QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 05:44 AM) It still kills me to see him in a Cubs uniform, and I really don't know why we even traded Cotts away in the first place. Did we even really need to get Aardsma? I thought that trade was extremely lopsided when it occurred, but then again I might be a little biased since Cotts is a 2005 Post-Season Hero. Now that Aardsma is long gone, and who knows whatever became of that Carlos Vazquez dude that was thrown in the deal, the trade is clearly in favor of the Cubs. It sure would've been nice to have Cotts as the 2nd lefty in the bullpen along with Thornton. Then even throw in Richard as the 3rd lefty then our bullpen would've looked more complete with: Jenks, Linebrink, Thornton, Dotel, Cotts, Carasco, Richard. Kenny, this is one trade where I have to ask you... "What were you thinking?" That wasn't a good trade for the Sox. I liked Neal Cotyts, but I am not sure he has the consistency we need to be a winner. Thornton is for sure the best lefty releiver we have

QUOTE (Cowch @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:55 AM) Did you watch today's game? He made some slick plays at third. Hopefully there are some replays/highlights. I didn't get to see the game. I am out of town and I think if I did it right the game is on my DVR at home so maybe this weekend I'll watch it -

QUOTE (YASNY @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) Guillen won't play Dayan in RF because of a guy named Jermaine Dye. He won't get to play in LF because of Carlos Quentin. Cubano, you add a lot to this board but saying that it makes you mad because Ozzie won't give him a shot in RF really proves your obvious pro-Cuban player bias. I think you have correctly stated the situation right there. Dayan is not at JD's level now anyway so it seems it is more appropriate to suggest Dayan is battling Fields. As stated it is Josh's position to lose. Dayan can hit homers as we have seen but consistency at the plate doesn't mean a homer or nothing. I think he needs to make consistent contact witjh the bat to be seen as a threat this season. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Then he better start proving it soon, because I feel like he's been given a lot of chances already. The thing is people are mentioning 90 MPH fastballs from Broadway when we have plenty of proof that speed isn't the main ingredient for a winnner. Control and the ability to keep the ball down and pitch inside are always touted by coaches as the secret to success. But, yes they need to prove they can win up at the big league level. They also need to be given the chance.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 05:55 PM) Even if they had exactly the same stuff, you take the lefty over the righty any day. Richard has better stuff. Tell that to Tom Teriffic Seaver et al I know what you mean though. Lefties are is short supply and high demand nowadays. I just believe that Broadway still can do it as well as Richard.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 05:29 AM) No, Broadway is a control pitcher with no control and gives up lots of homers. Richard is a lefty, and is breathing. I give the advantage to Richard. Maybe we can trade him for a real prospect then? Personally I think they both might make it with this team eventually. They are young and still learning to pitch in the bigs. If they can learn to keep the ball down and pitch inside they have a future.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:47 PM) SO top performers: Lilly 3-5 Viciedo 1-3 with a walk, an HR and 2 RBIS BA 1-3 with a walk Danks 2-4 Allen all or nothing, 2k's 2 BB Cassel 1.2 IP 1 hit 3k's And most of the ex sox on the A's Lilly batting .357 on the spring Viciedo batting .364 On the other hand defense allowed four unearned runs: errors by Viciedo and Beckham. ST for sure, but hopefull this is just getting the rust off their gloves. We need good defense to win games -

QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) Lillibridge laid down a perfect bunt for a base-hit. And then brain-cramped his way into getting thrown out at first on a 7-3 double play. Another typical mistake & that's running yourself out of the inning -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) Well it is March 1. 92 k in 67 IP with a .208 BAA in 2008. Yeah, he's really bad. I thought he did just fine for the Sox except he had a tendency to give up the long ball. But, he filled the role he was supposed to fill and that ain't all bad

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) Well, duh, he'd have to sign the contract. If it got him a job of course he'd do it. My name is not Duh The whole scenario just doesn't make sense that's all

QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 06:57 PM) I can not watch Contreras pitch when he throw 200 pitches in 5 innings. I am new to this forum and last year he was out. That is why you have not read anything from me about it. You are entitled to your opinion Cubano just like everyone else so I have no problem with your posts. I would like to know from you what you might see as Dayan Viciedo's ceiling this year? Do you think he can make adjustments to major league pitching and stick with the Sox or have to go to AAA ball? I think Alexei started somewhat slowly last year, but he made adjustments. Is it possible Dayan can also? I for one thought Alexei Ramirez was a very exciting player and did very well for the club. Viva beisbol! Viva Los Blanco Calcetines! (is that the right word?) -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) Isnt a sign and trade impossible in baseball due to all the contract rules and such? That's what I thought plus wouldn't OC have to agree to all this? Maybe not though

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) I cant believe how much play Betemits SPRING TRAINING errors are getting around here. GMAB, it isnt as if it was a playoff game You must understand we Sox fans want wins in every game. Failing to get a victory, or making mental mistakes like errors, or even striking out means the end of the world.

QUOTE (tommy @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 12:13 AM) Agree, Betemit looked awful out there. From Cowley FWIW, "Betemit talked Ozzie Guillen into believing he can play shortstop ... Two errors already today, and it doesn't look like he can." Betemit did look horrible. But, Owens wasn't that bad. All we saw from Beckham was that homer and all it did was spark some life into the Sox offensively so let's not get carried away . Plus it's possible Beckham might be looked at long trm for another position like 2B or maybe 3B? -
Aftr watching the horrendous defensive play of Wilson Betemit in Sundays ST games versus the Dodgers maybe we should make an offer to Cabrera and keep him at short.
