a big hit. geez, 3-1 85 MPH cockshot and you swing and miss? dude needs to get his eyes checked or something, seriously. i have never seen some one swing and miss so much on absolute cookies. hell put me in there i can take that 85 mph "heater" from todd jones and hit a line drive back up the middle. It was awful, just awful. At the same time, you know he has the talent to hit that. Whatever anyone says about the minors, you don't progress through them if you can't hit pitches like that. I don't know if it's timing, seeing the ball, mechanics, or what, but hopefully someone on the coaching staff can figure it out. We know he can play A ball, what we want to find out is if he's a AAAA player or a big leaguer.

Even on average, Danks was ok. Given any reasonable expectations for a rookie this young, it was an acceptable performance.

Official 2007 NFL Draft Thread
jackie hayes replied to knightni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 07:22 PM) Im not a fan of Thomas, OL seem to be too risky to take in the draft, but decent for late round picks. I bet it's one of the safest position picks. Obviously, Gallery is a bust, but even there you can salvage a serviceable rt out of him. Leonard Davis was a disappointment, but still got a huge contract this offseason. The disappointment you get with a bad olineman is usually that he's not as dominant as you hoped, merely a pro starter. That's a lot more than you get out of Charles Rogers, William Green, or Ahmad Carroll. -
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 01:00 AM) You can't use 10 scattered AB's to form any sort of average and make judgments or conclusions based on the numbers. The sample sizes for the stats being tossed around in this thread are pretty silly in general.

QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 10:40 PM) I didn't understand the thoughts Tony had about knocking off Paulie? Was he talking to much to strangers or just his habits getting on his nerves? Hopefully Sepinwall's article tomorrow will help me. It was a case of a lot of little things adding up. Paulie trying to cover every detail about the job the FBI was digging up, running his mouth constantly (even mentioning some murdered hippie in a group as uncontrollable as those three women), betraying confidence to Johnny Sack, being a prime target for the feds without any earnings. And this for a guy who's had money problems often enough. There's little to recommend Paulie now except pure loyalty, and Tony's trying to weigh that against practicality.

Some people enjoy making a joke of it, I think. This guy who's dropped Matsui, Baldelli, Delgado...a couple others, I just can't remember...has done well in baseball leagues before. And there's just no way a strategy like this can work. For the David Aardsmas of the league. (And I'm an Aa fan, I'll have you know.) The good news is, if a couple more people get knocked off the waiver priority list and Carlos Lee or Ryan Howard follows with enough of a slump to get him off the can't-cut list, they're MINE.

QUOTE(Jay @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) Sweet Jesus! Second base has more reds than Senator McCarthy's worst nightmares! A sly reference to Brian Anderson's political beliefs. I dig, I dig.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) I pray that some of you stop slurping Brian Anderson. It's no more silly than the 'Erstad doesn't have to play well to be a good player' school. I wish BA would get a chance, or at least get regular abs. But at this point I just want to see the Sox s*** or get off the pot. There's no conceivable way this is helping the Sox or BA. Do something, for chrissake. And it's been said a million times, but not often in this thread, so it bears repeating -- I haven't seen a suggestion that the Sox have soured on BA, only that Ozzie's soured on him. KW's been his biggest fan, and I don't understand this apparent assumption that that fact has changed.

I got a good one. This guy just dropped Carlos Delgado. For the immortal... David Aardsma. AFTER the bs tonight. Yup.

Cleveland comes back in the ninth as TB follows through with its 'no Al Reyes on consecutive days' policy. Shields gets effed in the a after a 2 run, 12 k performance. Dammit.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) entering the Dakotas is like entering a time machine. We have western saloons and old west style gunfights and we all ride on horses. Pretty crazy stuff. Hot damn, now I GOTTA go!!! Then again...real men have FISTfights...just sayin'...ya pussy... I've never gone cross-country, only about half-cross-country. I envy you, GP.

Buehrle Steals Spotlight From NBA'S Final Night
jackie hayes replied to JERMAINEDYE4MVP's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 03:57 AM) I hate to be that guy, and I hate to ruin the moment, but, um, no. First of all, they're not going to talk about the NHL or NBA on MLB.com. I mean...duh? Secondly, check those final four. Clicking MLB brings you to the MLB home page of each of those sites. Very cool to see nonetheless though. Just a little nitpicky, maybe? (And USA Today's sports frontpage does have MB. DallasNews, well, they just got their ass handed to them, of course they'll hide it a bit, and as for TSN, c'mon -- they're Canadian, who can understand them?) The main point is how amazing it is the a mere no-hitter is somehow seen as being at least on-par with the enormous accomplishment that is an adequate debut by a rookie cf on an also-ran team. Is that not a tremendous honor for Mark, or what? -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 01:50 AM) Bill Bavasi's worst nightmare has come true. Felix Hernandez, or being beat to the brilliant idea of moving one of your best starters to middle relief?

MARK BUEHRLE HAS PITCHED A NO-HITTER!
jackie hayes replied to ShoeLessRob's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Y'know, I was watching on mlb.tv, but I missed the first few innings, so I didn't even realize what was happening until the start of the 9th. I know Hawk mentioned that he had still faced the minimum at some point, but for some reason it just didn't register right away. Then I thought, 'Huh, does that mean...oh...ohhhh!' Great job, MB!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that we know you can do it, we will expect that every game. No pressure. -
Are you SURE it's not April 1? From Rotoworld, spot-on reaction: There has never been any team more consistently stupid in setting up a bullpen.

33 Dead After Virginia Tech University Shooting

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 01:17 AM) I was wondering the same thing about your post. I agree -- based upon the information we have, not much could have been done. Sorry if I was unclear. I'm just trying to understand those who say that the administration should have done more. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 01:07 AM) Since when does crime have to be predictable? Not every crime fits a model, or suspect a profile. And to address your other question, no -- a campus should not be shut down for any surprising event. In the circumstance here of a double murder -- perhaps a murder/suicide -- the police can only assume what's available to them. If all available evidence suggested it was as an "isolated incident," there would have been no reason to shut down the entire campus. I never said a crime has to fit any model. My only point is that the admin/police cannot be blamed for not shutting down the campus when they had no way of anticipating such a sequel. So I'm not really certain what this argument is about.
