9/18 Sox vs. Bombers - 6:05 pm, WGN
BlackBetsy replied to The Ginger Kid's topic in 2008 Season in Review
I think I can say that I hate this team and the only thing that keeps me interested is the that I hate the Twins even more (with the white hot intensity of a million suns) and I just want to see the Sox beat them in a pennant race just once. Of course, when they choke, I will burn my Konerko jersey on Constitution Avenue and probably get thrown in jail. -

What I would like to see tomorrow morning: "Chicago White Sox - Placed LHP Horacio Ramirez on waivers for purpose of granting his release." -

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) We better be 6 up going into the Minnesota series otherwise I will not be comfortable. Ummm. 5 1/2 is max if both the Sox and Twins lose tonight. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) It really pisses me off that we didn't give Poreda a chance to pitch out of the bullpen. +2. -

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) i'm agreeing. 1-2-3 innings by our offense dont help Javy any. If our offense had scored 6 runs would you be complaining? Because we'd still be behind. Javy doesn't suck so much as he turns into a quivering mass of jello when there is any pressure on him. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) Ramirez has allowed 27 base runners in 11 innings. He sucks too. -

Scatterplot Javy's ERA against the winning percentage of the team he has been on since 2000 and tell me that he's not happier on losing teams. Vazquez is a f***ing loser. The 2006 Sox team scored runs in spades and he managed to have a losing record. -
QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 10:12 AM) Saw this quote on a Twins board and thought it was funny... Gardy comes out of the dugout with Mijares on the mound and I yelled, 'Please not Guerrier!!' Then they flash to the bullpen doors and here comes good ole meat. I threw my remote across the room knowing we were done. Why can we all see this yet Gardy sticks by him despite his struggles game after game after game after game............. All I could picture was Gardy going to the bullpen phone and dialing up the local Buffalo Wild Wings while asking, 'Hey guys, who should I bring in?' Guerrier has become Mahoney. http://www.baseball-reference.com/g/guerrma02.shtml /singing/ Secret agent man.....secret agent man /singing/

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 10:52 PM) Wow, no bats for us and no bullpen tonight again. Wonder if Oz should have used the Thornton, Jenks combo again. They are the only two usable relievers. We might regret not taking advantage of the Twinks' slump when their fans are going nuts soon against us in the Humptydome. WIthout reading the thread, who got all the blame tonight? I think Ozzie. He let Richard pitch to Nady with two outs and runner on second and Nady kills lefties, was his third time against Richard. If you bring in McDougal there, it's a better match up. Three outs, then Thornton to face Cano / I-Rod / Melky in the 8th...Jenks in the 9th. I think the 1-0 lead could have held had he pulled Richard. -
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) I'd love for us to play in Washington in 2010. I want to go to that new stadium- I've heard it's nice. Easily the worst of the new stadiums.

Carroll desperate to throw that one away. Dunno why you just don't step on third. Whatever. Mauer and Morneau down for the Twins and going to the bottom of the 8th. -

Seriously, Morneau up as the go ahead run. Unreal how this happens in like 90% of the games for the Twins. -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 10:05 PM) kelly shoppach after the all star break....295/.381/.633 with 14 bombs I guess you move Victor Martinez to first full time next year? Martinez is plus plus offensively as a catcher but is just kind of average at 1B. But with Shoppach, Sizemore, Peralta, the Indians are Plus up the middle. Hope they never figure out their bullpen issues. Luckily, C Lee will regress to the mean next year. -

Mauer and Morneau get at least one more crack in this game. Never over until those guys get a chance, it seems. -

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) Damn not a strong AB from Shoppach. LETS GO PEN - 6 OUTS! Never ending battle of who has the worst bullpen in the AL Central. First one to get to their closer with a lead wins (except for Detroit). -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) gameday is woefully behind -- what happened? Sizemore infield single. Jamey Carroll awful bunt - Sizemore out at second. Choo batting - wild pitch, Carroll goes to second, Mauer's throw went to the outfield wall (seriously), but Carroll thought Casilla had it and only went to third. Choo pulled a Swish Peralta hit a topspin flyball that bounced in front of and then got past Delmon Young Victor Martinez roped a double into the corner. HAfner intentionally walked. -

Alexi Casilla won the game if this one goes to extras - Jamey Carroll should have scored on Mauer's throw. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) Ugh. This wreaks of the Cotts Incident. How many shots is Clayton gonna get? Broadway has 1 start, it was quality. Don't care if it was KC. He deserves a shot. Not to me. They skipped Buehrle on short rest to get to Cotts in 2003 because they had "won the series" (per Manuel). Here, there is literally no one you could have work on short rest (unless it was Vazquez on two days' rest). -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 10:18 AM) In 2003, it was close in early September but didn't really come down to the wire. On the morning of September 17, 2003, five years ago today, the White Sox were exactly 1.5 games behind the Twins and playing the second game of a three game series in Minnesota that night. I guess that's kind of down to the wire - people forget exactly how close that race was until the final two weeks. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHW/2003_sched.shtml The Sox went 6-6 the rest of the way, while the Twins went 8-3, although that is skewed by the fact that the Sox won the last two games of the season against KC after Minnesota had clinched and Minnesota dropped the last two of the season to Detroit. Effectively, the season was over when the Twins swept the Sox to go up 3.5 games in the standings.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 11:45 PM) Projecting what a player "may" put up is bunk. If projections based on partial seasons were good, then Josh Fields would be making our fireworks budget go up quite a bit. OPS+ is not a projection. It's a real stat based on real performance.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 16th, 2008 -> 11:35 PM) Ask the Twins would they would rather have. Since Alexei costs $1.1 million per year and Buscher is league minimum and Carl Pohlad is a cheap bastage, they'd pick Buscher.
