Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
elrockinMT replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 11:47 PM) If Kenny Williams has any desire to compete in the next 2 years, M-56 has to be back. If Kenny Williams wants to undertake a full rebuilding, he can let Mark go. For my eyes, I think you have to just say that Kenny Williams is starting over at ground level right now. He offered to resign, his offer was turned down. Now his job is to do the best he can with what he has available to himself. That means making the right decision now about whether to try to go again this year or selling hard on the in-demand assets he does have, with the total salary he can spend hanging over his head.. The time to focus on previous blunders was when he offered to resign If MB is allowed to walk plus some other rumored trades occur, then in my opinion the Sox will be bottom dwellers for at least three years. Regardless I place the blame squarely on the bad past and maybe future decisions made by Kenny Williams. -
Sox have not talked to Danks about extension this winter

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) In both cases, it would be letting a key member of our team go to the division rival who won the division last year because we didn't want the guy back enough to offer a fair deal. The money numbers are different, but there's a lot of comparison there. Especially when that player beats our heads in for several years afterwards. Soft tossing lefty with good control and a changeup? Mark may no-hit the Sox 6 times in the next few years if he winds up in detroit. I agree with Rogers and his article in todays Tribune. I believe that KW and bad decsions just caught up with themselves especially if he lets Mark Buerhle walk. He has made some blunders and might have finally outsmarted himself. -
Yonder Alonso of Cincinatti Reds organization. Who is this guy and will the Sox make a run at him in exchange for a pitcher? Phil Rogers speculates they might and then goes on to say he would be blocked by Konerko and Dunn. He wonders in the article if the Sox would try and get Konerk to waive his no-trade clause. Checking Alonso's stats it looks like he is a good hitter and is also left handed. Cuban I believe?

Pierre made $8.5M last year? Vizquel around $1.5M? Castro around $1.25M or so? I think we can sign Buerhle using that money. Hear me KW? Sign him!

I know we shoot comments back and forth but somebody getting their house broke into just ain't funny. Feel sorry for KW and his family. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 06:01 PM) White Sox Give Up: Alex Rios White Sox Get: Adam Dunn White Sox Give Up: Adam Dunn White Sox Get: Alex Rios But seriously, what type of awesome package can we get for these guys. I am not sure what we can get for them, but I think we should be actively shopping them

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) http://www.throughthefencebaseball.com/why...quentin/13851/# BLOG SPECULATION: Quentin to the Padres? Anyone for us to target in San Diego? IDLE blog speculation -
Thornton is desirable to any team making a run at a pennant. You don't have to be a closer to be very very valuable. The set up man role is critical and Thornton can do it. Really at $6M he is affordable.

Trade Dunn and Rios

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 11:28 PM) Montero not hanging on at C, blanked on his name. I find that interesting based on all the hype the Yanks had on that guy

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) He was still a top 100 in MLB prospect coming into the last 2 seasons based on BA's rankings Need more from the Yankees I think to make this work as a good Sox deal. Plus I think you answered my question to the other post I made. Thanks!
-
There doesn't appear to be any great upside for the Sox. We trade a quality left handed relief pitcher - rated one of the best mind you - for a AA catching prospect? Maybe with another real good Yankee prospect we would be doing good, but it seems all we are doing here is dumping salary. That is something KW said we wouldn't be doing. He wanted impact major league ready players. He has an infatuation with the Yankees for some reason and has been fleeced before.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/11/elev..._medium=twitter I seem to remember a time when some folks on this board didn't think Buerhle was worth anything. Let's hope the Sox and KW are serious about wanting him back. I wouldn't be playing cutesy about it either. I think sometimes the Sox front office have shot themselves in the foot. -
Sox add Heath and Leesman to 40 man roster

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 05:22 PM) Good call. We just added 4 lefties to the 40 man roster this week. Or the Sox realize lefties are hard to come by? I do like Matt, but would not be surprised if he is traded. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 05:15 PM) I'm iffy on this one. He does seem like he's got a decent shot at the big leagues, but I'd have to ask my scouts whether they thought he'd be too much of a drag on the roster having to keep him around the entire year next year. I think D2 is an excellent candidate to pick in the rule 5, because even if he doesn't hit well, he's supposedly a plus-defensive CF, which means that he can fill an almost daily role for someone coming in as a defensive replacement. He gives value to a team even if he doesn't hit. I agree with you Balta, but don't forget we have a surplus in the OF including a large million dollar albatross non performer in CF we are keeping. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 17, 2011 -> 05:53 PM) No one is going to trade for Dunn, Rios, and Peavy right now. That's why we will be underachievers again, but retooling - again. You don't know if someone will take them until you try
-
I read the Tribune story where it said that KW was trying to retool an underachieving team. OK, I'll buy into that, but then all the trade talk involves trading the achievers and keeping the underachievers. I am sorry but now I am lost.
-
I love the Lilliman. Wish we had 24 more just like him on the team
-
Packaging our better players all into one trade doesn't make any sense to me. Sparks some comments for sure, but why put all your eggs in one basket?

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 08:13 PM) The Sox just want to push Beckham. Last year he was an offensive machine compared to what Escobar would be like. He has no stick. I think this is correct. Escobar is looked at as an "option at 2B". What I read is a message being sent to Gordon to really work hard on things this off season and in ST to get that bat going. Beckham is an outstanding defender already. I think Escobar takes the place of Vizquel and is worked into a super sub role with Lillibridge.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 11:06 PM) And there's a chance we won't even get draft pick compensation when he departs in a year. The way they have twisted the Elias rankings so that we won't get something for Mark B really baffles me. I am betting CQ and others on this team will all be rated the same
