QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 06:54 PM) Dominant middle/long relief is as much of a waste of resources as you can get. If you've got a dominant reliever, he ought to be your closer. If you have 2, one is your closer and one is your setup man...or you do the other smart thing and realize that having 2 closers is reducing the value of 1 of them, and trade that closer for an everyday player or a starter. I think that is the old school of thinking. But, Sale is closer or set up reliever material and does good. I won't say the team might not try him as a starter, but if not I think he fills a tremendous need right where he is at

Let's win some games and move ahead of .500

This will hurt the Sox unless Tyler Flowers can step up and deliver. I can't believe folks saying this is a blessing in disguise or it won't hurt to lose AJP. Apprently they don't follow the Sox. I doubt if there is anything to trade for out there. Olivo from Seattle? Not suggesting it at all and hopefully Flowers and Lucy can perform

A KW and Ozzie mistake and I said it when the Sox went withe no real DH and had let Thome walk. Wish they would have kept him on the team.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 05:00 AM) And asshole would be the right word for that person. Condolences. He seems like a good guy; he just can't hit a baseball any more. My condolences to the Dunn family. But, Greg my guessis he can still hit the baseball and most likely next year he will be back with a vengance

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 08:12 PM) Short of a World Series title I'm with you on this one. Hell even if they DID win the WS we know what the chances of a repeat are so let's finally clean house. Like 2005

QUOTE (forrestg @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 06:55 AM) he's following big Hurt's style lots of power good avg and lots of walks. Well, that would be great if he was actually doing it

I think Sale should stay as a lefty releiver. He can be dominant for 2 or even three inings. Hard to say what he might be like as a starter after the 5thj or 6th inning

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 04:44 PM) Look, I'm just passing on what I was told. That it's the only thing my guy heard I thought was interesting. Doesn't mean it's a definite to happen though. I hear you. Those things are what makes this all so interesting and certainly sparks a lot of discussion.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) I believe this to be true. Maybe a modified re-build, swapping Quentin for Viciedo, dealing Danks or Floyd and resigning Buehrle would still be enough to lure LaRussa given the relationship he has with Chairman Reinsdorf. A couple thoughts on this: Is Jerry's relationship and loyalty to Ozzie and KW stronger than his relationship with Larussa? Tony was canned by the Hawk a lot of years ago. Is this team in need of pitching stability and needs to sign Buerhle &-Danks and keep Floyd more than trade one or both? I think it makes more sense that the negotiate with Peavy to reduce the size of that 2013 contract, or whenever that $22M a year contract comes up. If he wants to stay and they want to keep him that could solve some financial issues right there. The one huge point that I haven't heard answeed is: does Larussa have an interest in coming to the Sox and/oir continue managing period?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) Here's my issue. If the results aren't there, then maybe I have to question that line of thinking. Maybe there's more to the "Rotating DH" concept than we gave credit to (in that case, the problem is who we chose to put there, a NL pinch hitter, rather than the concept itself). I think the rotaing DH was not a bad idea as it gave you an option for rotating and resting the other position players. But, Kotsay et al kind of nessed that up and the idea of the big bopper in Dunn led the team to abandon that idea for a full-time DH like Thomas and Thome. However, the move back fired for whatever reason as they tried a NL player at the position and he was used to playing the field. Now maybe in 2012 he will be better? I think change wise if anything hapens it's becasue Ozzie and KW decide to move on and not Jerry making them.

To let him catch on with someone else I guess

Someone took it on the Chen tonite for sure

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 10:38 PM) If he goes oh-for-April and May next year again I sure hope he retires. He will work out over the winte and hit 45 homers in 2012

QUOTE (Real @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 06:49 PM) I'd rather have Vizquel at 2B over Beckham, Gordon is clueless with a baseball bat. B ut he plays great defense and great defense saves runs

It is nice to win and let Chen take it on the chin men!

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 01:16 AM) I hate it when I'm right about bad stuff. Try not to give up more runs, Mark. But, that was what we talked about- anything can happen with this team and seems to. 6-3 early so that early lead was cut in half quick

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 12:02 AM) http://suntimes.sportsdirectinc.com/baseba...core316287.html Use that if you like. Not bad thanks
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 12:04 AM) You'd like to think so, but I don't put anything past this team. That's just it how many times have we lost our best hitter late in the game for a pinch runner only to see the pitching staff blow it and go extra w/out the main man?
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 11:56 PM) do you take PK out now? I think it is way to early to take him out. Plus he is DHing not playing in the field
-
Heh folks where is the Juan Pierre love? 3 for 3 batting .282. Maybe crazy Ozzie was right to stick with the guy?

Checking Gameday for the first time today and liking it! 6-0. can't wait for BBTN highlights
