  1. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 06:31 PM) Hey Jake...Shut Up already! But his boys love it. He loves the smell of napalm in the morning
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 06:40 AM) Maybe Heyward and Beachy for Quentin, Thornton, Dunn, and Rios. We'll throw in Peavy to make it far. Why not trade all our playhers for a mid level prospect?
  3. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 07:03 AM) I'm surprised Peavy wasn't on the waiver wire. Me too. Surprised Dunn wasn't too. All you are doing at the waiver wire is kind of judging interest in your players not necessarily really looking to drop them
  4. Last night ESPN2 folks at the game were talking the waiver claim and said that a "source" denied the Sox claimed Thome and insisted it was Cleveland
  5. If they are interested in waiver type trades then maybe they should float Peavy out there. Floyd, Danks, Buerhle, et al can still produce for the Sox in 2012 and beyond
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) 1) Do 10-and-5 rights apply to waiver claims? If not, then the Sox can just dump him and the $2.5M he is owed on the Yankees, who are 100% certain to claim him. 2) Even if the 10-and-5 rights do apply, why would MB turn down a chance to win another World Series, knowing that the likelihood of re-signing with the Sox really doesn't change any because he's on another team for 2 months? Are we discussing Mark Buerhle? Cause I am not following folks logic calling for him to be released on waivers, etc
  7. I'll be behind the big screen and hopefully we win it
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) We will go undefeated the rest of the way with Thome. At least we will have a real DH. Konerko back to first hopefully
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 24, 2011 -> 05:08 AM) Does he have a no trade clause? It would be nice to let him go pitch for a playoff team if he wants to do so. He should have been pitching for a World Series contender this year. The Chisox! If we don't get it this year there is next year and you need pitchers like Mark Buerhle to lead your pitching staff. This idea of tearing the whole team apart isn't anything more than emotions. I don't blame folks for being frustarted and all but think long term
  10. Me gustó mucho José Valentíns is all I can think of right now in Espanol, but Jose was one of my favorite players on the team back then
  11. History is so yesterday. The future is tomorrow. Be optimistic and if we fail there is 2012 to look forward to
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 05:42 PM) Horrifically false. There is a TON less risk keeping him until the offseason, for his role and also for his teammates roles. We could do a lot worse than keeping Matt for 2012 too
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 06:13 PM) I would bet a lot of teams would take him as is. Heck the Tigers would give their collective left testicle to have him a set up man. I would agree here. If the Sox are that crazy to consider putting Thornton on the waiver wire and ghet rid of him there will be a lot of teams ready to take advantage
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) I don't think any of us really know the financial well-being of the organization right now. If they desperately need to make sure they clear his salary for next year, and they can come to an agreement with a team like the Yankees that they'd get a mid-tier prospect for Thornton right now, KW might jump at it. If this organizaton didn't know their own financial situation when they signed or traded for players than we really are in trouble. The trade low argument just isn't cutting it for me. Trade Matt Thornton, who arguably is one of the better left handed relief set up pitchers for a mid-level prospect? This game is about winning not shedding salary because someone has a shaky season. Matt has a great history and odds are he will be doing good in 2012. I uderstand the idea of trading surplus talent in the off season, but not at the waiver dump wire or low in the off season. Who steps in and fills that role? I would rather see a trade of WSill Ohman than Thornton. Don't satrt naming a rookie who picthed a game or two either as we have seen what happens there as soon as the season goes along a bit. They seem to come back to earth real fast and hard. Money is important certainly but this rationale of getting rid of everyone making over minimum wage is going to leave the Sox struggling at the bottom for a long time IMO. We have some underperformers getting paid big dollars, but I don't see Thornton or his contract as the one pulling us down. I double that when we talk about Quentin.
  15. If you are all in then you are in the hunt for Thome. I would not be averse to that move and would welcome it. As far as the earlier post on Ozzie and KW looking like double idiots. Well, if it's the truth then wear that badge Ozzie adn KW. That move of the rotating DH using who we had was ridiculous.
  16. Putting Matt Thornton on waivers makes no sense at all. Sorry.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 08:19 PM) "We've been waiting for that Tyler Flowers the last three years," said White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen of his interim everyday catcher, acquired from the Braves in December 2008. "The hitting coach in Triple-A did a great job with him, putting him in the spot where we can count on him again." Tim Laker, Charlotte's hitting coach spoken of by Guillen, also received credit from White Sox hitting coach Greg Walker and Flowers himself for this 2011 development. It certainly was not a process that happened over night. PROMOTE LAKER!!! Next projects...Beckham, Dunn, Morel and Rios Maybe, but having good minor league coaches is very important. The things we have seen with Flowers are very impressive and hope they keep up
  18. Danks is a proven commodity. Prospects are iffy. Look at what we gace up to others. You build around pitching and danks is a very good one
  19. Winning is always better than losing. It seems that everyone is happier for the most part
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) That is how you rebuild sometimes. I would respectfully have to disagree with Marty, and you if this is your stance, that this would be the answer for the Sox
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 08:50 PM) There really is so much that can still go positive for the Sox this year, even if they can't catch the Tigers. Seeing De Aza and Flowers fight for at bats, while hoping Rios can start to turn it around are three of the things I'll be watching the closest. It would also be great to see Stewart string together some positive starts the rest of the way.
  22. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) Great news, but why do we want to wait 11 more days? Apparently so as not to embarass Adam Dunn
