QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) And by all indications Flowers is already better behind the plate than AJ, and AJ really doesn't appear to even call his own games anymore. He always looks into the dugout before putting down the sign. Don't you think this is a common thing across baseball though? The catcher is supposed to be the field leader and needs to check with the manager or bench coach to see if they have a pitch they want thrown or if a play is on. There isn't any catcher I can think of that a TV camera doesn't show looking into the dugout.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 04:39 AM) All Flowers has to be is OK defensively. The great hitting potential he has shown in the minors would simply be a bonus. AJP's money owed is an albatross when one considers what a franchise with our budget issues could do with a few guys off the books. I wouldn't say this if AJ could do much else defensively besides block a pitch. When you consider contract albatrosses on the Sox AJP is not a name or contract I think of. If Tyler Flowers can produce defensively AND with the bat he could become the lead catcher. I don't think it is out of the question that AJP stays for a year or two after 2012. Obviously a lot depends on the Sox winning, etc, but catcher is aposition you need to have some experience and leadership.

Frank Thomas: I could be the White Sox hitting coach.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 06:07 PM) Apparently loyalty is only a valuable commodity when half of Soxtalk isn't in the "F*ck Frank Thomas" Camp. You will never see me in the slandering Frank TYhomas camp -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 27, 2011 -> 06:21 AM) I remembered them having issues a couple different times - I seem to recall in 2002 when Thomas was really struggling and Konerko shot out of the gate like a cannon they were asking PK about Frank and he'd criticized him pretty heavily. Hell, I may have even found the location of that article at some point in time here within the past 2-3 months, but it cost $3 to access it and I'm not going to pay money for that kind of stuff. That's I don't recall if Frank did the same in 2003, but it's quite ironic that Thomas and Konerko had flip-flopping slumps to start seasons in back to back years. I think both have cooled down tremendously from that point and I think they'd be able to co-exist. It's just a concern. I seem to remember the Big Hurt was chastised maybe by PK over a perceived lack of hustle or something only to find out Frank had a broken foot? I believe PK apologized profusely. Am I right or wrong here? -
Flowers will have to show more development this year or I am betting AJP ends 2012 as the #1 Sox catcher and they are trying to extend him for 2013 and 14. Tyler has been inconsistent to say the least, but showed signs of maturing at the big league level. Hard to judge right now what he might do if handed the job. Talent for sure but he needs to show it on a day in day out basis

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 11:29 PM) When is the last time you told one of your bosses you couldn't work with them, and I can only work with the guy you already fired? I kind of think that just because the bosses let someone go it isn't necessarily right or justified. I think it does speak volumes that Frank thought so highly of the man considering the outstanding numbers that #35 put up in hs career. I am sure there were things going on there we don't know about though. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 11:40 PM) This is a guy who had to have his own personal hitting coach flown in because he couldn't work with anyone else. To me, that doesn't bode well as a teacher if he isn't able to adjust to different personalities. Walt Hriniak mind you. The best there was in the biz -
Sox likely to rely on same cast in '12

Take the article for what it is and that's trying to put the best light on a debacle. But, we will continue to see this type of thing and stories about individual players painted in the msot rosey of colors. That's the off season fans and that's all. If we stay put fine but I hope we keep the likes of Danks and Floyd and Quentin. The ones who need to be spanked or sent on their way are getting the bulk of the money talked about in the article and they didn't earn it. But, maybe they will next year? 2012 commeth... -

I think a fellow that put up the numbers that the Big Hurt did in his career knows something about hitting. Whether he is the choice for hitting coach remains to be seen, but I would have no problem with it. The Big Hurt is a dedicated Sox team member. -
Atlanta is a premier organization with lots of young talent. Maybe we needed a change in Chicago, but I think Atlanta saw that Walker is pretty good in his own right.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Oct 22, 2011 -> 07:38 PM) Everybody's missing the big picture here...the White Sox are about to aqcuire a boatload of light hitting shortstop prospects from other organizations who project as utility men.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2011 -> 06:05 PM) "Kenny Williams contradicting Kenny Williams's own statements by making a trade" is something that happens what, 6-7 times a year? He flies under the radar I have heard

