Interesting if they release Owens, but I am not sold on the story yet

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) Cowley extrapolates a lot of crap that isn't there. What exactly did Cowley's twitter say? More importantly, what did Ozzie actually say? Ozzie was worried about Thome's heel injury and not sure he would be ready Friday

GAME THREAD: 4/29, 1:05pm start, vs SEA
elrockinMT replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2009 Season in Review
Play hard and win that's all we need to say and worry about. I'll be watching on WGN -
QUOTE (3E8 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 05:47 PM) Bring up Allen They might, but then again if it's only a 15 day thing I am not certain we will see a real prospect called up judging by past statements by Ozzie. They don't want to end up sending a guy back down. My guess is they bring up Nix or Pods.

Predict which player is gone first, and who replaces him
elrockinMT replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No fair to limit this to one player who might be gone soon. I think we may have several possibiliites if panic sets in -
Joe Cowley is now reporting that Ozzie is concerned about Thome's heel injury and that it might be more serious than first reported. Thome may be on DL if not better for the start of the Texas series on Friday

Guillen on Freddy Garcia's release by Mets

Maybe Freddie can pitch long relief for us? -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) It's been f***ed up for like a year. WHAT? The Sox must be cutting back on batteries or something.

Anemic White Sox offense in the last 8 games...
elrockinMT replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) Well, I guess the argument being made is Thome (or Griffey, etc.), aren't the same hitters, so they should try to adjust. Some want him to bunt and hitter grounders down the 3B for possible doubles, others think that is pretty much insane to suggest a radical change in approach (at age 38) when he's been a HOF player despite facing shifts (like Ortiz or Bonds) his entire career. The issue of Thome making adjustments is perplexing. He is paid to hit homers and drive in runs. I don't think quitting the home run approach is the answer, but one would think that to get on base more or drive in runs might mean taking the pitch to LF and might help his average and production. Maybe he should do that a bit more. There is no argument that Jim Thome can still hit the ball out of any park and can hit the homer to LF and left center. -
Anemic White Sox offense in the last 8 games...
elrockinMT replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Offense has been dissapointing, but no more than our middle relief. Inconsistency seems to be our issue right now IMO and I think patience is really the answer. I just don't see any real options out there for us but a wholesale change or scapegoat hunt is not the answer. Yet anyway. -
4/28/09 Mariners @ White Sox - Game 1, WGN

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 10:29 PM) Pods is hitting .281 after 32 at bats and he has one stolen base. .410 on base. He's getting into a groove then because he was much worse a bit earlier -
4/28/09 Mariners @ White Sox - Game 1, WGN

Monday and Tuesday on the Fox-RM network so I have to listen to the Mariner's announcers, but it's still a Sox game at home. See you behind the TV -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) That's an odd matchup for a sunday night game. There making up for the blunder with Yankees and Tigers on Wed and I am sure there might be TBS and FOX still in the mix
-
Nice to get some national coverage on Sunday night. This will be a good week for me as I get the three Seattle games including Wed afternoon on WGN and then the Rangers games Saturday on WGN and Sunday nights game on ESPN.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 02:51 AM) No, the company line was it was made to free up money for Viciedo (not exactly lighting it up right now). However, it's more likely KW just wanted to get rid of Swisher ASAP in the offseason. Hopefully he had a lot of offers and this was the best. That's about the only way to justify what seems like a pathetic haul for a guy who's hitting 4th for the Yankees. I remember that line from Sox management. Can we figure out why Swisher fell out of favor? Contract or not the guy was a hustler and a great clubhouse presence unless KW didn't like all the joking around. Maybe they just didn't think they had a spot for him? I was confused at the time of the trade and still am

I agree that Betemit is the 1B backup and can play 3B etc, but I am not certain he is a better option that Swisher was. I have to assume that trade was more for Marquez.

Brian Anderson is performingvery well offesnively and defensively. I do not understand why Ozzie even feels it is necessary to open his sprig jaw and say anything about Wise's chances when he returns, if he does. Wise will be out awhile and will most likely need some playing time in the minors. He can vie with Scottie Pods for playing time at Charlotte. I like Wise, but Brian Anderson is the one who deserves to play CF and Ozzie should be pumping the kid up and not paving the way for a return to CF by Wise.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) Getz hurting? May go on DL. I just saw a report on a possible broken finger concern -
From the Tribune report: Originally posted: April 26, 2009 White Sox's Chris Getz has fractured finger, DL possible By Dave van Dyck It was revealed before Sunday's White Sox game against the Blue Jays that second baseman Chris Getz has a fractured bone in the tip of his right middle finger and going on the disabled list is a possibility. "We're going to wait for him to see how he reacts," manager Ozzie Guillen said. Getz not only has trouble throwing but gripping a bat. The finger was broken during practice before Saturday's game, as Getz was practicing taking throws at second base. His place was taken Sunday for a second day by Brent Lillibridge. Getz listed himself as day-to-day, but Guillen wasn't so sure. If Getz goes to the DL, the most likely callup would be Jayson Nix, who is rehabbing from a spring injury at Class AAA Charlotte, where he was 2-for-5 through Saturday. Guillen said that last year's No. 1 draft choice, Gordon Beckham would not be called up, saying, "If you see Beckham in the big leagues, we're in trouble."

Does wise have a spot on the roster still?
elrockinMT replied to soxfan420's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 01:08 AM) Unless Owens does something, he'll probably be sent back down and Wise comes back. I think so too. Jerry just hasn't looked good with the bat and all he has is a single so far -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 01:12 AM) I think Nix will take Owens's spot, which is technically Wise's spot, so no. However, i doubt Ozzie will let Wise lose his spot to injury, so yes My bet is that Nix goes to rehab and if he does good with the bat and glove he replaces Lilli unless Lilli can satrt getting some hits. A ,050 BA is not going to cut it -

I watched the game via WGN. Sure was a nice homer from Alexei and some real good defense. Sure is fun when you win
