  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 9, 2009 -> 04:19 AM) I was sitting behind the White Sox dugout tonight, and I know Contreras was bad and has been bad, but some of the classless people around there are way out of line with what they are yelling at him. The guy is perhaps the biggest reason there is a trophy at that park. He also is a guy that wasn't supposed to pitch until August, if ever again. Remove him from the rotation, but the Count will rise again, and all these "fans" will be singing another tune. I understand the whole, "I bought a ticket, I have a right to be an asshole" talk, the funny thing is most of the people who pop off didn't buy their own ticket, but saying disgusting things like what was being thrown at Jose shouldn't be said to anybody higher than Drew Peterson. Good post. I completely agree. Real Sox fans have class and support their team and the individual players. I think that some of those characters would even had booed the Big Hurt
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2009 -> 03:38 AM) Alexei needs to start hitting again and quick. People are starting to beat down the door behind him. I think that is the issue-his hitting-not the position he is playing. He can go to CF and still not hit so what's the magic bullet here? He is doing fine defensively at SS from what I can see he just isn't hitting I should have added though that he has shown at times he can adjust but for some reason falls back
  3. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ May 9, 2009 -> 03:43 AM) At what point do pull the plug on this team and start a youth movement. June 1st? July 1st? Please don't wait until 2010. It's to early to panic. Plus as soon as this type of thing gets posted we start to hear about trading our stars who may actually still be performing very well. Tirfed old stuff. Calm down is my sugestion.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 9, 2009 -> 04:07 AM) Put Scott Podsednik in the leadoff position tomorrow. Put him 1st, AJP 2nd, and move Fields to the 7th/8th spot in the lineup with Getz batting 9th. If this team doesn't get it going soon, we might get too far out of first place and then everyone will call for the team to be broken up. It is early yet. However, being shut out 5 times already is pretty sad. AJP might bristle and say it's not the offesnes fault and he could be right. It is the whole teams fault. I have watched a number of games on the tube this season and have seen a lot of bad ball being played by the hitters, the defense and the pitchers. Too often it's always in the same game. I believe we have good players the question is how to get them hitting/performing on all cylinders? That comes down to each individual addressing what he is or isn't doing and then doing something to correct his mistakes. That sounds pretty simple and I know it isn't at the major league level, but something good put these guys at that level and they need to figure it out again. Line up changes might help, but the guys you move around have to be performing. We won behind Buerhle but remember that was 5 runs in the 1st inning followed by one run in 17. Unacceptable
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 8, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) I'd rather give someone like Brandon Allen a shot at the big league club than bring back Jimmy. In a year or two is my bet
  6. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 8, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) Is this like a forum auto-gen post? Every single mention of Thome and this is guaranteed to be mentioned at least 47 times. That is an excellent point and I am glad you brought it up. We have some strange opinions sometimes about our veteran players. Next one is Konerko
  7. Jim Thome should be back next year and it can be more than $1M and probably will be if we re-sign him. He is a team leader and still contributes.
  8. Mark is the staff ace for sure and he showed it last night
  9. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ May 8, 2009 -> 03:47 AM) Oh I understand Greinke is a leader by far, I'm just saying is there a possibility Mark can do it this year I for one think you are right, but it is early and their are others doing really good. Mark stepped up on Thursday night and showed he is the ace of our staff and if he continues pitching well he would be considered for the award I am sure.
  10. I've got 5 Detroit innings completed and they have no hits. Mark is stepping up and getting some offense. Nix with ahomer too. Great going
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) I'm fascinated by your use of the word "Tough". Fascinated is not the word I would use, but it did left me puzzled
  12. Alexei is tubeing and will be on the bench for awhile. Let's wait a week before suggesting this line up
  13. QUOTE (MO2005 @ May 6, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) Here are the Sox problems.. Alexei Ramirez - timing is wayyyyy off. Late on fastballs and early on breaking/curve balls. Hawk said it great last night that when this happens, usually it can last almost a whole season. If that's the case, we have problems. Brett Lillibridge - Just can't hit period or play defense. First of all this guy has no place in center field and his defense is horrific. It is almost like Ozzie and kenny are refusing to send him down because they don't want to feel like the Vasquez trade went for nothing. AJ - Cannot throw runners out, so everyone runs on us. Gavin Floyd - I said it before the season started. Had a career year last year and was going to be hard to duplicate. He is not in command up there on the mound right now. Mentally he is breaking down, losing confidence, and allowing the big hits. Jacobs 3 run homer last night. Josh Fields - Strike Out King Pods - Last Resort for now and using it. Jose Contreras - Shouldn't be starting or even playing. But how can you sit 10-15 million a year in salary? Bullpen - Relying on them too much right now to save games for us with our starting pitching/ inconsistent offense. We all remember what happened in the 2nd half last season when our bullpen was lights out in the beginning of the year, right? The problem is our bullpen is not even lights out right now. Is there anyone in this bullpen you feel 100% comfortable with to hold a lead? Situational Hitting - Still does not exist. I don't care what anyone says, but if you do not have a situational hitting ballclub, you will not win a championship. Yes we could still wina division title because our division is weak, but not a championship. I blame this entirely on Kenny Williams for STILL not getting the players that can do this well. Since the 2nd half of 2006 we have not been great at getting runners over and in. Hitting sac flies when we need them or like last night runners on third with less than 2 outs and failing to get them in. Plus Fields does a lot of diving for baseballs, but never seems to catch one when needed
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 6, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) It's really simple, even more simple than Brent Lillibridge's complete and utter ineptitude. Jayson Nix is out of options and Lillibridge still has two. That does make it simpler, but really Lillibridge is a reserve player and has been thrust into a starting role where he hasn't shined
  15. Mark Buerhle steps up and shows us why he is the team ace. The ace stops a losing streak. He also goes to 5-0. I am counting on it
  16. Lwet's sign that there Pedro Martinez. Contreras can pitch long relief and Broadway can go down or Richard maybe
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 6, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) It would be nice if I didn't have to see threads after every game where, for example, Paul Konerko goes 0-4 with 2 K's and a GIDP and a poster starts up a thread calling for him to be taken out back and shot. Your are right sir!
  18. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 6, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) I read the title of this thread as "Caulfield with his usual post game 'the world is ending' threads after loss like this" wierd Ozzie mouthed off. It happens just like doo doo. Reality of it is --- just who could be going down to the minors and what do we have to replace him? Probably nothing better than we have now
  19. QUOTE (whitesox32 @ May 6, 2009 -> 03:23 AM) Alright we've had this discussion a million times, but right now it really is not a discussion. I feel like I'm watching a minor league team right now. Can anyone honestly tell me Brent Lillibridge is better than Beckham? Move Alexei to center and put Becks at short. I think he can have the same impact Longoria did for the Rays last year. SUCK IT UP OZZIE AND BRING UP BECKHAM! You don't bring up Beckham to be a role player off the bench. Nix and Getz can handle the IF issues and hopefully Ramirez starts to hit and stays at SS. Gordon will get his chance just not now
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2009 -> 04:09 AM) So we're going to start a thread after every loss dedicated to a player? It's not Broadway's fault. Much like Lillibridge, he has no business being in the majors. Why change now? we always have done it this way
  21. Lilli is a hustler, but a few singles is all he can muster at the bat
  22. Pathetic display with a runner on 3rd and 1 out
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2009 -> 01:10 AM) Getz won't get a lot of playing time against LHP with an AB like that. That was a horrendous at bat. We have seen way too many of those from our hitters. All we needed was something to get the runner in and they always K
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2009 -> 01:09 AM) That was a goofy play. Don't get picked off Pods. STEAL maybe?