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Oct 22, 2011 -> 05:00 PM) If Peavy pitches reasonably well this season and manages to stay reasonably healthy, I wouldn't be surprised to see him come back on a ridiculously cheap 1 or 2 yr deal. He's a competitor and seems to be a pretty stand-up guy. My guess is that he feels as embarrassed about getting paid what he's been paid by the Sox as we are angry. Kind of like folks think Dunn would retire if he can't earn his keep, I think Jake will try to make his lack of performance up to the Sox. Right now that's all we can do and that's hope those two rebound

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 22, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) Williams states that he will move his guys for major league ready talent only, and then in the second paragraph states that he'll have to see what teams are willing to give up and that they may have to trade today's talent for tomorrow's talent, implying somehow that he is trading for A or AA players. I don't believe that to be the case but rather that he's simply suggesting that he is trading today's currently good players for tomorrow's currently good players, but tomorrow's currently good players are still major league ready talent. Sorry but I don't see the contradiction. I will say that if he trades our performers for A or AA talent then he is contradicting himself. Some have called for a rebuild, which I don't think we need. We need non performers getting paid huge salries to step up and perform at the level we expected of them and not trade those who have done the job. Go this route called rebuilding with some elses A or AA talent will mean we struggle for a number of years and that's only of that minor league talent even comes through.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 04:24 PM) If anyone in this organization deserves a cool nickname it is Mark Buehrle. I consider this to be Hawks biggest failing of this millennium. Mark Buerhle says it all

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) 3. Quentin and Danks/Floyd. I can see the possibility of a pitcher being traded. I am not sold on considering Quentin and Floyd/Danks as overkill on the roster as the esteemed Balta has posted. I also do not believe that Stewart is ready and what he did with pitching that one-hit masterpeice is just tease us. He was not that good otherwise. He needs time. Fans are to quick to annoint someone like Viciedo, Stewart, Axelrod, et al, the new starter at their respective positions based on a very small sample size. I remind you that as good as we all want to believe Viciedo is or can be he hit only one homer and drove in five runs in his time with the Sox. Many thought he woud power us to the top in no time at all in 2011. I would hope we keep our best performers and not rely on Rios for example of count on Jake Peavy to rebound and be the Cy Young winner he once was. I am not convinved that trading our better players, or our strength if you will, for someone elses possible prospects is going to do it for us. Possibly signing some mid level or role players that are free agents might make more sense. Of course the argument will be that we don't have the money. I just don't buy into the argument that we need wholesale change. Seems that if we do that it is a more a panic move or knee jerk reaction to one bad season for a number of players. I prefer to keep our own better players instead of trading them of and starting over again.

Ozzie is gone from the Sox and that's that, but he always spoke his mind and that isn't going to stop. He tells the truth as he sees it is all and I guess that's hard for some to accept or take
-
I like BBTN sometimes and MLB network other times so I feel strongly both ways about this matter

Just saw the story that BBTN is adding Ozzie Guillen, who if you have forgotten, is the new Marlins manager. He will add commentary and analysis for the World Series. Should be fun.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) Today we've gotten the "Ventura needs to work with Beckham" article and the "KW is kicking the Central American Scouts butts" articles. It shouldn't be long before we get the "Ventura is Hugging Dunn and Kicking Rios's tail" articles. The only kicking butt stuff for Rios is out the door. He should be traded and we keep Quentin, who doesn't need any butt kicking to perform

CONGRATS TO THE 2011 PTC WINNER!
elrockinMT replied to knightni's topic in PTC/Contest/Fantasy Board
I want to let all Soxtalk PTC players that for third place I received baseball cards from knightni. I got Brent Lillibridge, the 2010 Sox team card and JOE CREDE rookie card. I feel like I won 1st place, which I actually did 3 years ago. I appreciate the gesture from knightni and can't wait for 2012 season to get underway. Not much longer till spring training -
Move is a bit unusual in my mind, but Pena had no chance anyway. To bring up some guys and then drop them is kind of crazy. Maybe we just don't have the talent at the minor league level?

Is there something wrong with a beer? As long as you don't have more than one or two and aren't drunk then who cares?
