  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) I was surprised it wasn't posted already. As far as batting Rios 4th, you have more outs in that lineup than him and maybe it's best you don't bat them - Rios, Morel, Beckham - back-to-back-to back. Think of it this way. Get six guys who are hitting stacked up there instead of breaking the performers up with almost instant outs. Leave a lot more runners on base inserting non-performers in between the folks getting on base
  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 10:51 PM) I know I'm not the most popular poster on this site so I'd like to make a peace offering tonight. I'll be by the Churros stand tonight (section 154-55?) for the bottom of the 2nd and the first person that says "hey, Marty", I'll buy them a beer. I'll be in a gray shirt, green Sox hat. No fair. You need to come to Dehler Park in Billings and then I can take advantage. And a real good beer here is only $3.50 a cup
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) He has? .222/.556 over the last 7 days. That has been an improvement But, really he has been hitting the ball and sometimes hard
  4. If you finish a game or two out after you make a late run at it I think it would be easy to satrt cherry picking and second guessing everything trhat we didn't think was done right. We dug ahole early by going 11-22. That was it IMO
  5. Sad and unexplainable complete failure this year. Interesting to see how things develop over the off season and how this team looks and performs in 2012
  6. My guess for next year is AJP and Tyler Flowers hadling the catching. I think Flowers needs some more coaching nd from what I have seen AJ is helping him a lot. Team players make good things happen and Flowers bloom.
  7. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 06:54 PM) Cool! He was awesome. Another "nugget". We were sitting behind the Sox dugout and got a kick out of Ozzie several times chucking peanuts at the Moose (Mariners' mascot). Got to say it again BigEd I am happy for you to be able to see that 3 game sweep. Lucky you. I did see all of it on TV though
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 04:15 PM) He has had that plate discipline all year long in Charlotte where he was putting up ridiculous numbers. We could have used his bat and patience at the plate at any point time during our 5 month stretch of terrible offense. And where would he have played? I for one am glad Ozzie stuck with Pierre in LF. Now maybe in hindsight, which is always perfect, we should have passed on Adam Dunn and went with DV in the role of DH anmd part time RF-LF-3B and 1B?
  9. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) Great game. Flowers is impressive so far. I certainly hope he continues to play like he has. After next season, he will most likely be the starting catcher for the Sox. As soon as I saw Viciedo hit that HR I started laughing. His game today made the organization look foolish. In my mind there is no excuse for not bringing him up earlier. If he's not starting today, any respect I had for Ozzie will be gone. I like Flowers with the bat. He is better than we have seen in the past, but he needs work on blocking balls in the dirt. My guess is he and AJ are the catching duo next year and AJ seems to have taken Tyler under his wing
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 12:45 AM) I don't think he'll get enough at bats to do that. We still have Oz being stubborn in his final 4 weeks as mayor of the South Side. Oz isn't going to play him regularly IMO. Dunn n Rios baby. He wants to prove a point that no manager could win with those 2 albatrosses. Greg I can't agree with your posts on this. I think Ozzie and KW were right as hard as the decision was and all the griping we all did. The kid needed to learn how to hit major league pitching. Before he hacked at everything. I think the most important and encouraging thing we saw ysterday was him taking pitches and getting a walk. The homer was fantastic of course, but his patience at the plate is what impressed me the most. Phil Rogers article today in the Tribine summed it up really well. We are still in this thing until we aren't. It should be fun seeing Viciedo the rest of the way and next year will be better. I think Adam Dunn will be sitting quite a bit and he understands that
  11. QUOTE (OilCan @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 01:47 AM) JimMargalus Jim Margalus That's just insulting. MT @ChuckGarfien: Ozzie's sarcastic reaction to Viciedo? "Yay, we're in the pennant race!" twitpic.com/6bqa4u Go away ozzie. I am not sure that Ozzie remark was appropriate, but I just think it was directed at the extreme hype that was being put out there. Viciedo is a good young talent, but I think Ozzie was trying to protect him from the extreme expectations that he is our Babe Ruth. Look what hapened to Beckham. Ozzie may have been just craching wise and that's Ozzie. If DV plays Sunday it will be fun. Game on WGN
  12. Had to watch it last night on the Mariner's channel, but at least I saw the win. Danks was outstanding! Sunday though is WGN
  13. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) Well, this will be my last Sox game this year. I guess I'm pretty fortunate really that the only games I get to go to are when they play in Seattle. I've seen all the games this year and one (win) last year, 5-1 overall. Let's make it 6-1 Gavin! I'm stoked to get to see the Tank play today. Again good for you. I will most likely make a trip out there for a Sox series in 2012. My real goal is to make it to Chicago though. I wil setle for WGN today. I didn't think any game of this series would be on WGN, but glad it is.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 09:25 PM) No, the reports are he conditions himself fine, just not through swinging a bat. Maybe we can get him some for the winter
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 05:20 PM) Only if you want to be an "I told you so" type of person, and brag to everyone you knew he would be a bust. Of course if he isn't you could always fall back on the I'm glad I was wrong, Go Sox line. He's obviously been a dissapointment, but he's still real young and we know he has it in him to be a really productive player. Whether it will come out is the question. I personally think it will, but the longer he goes without being really good for decent stretches, the longer the odds become. I believe what you are saying is true. And I think Gordon Beckham will work on it. The team and fans have to excersise patience. Rome wasn't built in a day.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) Basically, it's hope. And a realistic aknowledgement that if Dunn isn't back to close to the usual Dunn next year, we're not going to be fielding a winning team. I agree and that's because that's all we have right now. If he can't come back in 2012 then this is just one huge colossal explosion. Can it be that he just doesn't have it anymore? Do you lose it that fast? If the reports are true that he dpesn't physically condition himself in the off season and doesn't pick up a bat till spring training then that just has to change. Dunn is the only one who can change that.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 10:10 PM) I was thinking more like Ken Griffey Jr. who would have a fluke injury every year. Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah are a couple of Bulls that are hurt freakishly almost every season. I personally would keep Quentin unless someone was willing to give up a lot. And that makes sense to me too
  18. QUOTE (SoIL @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) Good God, the overreaction and ignorance of this board is just stunning. OK haters, have at it. I have to say that it doesn't seem to pay to support Sox players. Somebody gets banged up or fails to get a hit or the team doesn't win 163 games and some people on this board just blow up. Only one team is going to win it all and if it ain't the Sox then there is always next year. That's what makes baseball great and in my book what a fan should look at. Nobody wants to lose especially the players and I have to believe they try as hard as they can. Give it you all is all that can be asked. If trades are coming then it will be in the off season or spring training. But, I still think it's absurd to look at trading away your best players with some idea in mind you are going to get Babe Ruth. You win or lose as a team.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 08:27 PM) That is true. They may be fluke injuries, but there are a few guys that seem to get them on a regular basis. Yeah that Paul Konerko for one
  20. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 06:28 PM) Lilli really crushed that one. We were sitting out by the Sox bullpen and had a nice viewpoint of the ball sailing well over the wall. It was especially nice for him hitting what turned out to be the game winner in Safeco since he loves playing here having grown up in the area. My daughter got Will Ohman's autograph, her first White Sox autograph. She was excited about that. My first Sox autograph was either Tommy McCraw or Ron Hansen....can't remember which one. Tonight we get Larry Bernandez Bobbleheads. Woot. Good for you guys! Glad to hear that kind of stuff.
