QUOTE (beck72 @ Feb 1, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) I don't think the "pipeline" is drying up. I take KW's comments more that Torres is looking for a place where his clients will get a good opportunity and fit best. Gomez may not be a fit for the sox, even though most people around here aren't very comfortable with CF/ leadoff possibilities of Owens or Lillibridge. Kenny seems determined to give guys like Owens, Lillibridge and Getz a shot to hit leadoff. Now Marti, that may be another story. If the 4-5th SP's don't impress in Spring, I could see KW making a big play for him. If the US policy towards Cuba changes, and obviously the communist regime's policies change, I think Cuba will be a hotbed for recruiting new baseball talent. It may be drying up now as KW puts it, but only because of the current political realities.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) At this point, I think we're trying to keep those sorts of details over there, yeah. I will try and do better

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) URibe thread exists in Diamond Club. Is it wrong to post this kind of news on this thread? If so I apologize. I don't always look at the Diamond Club as it indicates non-Sox news. I guess Crede and Uribe are non-Sox though.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) I think this is definitely dated/old news. Juan signed a minor league deal with the possibility of making $1 million if he makes the major league club...and Crede's workout is being hyped by the Boras Machine, but the likelihood of getting guaranteed numbers over $5.1 million is pretty laughable at this point as a concept. Adam Dunn and Abreu might not even get $5 million the way things are going right now. Old news? It was new news to me

The New Governor of Illinois is a White Sox Fan

QUOTE (TLAK @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 11:45 PM) Check him out. Daily Herald I've been following Quinn's career for several years. He was White Sox before White Sox was cool. Excuse me TLAK, ole buddy, but White Sox have always been cool. You should see me in a Sox hat. -
MLB.Com has an article today that Juan Uribe reportedly signed with the Giants. Crede has been working out for the scouts and the Giants and Rangers are intertested and now the Twinkies may be in the mix.

