  1. Jamie Moyer was allowed to get out of his minor league contract. He is looking for work at the major league level. Considering Stewart and Axelrod haven't really been that impressive and also the fact we have Humber and Danks on the DL I think Moyer would be a great and cheap alternative for that 5th starter position. He can give you 5 or 6 effective innings I think and is certainly a veteran who knows how to win. I think he is worth a chance through the rest of this season. His ERA in I think three AAA sytarts was 1.69 or so.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) Youkilis doesnt have much trade value left after the past season dating back to last July. I am sure the Red Sox are trying to get major league talent, because it is their right to ask for the best players possible, but at the same time it doesnt mean either of those players will be moved for Youk I agree but the bothersome thing is WE continue this speculation and the under valuing of our own players. For one thing I don't believe Floyd will go anywhere this season as we seeing our own problems with starting pitching suffering injuries. If we are going to compete we need major league picthers and Floyd is one. I don't see us competing with stop gap replacements from the minors. Quintana has worked out but Stewart and Axelrod have struggled. Matt Thonton is a quality left handed relief pitcher. He might be trade bait but not for Youklis. I see is a story that the Sox are looking for pitching too. Maybe we will take a chance on Jamie Moyer? We don't trade anyone and we get a professional lefty starter probably still able to be effective for 5 or 6 innings.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 11:19 AM) http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...de-for-youkilis This Levine article says any pitching/prospects going to the Red Sox would likely be Class A pitchers. No names. Mitchell makes zero sense because of their glut of outfielders already. Other teams are looking to trade for some of their excess. Trading Gavin Floyd makes zero sense at his lowest possible value (well almost, one start isn't going to raise it SO much) and with Danks' return uncertain...as well as how well he would pitch upon return, Humber out, Quintana and Sale looking at IP limits in August/September, etc. Not to mention while Peavy looks great so far, he has to prove he can pitch one full/healthy season in a Sox uniform. Why is Floyd and Thonton et al continually being speculated on when we talk Youklis. If either of those two went in a trade to Boston for a broken down 3Bman on his last year it would border on highway robbery by Boston. Youk may help us for sure but only for this season and Thornton and Floyd have many good years left. I am not arguing that either may be trade bait but not for a short term fix at 3B and an injury prone fellow at that. IKf we do trade for Youklis it will be contingent on picking up X amount of his salary and/or minor leage prospect (s)
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) You wouldn't deal Viciedo for Greinke with Sale and Peavy pitching the way they are this year? That top 3 could win you a World Series. Who would replace Viciedo? The kid has shown some flashes of being a real good player, but I might agree a Grienke, if signed to a long term commitment with the Sox would be ok with me. Maybe Jordan Danks can play in LF, or we go after Quentin and get him back from SD.
  5. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 03:38 AM) Quintana. Might be a fun game then to watch
  6. Well a victory would help us out for sure. If we sent down Zach for Dylan then Dylan had better be better
  7. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 02:01 PM) A Major League official suggested on Friday night that the White Sox have renewed interest in Kevin Youkilis. Chicago is using a converted second baseman, Orlando Hudson, at third base. The White Sox have had scouts in to see Youkilis and liked him enough that they would take him if the Red Sox absorbed most of his remaining salary, according to a source. Word that I hear is that Boston has realized that basically they will have to eat Youk's salary and won't get much in return. If we were to go with Youklis then it would be a minor league player in exchange is my guess. Boston wants to move Youklis and that is very obvious & I just hope the Sox aren't crazy enough to give up someone on our major league roster
  8. Ok. The guys has little pop in his bat, no speed, average or so fielding skills and a so-so average. Unless a few singles more than what we get now is acceptable I don't see him as a fit unless we claim him and send him to AAA
  9. Any starter will be from within the org IMO. You heard it here first
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 04:55 PM) I've given up checking to see if the Sox are going to be on ESPN, TBS, or MLBN, though they are playing the Yankees next week so they'll probably be on then. LOL. But, if things stay normal for those three networks you would be right. However, with the aversion they have to broadcasting the Sox games I bet they skip them when playing the Yankmees. But, we will see
  11. Only game I can find is Sunday at Noon MDT as Sox take on Brewers over WGN-A. See you behind the big screen
  12. I watched the game last night and Peavy's great game on Tuesday. Last night I was abit worried in the 1st inning, but Gavin got out of it and then that curve started to work and he had a good fastball. I hope this means he builds some confidence from that game and starts on another streak. You have to tinker with the rotation once in awhile to give people a rest so they can stay somewhat fresh. Cubs or any team we face doesn't matter. I think it was a good move. Stewart didn't have it and I wasn't sure he was going to make it anyway, but he is who we had. I am pretty certain he didn't try yo lose, but he just hasn't been sharp many times this season. I am not certain De Aza was hit on purpose, but if he was that's baseball. We won and that is real good payback IMO
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 11:28 AM) I know someone will respond that he doesn't owe anything to the Sox, but if he's got any of that working man's ideology that he so often preaches, he will. I agree with you here Milkman and I think he should make the offer. Wonder if the Sox would accept his offer though?
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 08:29 PM) He is not a very good lefty reliever anymore. He's fine. Not very good. And not worth what he is being paid. Have to disagree. I think he is still pretty darn good considering other lefties we have in the bullpen
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 07:14 PM) Boston's bullpen is actually pretty good but if they would take Thornton for him I'd make the deal in a heartbeat. Even if Youkilis sucks now. Who cares? Thornton sucks too and I hate looking at him. 95 MPH straight fastball with no movement and no off speed pitches. He also walks people. I have always hated Matt Thornton and now I hate him more. Why? You trade a very good lefty reliever for a broken down 3B man. I don't see the grass being greener with this trade.
  16. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) Youk when healthy >>>>Morel/O But, he isn't healthy and not hitting good either. Plus his fielding hasn't been that sharp
  17. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 04:29 PM) Orlando Hudson sucks balls. When he first got here he was taking a lot of walks so I was okay with him, but now he's just useless. I'd rather see Brent Morel back. That will certainly be awhile
  18. Ok now we lost two of three to the best team in baseball out there in LA LA land and now we show we are equal opportunity types by losing the first two to the worse team in baseball. Time to turn this thing around starting tonight. Floyd needs to keep the ball down and win for a change. Grow a pair Gavin. I will be there again behind the big screen.
  19. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 04:13 PM) Where is Teahen at these days anyway? Does anyone think that K.W. would seriously think about reaquiring him or Fields? I don't think so but I guess stranger things have happened when you are desperate
  20. Reading all the posts just reaffirms the truth: we have little to nothing right now in the way of options at 3B. I might rather see Lilibridge playing there than O-Dawg. I watched the game last night and he was pretty bad. I am not sure he even hit the ball out of the in field and all we needed was a nice fly ball to plate that 2nd run. Granted he is playing out of position but his bat seems to have never left the rack. But the game can turn around quickly. What are the chances that in a few days or even tonight that he steps up and wins us a game? He isn't making excuses for sure
