Maybe the three days off will help him get reinvigorated for the stretch run
-
It will be an interesting off season me thinks

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 09:58 PM) Sweeping the Twins or taking 2/3 is something they will never do. Yes, but it is in Minny and not in their own ball park. Seems to make a difference

Ozzie throws Lillibridge under the bus, spares Rios

Don't you have Jerry's address?

I am in it till we are out of it

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) Kenny promoted De Aza and Ozzie keeps trotting Rios out there even though he's gone out of his way to play like he doesn't want to be here. I am all in favor of good roster moves and De Aza is worth a shot, but Alejandro has one hit mind you since his recall. Of course it was a 2 run game winning homer, but still it is the only hit he has gotten

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) Fan revolt is just don't go. If the product gets bad enough, like KC and Cleveland (before this year) believe me it'll show up in attendance figures. Cleveland used to sell out every single game for years until the Tribe became horses*** and the fans knew the team was horses***. Then it stopped. KC fans know better than to buy season tickets as well. If the Sox get off to this same start next year, forget it. Nobody will go. That is a sign of "fan revolt" for sure.

National coverage tonight. Gavin Floyd going for the Sox. Time for the Sox to make us proud
-
Fan revolt here maybe. Maybe we are getting tired of payying $70 plus dollars for a good seat at the ball park to watch poor performers making more for one game than a fan would ever dream of making in their entire year or life for that matter; Tired of paying four or more times the cost of a whole package of hot dogs and only get one tired dog; tired of paying $9 plus dollars for a luke warm beer; tired of paying $20 for parking at the game, etc etc and not seeing a winner.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) I think the MLBPA would have something to say about that. Not saying you are wrong, though. I am sure they would too And that's not saying anything bad about unions, but maybe a different contract approach is something teams should consider.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) Ozzie doesn't believe in scouting and doesn't believe in stats. So what exactly does he believe in? I hope winning ball games

I have seen lots of instances where a player - in any sport mind you but let's talk baseball - wants to tear up a contract and ask for more money after they have a good season, but don't like their "low" salary. How many have offered to tear up a contract when they are making a ton of money, but don't produce, and then offer to give money back? I don't want to attack anyone here but we always hear of the $12 plus million dollars being earned by Rios and Dunn and how ashamed they are they aren't producing, but they still get paid the money owing on that contract. Maybe team ownership should sue for breach of contract when a player doesn't perform? Get some of that money back. I think it's an interesting approach and obviously would have to have some language written into a contract, but this has been a gargantuan waste of financial resources with the Sox paying non perormance and a high rate. Other teams have experienced this too we all know. Again I am not singling anyone out for criticism I just think it would be good business sense. The team pays for production period not sucking.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 03:18 AM) Has this response been vetted? I know what you are getting at - I believe so anyway - but regardless you don't degrade a players wife and/or family when criticizing the player and his performance. Sometimes the attacks on a player get pretty rude and personal and that is uncalled for. So I guess it doesn't matter if this has been vetted or not some of the comments by the poster that resulted in this post were inappropriate.

Ozzie throws Lillibridge under the bus, spares Rios
elrockinMT replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like Lillibridge a lot, but he is a sub and role player. Rios has more potential, but lost it somewhere after signing a mucho million dollar contract in Toronto, which is now our albatross. At this point though I would keep Lilli over Rios. But, Ozzie did throw Lillibridge under the bus for sure IMO -

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 08:06 PM) My kids do this kind of stuff. I tell them no more candy, and then I see them sneak into the kitchen and get some candy after I told them NO! Why the hell is Rios in the lineup? Cause Konerko is hurt, which is the same reason Dunn is in there. Konerko is worth both those guys right now for what they produce. I guess Ozzie might be mad at Lilli for not putting down a bunt on a 96 MPH upstairs fastball from that there CC fellow -
Sox vs Damned Yankees 8-2 game thread

May we win one please? I guess I am speaking to the offense, or what there is of it -
Dunn - cause we are all in it
-
I am going to go out on a limb here and go against popular sentiment. I am looking forward to seeing Viciedo up at some point, but I doubt he is our super hero in waiitng. He may produce and help us win, but I think it's unfair and unrealistic to put the burden of winning it all on this fellow's shoulders. We may be expecting too much and will be greatly disappointed.

Ozzie throws Lillibridge under the bus, spares Rios
elrockinMT replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Every player will have a bad play, a bad at bat just a bad day period, but Lillibridge has contributed with sac bunts, good fielding plays and clutch hits on more than one occassion plus he has moved around to maybe 6 different positions this season. I am trying to remember when Rios has delivered? Maybe he has, but he has sucked so bad and for so long this year it's hard to remember anything positive. -
Dunn is a very economical hitter- out hitter that is

I thought Morel did the right thing going to opposite field. Was it just terrible or what?

Lili with a hit but no score yet
