QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) Why settle for a .230 hitter I just do not get it. Enough of the excuses for BA that he wasn't given a chance. There is a reason they either stopped playing him or are trying to let someone else play CF, He simply is not a Major League Center fielder. If he does win the CF job this year I truly hope he proves me wrong. You aren't settling for a .230 hitter. You are giving a player that has alot of talent and now some experience the chance to take the job over. I think BA is by far the best defender on the OF staff and the bat is showing some life now.
-
I think BA is our cf"er> even if the bat only produxes part of the time to start the season his defense will always be there to save runs
-
Wise and Anderson did it last year for us until "The Kid" showed up. Let's see what another years experience has done for them
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 11:03 PM) BA's swing right now is alot different that it was this time last year, that worries me. He'll come around.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 11:03 PM) They're just throwing him out there hoping he figures it out. No one is going to trade for him. Best case scenario is he kicks ass at Charlotte for the first 3 months of the season and the Sox are able to move him for garbage at the deadline and save themselves 2 months worth of salary and his buyout. At this point you're just hoping to dump his salary at mid season, that's what it's come to. Such a shame too. All you heare about his how great his "stuff" is and yet we don't see results

That homer by Brian A measn he is coming around. He will be there on opening day!

Mariners Reassign RHP Josh Fields to Min. Leag. Camp

QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 09:48 PM) Just to f*** with us. I laughed. Good one elrock although you kinda blew it when you had "in a panic at 3B" I know. Maybe I should have added the postsript "Crede brought back in trade with Twinkies" -
Do we think the Sox are showcasing McDougal for a trade or does he have what it takes to make this team out of ST and contribute?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 09:39 PM) If Brian Anderson can not get his swing together, he will not fit the "best talent to help the team win" criteria. He will help this team more if he goes down to AAA and gets his swing together. He won't be going down. BA has the best OF glove on the team so defense will keep him at the big league level while they wait for the bat to catch up this spring

Mariners Reassign RHP Josh Fields to Min. Leag. Camp

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) point of this thread was? To grin and laugh and have fun. I thought it was kind of odd that there were two Josh Fields out there at ST. Wouldn't be a kick if the Mariners pitcher Josh Fields faced our 3B Josh Fields? -
16 year old hitting 500 ft homers...
elrockinMT replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 03:53 PM) I am guessing the 570ft includes some downhill roll and bounces. Plus the rarified air of desert Las Vegas probably helped. My guess under normal circumstances and conditon it was really no more than 425,,, 450 tops!! -
Oh excuse me that was RHP Josh Fields of the Mariners not our Josh

I once saw George Costanza hit some homers on Seinfeld too and he used geometry -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) Pudge would be a great backup against LHP, however, I don't see where he fits because AJ isn't exactly going to handle a reduced load and Pudge isn't going to come here for the same number of ab's that Hall got. That is the main reason I don't ant to completely dismiss the idea of Pudge in Chicago. He would be a great RH back up. He might be able to do the DH thing when Jim Thome is out with a bad back or up against a tough lefty
-
Baseball Tonight is predicting the Sox may be interested in Ivan Rodriguez. That came up last night, but it was also mentioned he might be a fit with SF. However, Corky Miller was talked about being the back up to AJP so it's their usual being behind the times on their stories. But, anything is possible I guess.

Keith Law on Viciedo, Poreda and others
elrockinMT replied to bighurt4life's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What the heck. It's ST and Law, me, you or whoever, we are all experts and can give our 2 cents worth. But, maybe we should wait for the season to start. Hopefully Guillen and staff have done their analyzing by opening day and the players have practiced on whatever they needed to practice on -
What's Alexei's 'real' experience as a shortstop?
elrockinMT replied to scenario's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Cowch @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) I'd personally rather have him in the infield whether it's SS or 2B. I liked his occasional fancy plays. It's unfortunate our CF candidates suck for the most part in one way or another. That said, it probably would be best for the team with him in the outfield. This is Brian Anderson's break out year at CF -
What's Alexei's 'real' experience as a shortstop?
elrockinMT replied to scenario's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (YASNY @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 09:05 PM) Ozzie seems to think he can play shortstop. I think he might have some inkling of what it takes to be a ML shortstop. I would think so too. Alexei wanted to play SS when he came on board, but we had Cabrera so he went to 2B and did a fine job. If SS is his natural positon if you will then I have no problem with him wanting to be back there. Plus Ozzie Guillen, who was a gold glove caliber SS in his career, thinks Alexei can play there. I must have missed something about why this has become an issue now?! -
QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) Is Wise the leader right now? I would think they may give Brian Anderson a shot at the CF job again. He is by far the better defender on the 3 in camp fighting for the job now and I think he has the better upside. Wise can do the lefty scenario, but for sure as Ozzie is quoted as saying, "it's too early yet."

ST: 3/9 vs. Indians 3:05, Webcast/WSCR
elrockinMT replied to flavum's topic in 2009 Season in Review
I got on to that MLB and listening to the announcers go on about McDougal was interesting. They can't believe how patient the Sox have been with this guy and think i's wering thin now after 3 years on his up and downs-mostly downs I might add. -

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) Danks doesn't look good today at all facing right-handed guys, his location is all over the place I am very worried about Danks. Maybe they have caught up with him? Discuss -
QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 10:46 PM) Is James Gordon Beckham the new Sox 2B despite playing in the low minors only? Is Guillen considering starting him? Has he play 2B before? Now, it looks like the Sox wants to give the 2B position to Gordon. This is incredible. I learn something new with MLB every year. From the way he had performed this ST maybe just maybe he is or soon will be

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 02:09 AM) For all of those who want us to chase Rodriguez, let me ask this question... Why would he want to come to Chicago? He isn't going to get more than 50 games, and a very low salary here. Even if the money is bad else where, someone has to be offering more than a 30-50 games a season back up position. Besides the fact that when we throw out possible offers of $1M or "cheap", etc, maybe we need to ask Ivan Rodriguez just what he wants and would accept. I agree he is showing some good lumber in the WBC, but he would still be a platoon player in Chitown limited to probbaly 30 or so games starting. One of the guys we have in camp now can do that job and it would be cheaper for the Sox.

QUOTE (ozzfest @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 11:33 PM) I think it would be nice if him and AJ shared the plate. Although there's virtually no chance we bring him in, I think he'd be a good fit to back up AJ. I have to respectfully disagree. There has been lots of talk in the past about his poor game calling and I don't think he wants to be a platoon/backup for anyone just yet in his career. I do think he is a competitor though and gives it his all
