  1. That was my first year of loving baseball and playing little league. The Sox were my team and Nellie Fox my hero. The MLB channel showed the highlights of the '59 series. Now that Sox team could go from 1st to thrd on a single and sometimes score too
  2. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 18, 2009 -> 08:29 PM) Getz is batting .238 and his K/BB ratio is 2:1. He is young and it is early but I am not seeing the approach tht he was suppossed to have. He satrted out the first few games of the season doing pretty well. Everybody was excited and then he tanks. That is why you don't make rash decisions
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 09:39 PM) If you get anyone to take Konerko's contract off our hands, you get rid of him. He's playing well this year, but in this market, he's severely overpaid. I like your idea of promoting Poreda, and a good spot could be as a lefty set-up man in case Jenks is traded (and Thornton moves to the closing spot). I wonder if a team like the Dodgers could be interested in Dotel or Linebrink, as their set-up men stink. The Mets might be in the market for an expereinced !Bman even though they have a AAA ballplayer they are all hyped up about. It might very well be appropriate to satrt thinking of just going with rookies from our farm clubs, but more than 50% me is still thinking we can turn this around. We need healthy ballplayers. I am still baffled why (other than Booras was the agent) the Sox didn't keep Crede even with cocnerns about his back, but we took on Colo and kept Contreras and Fields was coming off knee surgery. I think it was just the Sox management/ownership going cheap on us
  4. All I can say is that you knew what was going to happen when Dotel walked the lead off batter
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) Hell of a start by Clayton. Good job, easily the bright spot of this forgettable series. Wish we had an offense that might reward a pretty good performance.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:51 PM) Couldn't disagree more when facing a RHP. Hell, Betemit's one of our 5 best hitters against RHP, it's just he'll never get a chance. Doubles hitters are bad, I know. I will say anyone is better than Fields or Ramirez in the clutch right now
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:48 PM) Well, Ozzie's officially not trying to win games anymore. There's no excuse in the world to not bring Betemit in to hit for Fields. It's amazing how well he's handled our pitchers this year, and how comically bad he's been with offensive strategy. He's going with his grumbling gut remember?!
  8. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 18, 2009 -> 05:43 PM) Boo Nix. And there is our problem time afte time. We get a batter in scoring position and here all we needed was contact to allow that runner from 3rd to score and all we get is a K
  9. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 18, 2009 -> 06:27 PM) Richmond has a 92 MPH fast ball and 86 MPH change up? I am not watching the game but that doesn't lend itself to much success....after today that is. Your are right to clarify "after to today". Sox hitters are mesmerized up there by this phenom
  10. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 18, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) Wow Richard able to get out of that inning unharmed Maybe this will be the turnaround point then? And not the ranaground
  11. I think Cooper's analysis is right on and in a nutshell it is getting ahead and challenging the hitters. When you see a pitcher getting that first strike on a consistent basis you know they have it going and are in control
  12. QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ May 17, 2009 -> 09:09 PM) 1 for 3 is an Awesome game for Lillibridge today Has he hit anything but singles? We need BA up here now.
  13. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 17, 2009 -> 07:35 PM) Agreed. It should be easy to get him playing time with how all of Fields, Getz, and Ramirez are playing. I would like to see Nix starting at 3B or SS. Bench Fields and/or Ramirez
  14. 2 for 17 with runners in scoring position. How fitting to end the game with a GIDP
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) He's also making more money than he's worth. Screw the leadership stuff....that should start with Ozzie. Part of the problem might be that the veterans aren't exactly vocal leaders. Players have to show leadership also and that's just as important if not more so than the manager. One of the worse mamangers I saw though was Bevington.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) The first player I'd trade is Dye, as he would probably get you more than Konerko. With Konerko, we'd have to pay some of his salary. For sure an argument can be made either way for both those guys. I would hate to lose either JD or PK. The players with the production problem are the ones to blame. Ramirez is horrible, Fields suck, Lillibridge should be at AA, Contreras et al in the pitching corp, Betemit hasn't show me a thing
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) Nix has done nothing but have solid ABs all year. Ozzie keeps saying that's what he wants to see at the plate, but then he doesn't start Nix for a few games and keeps playing others who are having terrible ABs. He either doesn't have much to work with or is just stubborn. Which one? Actually it could be both I guess
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) Yes, we can afford to lose a guy like Konerko. You trade players you can actually get some value for. I can't agree my friend. I know what you are saying, but I think there are other moves that can be made without losing our best
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2009 -> 08:24 PM) I'm sure KW and JR love the camera man focusing on Sox fans leaving a game in the 8th inning. But, it is in Toronto and a long drive back home
  20. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 17, 2009 -> 08:19 PM) i don't think any of this has much to do with coaches. Any firings would be raw meat thrown to the angry masses. Like Konerko said, people need to look in the mirror. Trade the player who doesn't make excuses. We can't afford to lose a guy like Konerko. We have talent and PK is right-those guys need to look at themselves and do what needs to be done to correct it
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 17, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) Paulie really fixed what was ailing him. If KW trades him soon, I hope he robs some team. We need help and Paulie looks like he's got it figured out this year. I understand the Paulie, Dye and Jenks have value that other teams might want, but here we are talking of trading our players who produce and keeping the ones that suck. I guess if we just want to suck ok trade our best away and hope for the best return possible, but I haven't seen it or believe we will
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxmanager @ May 17, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) is there any doubt that the toronto blue jays are the best team in baseball? and led of course by a nasty ass young pitching staff. with pesky outs? i hate to say it but this team is for real. They are pretty darn good that's for sure
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 17, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) I'm leary of football players playing baseball. Most don't turn into the players they were advertised. And to think I made the guy my PTC for today. Can it get worse?
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) Could you imagine how low his batting average would be if he didn't have all the bloopers in the first few weeks? He has only a handful of hard hit balls all season. Maybe the skinny kids got used to the good soft life of America?
  25. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 17, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) Fields strikeouts pace for the year is well over 200! He might be trying to set a record. He figures he can't set a productioin record so let it be non-production