Viciedo loses weight + leadoff hitter news
elrockinMT replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's a fun time is all I can say. I am waiting for ST to open and get a chance to look at the likes of Viciedo etc etc. Hope we see a few games on TV so we can get a gander at the talent. -
KW's "we're all set" press declarations
elrockinMT replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 05:51 PM) Is there motive behind this? Just revving up the fan base? I'm curious, does anyone remember him doing this as a precursor to a big move.... b/c he likes being The Sleuth The Sequel Or is it seriously just to get us ready for 'standing pat.' I feel like right before Gooch got done he announced that it wasnt going to happen, no? Good question you ask, but I see any of these types of statements, and we have heard plenty of them this year and in years past, as mostly the eternal optimism of management which is borne out by the fact all teams are basically even until after the first game of the season. It is a long baseball season and only time will tell. But, on the other hand there are still free agent players out there we could certainly use on the Sox and/or trades that could be made. But, I love it anyway. -
I think through this particular subejct and the responses I have figured out the problem not only with Fields but with the Sox defensive shortcomings as a whole.... It is Joey Cora. Time to bash him now instead of us Crede supporters
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) I've been critical of Fields, and haven't been to high on him since his pathetic performance last year, but if he's got a new approach at bat, can at least maybe hit the fastball, and has improved his D, then he should/could be a decent player. I see his ceiling pretty much being a .250 hitter, with 30 HR and 90 RBI potential, with a .350 OBP and decent D. Not bad for a thirdbasemen. But he needs to prove he has done what I have mentioned before I think he can even be a remotely serviceable player. Sure thing. That may be exactly what it takes and you have to applaud any player that wants to show he belongs in the majors and is willing to work his butt off to prove it. I hope he has what it takes and is the answer to the 3B situation.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) Then he will claim collusion....... Having Boras as your agent is always a risk and has already backfired on Crede. Didn't Kevin Millwood and Kyle Lohse also get burned. Who is Milt Bradley's agent? I am surprised that the agents for players haven't started yelling collusion already because of the low salary offers to free agent players. Do you think maybe that will come?
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 05:36 PM) Fixed for accuracy. I love Crede, but if he isn't healthy and can't stay healthy, he is worthless as a baseball player and there's no point in talking about it. It's a tough one for sure
-
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) Do you just not realize he can't stay healthy? How are you not able to understand that? Yeah he is a fantastic player, but his stats won't be that good while on the DL for 50% of the season. We aren't talking about whether he can stay healthy, at least not in this particular response. We were discussing the fact Melissa thinks Joe was not a productive player. I disagreed with her on that point. Plus I would tell you that hopefully his operation keeps him off the DL in the future. Anyone that has been injured or otherwise has a health issue is a risk no doubt. Joe Crede is not the first player to be injured in baseball. History shows you that players can rebound from injuries and operations. Tommy John is an excellent example of that.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 05:26 PM) Not Gonna Happen I don't put much faith in these off seasons stories centered around how healthy Joe Crede is either. I'd like too, but can't argue with that point
-
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) crede(who has never had one great/good FULL season)and his bad back Melissa I think you must be typing faster than you are thinking. Joe Crede was the man in 2005 for sure. He is also widely preaised for his defense and clutch hitting and not just by Sox fans
-
QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 06:19 PM) I wish the best for Josh. Could these articles be to increase his trade value? One can only hope. People here say to move on from Crede's days and embrace Fields. Crede has back problems, or did, they point out and is an injury liability. However, they seem to forget that Fields was injured and is coming back from injury rehab also. We seem to forget that fact. I am sure that Crede won't be back (pardon the pun), but that doesn't mean I have to like it-accept it yes, but not like it. I see Fields as a defensive liability, who can swing a good bat, or at least he showed that for half a year or so. He doesn't have enough history for me to praise his prowress with the bat. I saw what he showed with the glove and I was not impressed with that part of his game. However, if Cora wants to give us the ole pre-season pump up fine, but we all know that every team in the majors and their players will be getting that from their coaching staff and manager. It's a great time to dream-the off season that is. I want Fields to suceed for sure because it sure looks like he is the 3B option right now. It's a roll of the dice soemtimes.
-
Please bring back Joe Crede. I would think the price would be right and Joe >than Josh. I know it isn't going to happen, but I am afraid we will see some loses in 2009 because of inferior defense at 3B. I don't put much faith in these off season stories centered around how much better someone is looking. They all look and perform better during winter reconditioning.
-
I think we better sign Joe Crede for thirdbase so we don't have a question there
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Jan 25, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) I predict Garland will sign with the Dodgers. I won't take you up on that bet. It is entirely plausible, but I would still likle to see him back with the Sox

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) This is the part I don't get about this: What the hell does that mean?!? If it's profitable...why close it? If it has value...why not at least try and sell it off? Tax write-off for Sara Lee? That's what I want to know about it .. Didn't make much business since does it? -

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 09:16 PM) Eh, I had Nathan's at Coney Island and it's good, but nowhere near as good as one would think based on the recognizability of the brand. This is sad news. The salty stool served at Cubs games better not show up at the Cell... Not pretending to know much about the hot dog/sausage industry, but this won't be affecting my polish w/ grilled onions, will it? Once a Cubs fan had a chardonnay or two at the game they probably didn't know what they were eating anyway -
Freddy Garcia speculation (Closed - Garcia Signs W/Mets)

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) With the money saved with Javy/Ocab/Swish how do the sox not have money to give him? Not saying I want Kenny to sign him, just saying I am pretty sure the money is there. Unless you see a dramatic drop in payroll. Which could be the case I suppose. I think it's there too. Maybe we will get real lucky and KW will go ahead and bring Crede back too -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) And I doubt the Sox have enough money to give him. Garland won't be back with the Sox. I think we have it with what has been saved from trades. Not saying we will be signing Jon, but there are worse options out there and Jon's asking price will be comng down.
