Kevin Costner buying Independent League team
elrockinMT replied to scenario's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) They should call them the Zion Lions. Or Tatonkas -
Amazing how far the mighty have fallen. Safe to say he was a complete bust for the Dodgers and I think it was wise (no pun intended) for the Chisox to avoid Andruw. I just don't see him bouncing back.

Braves interested in Swisher... but not his contract.
elrockinMT replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) Remember when Swisher's contract was seen as a positive? Amazing turn of events for sure -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) You are hilarious in your fanboyism. I believe in loyalty is all and I don't waste my energy on bashing Sox players present-past or soon to be past

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 07:52 PM) As much as some despise Crede on here, let me ask you this question: Would you, like me, cringe to see Joe in a Twins uniform playing the Sox 20 times a season? A healthy Joe playing against us? Awful news for the Sox. The guy is a clutch hitter and great fielder. I would literally hurl my morning bowl of wheaties and beer if that happened. Nothing would hurt more than to see Joe with the Twinkies

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) He was turning into an all-star calibur player before his back acted up again. I don't think he's healthy. I didn't even realize he's already 30. Best of luck to him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he rested at least all of this season. He was and is a gold glove all-star caliber player

NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer
elrockinMT replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If someone can sign Abreu for $3M then why would they take Dye who is making about $12M? Reading these post one would think Dye should be valued at about $150K for all the respect he is given.. Dye is superior to Abreu IMO. Not that Bobby isn't a good player, but if he is still unsigned and only worth $3M then maybe there is something more wrong than just the economy? -
Is KW actually watching the Dow Jones or being a jerk?
elrockinMT replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If they ever identify a team nucleus for the future you hope they sign them to long term deals, but are these guys even close to being free agent escapees? -
Spring Training is for eternal hope and competition. I am looking forward to seeing what develops
-
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 6, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) I still imagine he'll get signed by someone after the ASB, and be a valuable FA next off-season if he can show he's 100% healthy. Still, a lot of guys who have had surgeries such as Mark Mulder have never been the same. Right! But, it goes to show how fickle a pitchers health issues are and the dangers of long term contratcs with big money for hurlers.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 6, 2009 -> 05:41 AM) Ever since we got Thome I've dreamt of a DH platoon consisting of the two. I mean, hell, if we have room for clowns like Wasserman or Nix then why the hell not make our DH spot one that opposing pitchers don't want to f*** with. It would certainly count more than a mop or someone who Jenks would probably surpass on the infield depth charts... The way the game is played and managed today is different. I agree with your feeling and I wouldn't have any problem with a combo of Thome and Thomas. But, the days of Smokey Burgess are over and so sad

I have that DVD also, but DVD or the MLB channel----it was fun. I am ready for the season to start

THE CARDINALS WON THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!!!
elrockinMT replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
When does baseball start? And whoever heard of a Cardinal in Arizona anyway? A buzzard maybe. -
QUOTE (vandy125 @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) KW just said that he might be better than Garland. There was no outright guarantee there... I don't think that anyone would guarantee that, but Colon does have a much higher ceiling if everything works out well. Your right about what KW said. I was not quoting KW, but the post itself. Colon, if healthy and he remains healthy is a great competitior no doubt and could be very important to this teasm success. I really was trying to make the point that we shouldn't bash former players in any way shape or form IMO as they made our super 2005 season possible.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 09:06 PM) $1 MILL if he makes the team it says. That's a pretty good deal considering he can give you well above average defense at 3 positions and when he's hot, he drives in big runs. Thanks for all you did for the Sox Juan Uribe and good luck

I always loved the Big Hurt. One of my favorite baseball memories is going to Denver in 2005 when the Sox played there and seeing the Big Hurt hit a PH homer to dead centerfield. The fans at Coord Field went crazy for the Sox and the Hurt. He might be through now for sure, but I hope to see him back somewhere. The Sox connection is probably long over, but one can always dream.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 09:16 AM) Bartolo's "ceiling" is higher than Garland's, a lot higher But will injuries prevent him from reaching that ceiling, or anywhere close to it Also, will Garland's shoulder knot problem resurface preventing him from being useful in 2009 (And perhaps, is a reason for his lackluster performance in 2008) I am all for supporting the team, but to say outright that BC is going to be better than JG at this point in Bart's career might be pushing it. I don't remember Jon being on the disabled list and Bart has obviously. If we get ten wins from Bartolo I will be happy. Don't get me wrong it's not that I want or expect Colon to fail it's just we need to be realistic. One of the reasons we won that 2005 World Series is because of Jon Garland also.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) Ok here's a question. If you were offered Felix Hernandez for Carlos Quentin, what would your response be? Would you ask for Morrow to be included in the deal also (with the Sox likely giving up something back I would think). A young pitcher already showing a penchant for injuries for a stud slugger? No thanks

I think we should flood the other sites with trade rumors. Obviously they don't have to be true or even realistic so let's go. I have heard a rumor that Boston wants to trade Babe Ruth to the NY Yankmees. That is ludicrous

NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer
elrockinMT replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) The Sox would be stuck with 3 OF's who could only play in corner OF spots though. Don't think they can take that sort of chance. Excellent point -
NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer
elrockinMT replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 02:39 PM) Either this report is BS or somebody is getting moved. Didn't the NY papers make some statement about the Sox trading someone earlier this year and it turned out to be BS? One can never tell of course, but why do a deal like this? We have no need for Abreu, ora t least at this point. -
KW ranked in "second tier" of five (MLB GM's)
elrockinMT replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am slowly and painfully real;izing the Sox trade away or allow to walk via free agency players that are ready to make money and start over again. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) Swish really wasn't bad in CF. He wasn't good, but it's not like he was Macowiak blowing plays out there left and right. I'd say he was about league average. Honestly I think anyone who thought he sucked out there are just letting their memories of his non-existent bat affect their memory. I would agree that he wsn't worse than Mack. He was a good IBman and Swish did give 100% no doubt.

I-Rod is intersting as a back up, but we know his skills are diminishing and some pitchers have a problem with his game calling

Viciedo loses weight + leadoff hitter news
elrockinMT replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Based on just the quotes I would have to agree that I am not sure we "got any better" either. But, what we had last year wasn't bad. A few players performing better in 2009 might make us better withour trades and FA signings.
