QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 01:33 AM) Next year.... Indianapolis. So they'll have winter. Of course, that doesn't help you out much since you're in Montana. And I could have shown them a good time at the Wild West Bar and Grill too and the Silver Dollar Saloon!

QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Nov 27, 2008 -> 03:12 AM) Escobar + Morton for Javy and JD? Or giving up the tractor, the cow, the pigs,
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 27, 2008 -> 03:12 AM) Escobar and Hanson would be pretty nice. Throw in Gorkys and Reyes and the Braves can have Javy, Dye, Bobby, and Kenny's own son - literally, he's in our organization. Nothing like giving up the farm is there?

QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 06:16 PM) This sounds a lot like a KW move. Trading for a pitcher that was a first round pick whose value has considerably declined. I wouldn't be surprised if this were to happen. I don't care what salary Dye is due you don't trade his talent for someone with the track record Bailey showed. I hope this is just what it seems and that is an unsubtantiated rumor leading to nothing

ESPN radio reporting Mets/White Sox talks heating up...

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 09:35 PM) Okay if we can only give up Jenks and Vazquez for Martinez and Pelfrey, I would do that in a heartbeat. Martinez is a f***ing stud and Pelfrey has a bright future. I'd maybe want another piece, but why would the Mets do this? But...it's probably both guys for either Martinez or Pelfrey. I'm not sure- I still may consider that. Getting prospects for proven veterans for our side doesn't sound like a KW deal to me. Plus two of our pitchers would leave quite a hole unless we have some free agent for sure signings. -
I hope that KW just says NO

I like this move, but you don't pay that kind of money to someone to play AA or AAA. Maybe part of 2009, but my guess is he will be in the bigs real soon if not opening day. If he plays 3B where does Josh Fields go?

I've been to the Winter meetings on TV via ESPN. I am waiting for the day they actually have the Winter Meetings somewhere-like here- where they actually have winter. You can tell I am jealous of the fact you can go. Good luck to you in picking up autographs and rumors.

I like Joey Cora and if he isn't going to manage somewhere I am very glad he is staying with the Sox and his pal Ozzie Guillen

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 06:21 PM) Saw this in a Rotoworld FA Hitters preview; He could be an excellent backup for the 1B/OF spots. Wonder how much he'll be after? I was wondering before who would act as the back up to Konerko. Hinske might be a good choice for that role plus he can fill in at the corner OF spots, but do you think a minor leaguer from our farm system could fill the back up role and at a cheaper price?
-
We trade Jermaine Dye for Victorino? Why? Dye is still a solid ballplayer with much value to the Sox. You fill one need and open up a second

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 03:44 AM) Pretty compelling. Looks like he would be perfect to pair up with Fields and Getz as sort of a three-way platoon with each getting about an equal number of at-bats by matching them up with individual pitchers...Or course, Nix could figure in as well, but I think Nix will be in AAA unless he really rakes in ST. Then you could see Getz down and the 3-way platoon would be between Fields, Betemit and Nix. Kind of intriguing....assuming Ramirez can play SS, which I'm 95% confident he can. Worst-case scenario, they just end up holding the position down while waiting for the emergence of Beckham as the prodigal son/starter. I don't mind this idea at all when you compare it to the costs of acquiring Beltre/Roberts/Hudson. No way! Which leads one to the obvious conclusion that our leadoff hitter will come from CF, will not be Brian Anderson, COULD be Jerry Owens (for now) and that the 5th starter spot will get some additional support (hopefully) with the worst-case being an incentive-laden deal for a Garcia or Colon type. I think even Paul Byrd might get guaranteed money from some team out there. You don't win pennants with three way platoons. My guess is Betamit is a super sub like uribe was supposed to be. The second base or third base spot or both may still be filled by a trade or FA signing

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 08:34 AM) So we essentially traded Swisher for Jose Valentin then? Hey now! I liked Jose Valentin

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Varitek is a switch hitter who hit .284/.378/.484/.863 in 111 PA against lefties last season and .284/.362/.468/.830 for his career. If his name wasn't Jason Varitek and not represented by Boras then it would make perfect sense, he'd be the ideal backup catcher to AJ. I didn't realize Varitek was a switch hitter. It would make perfect sense, C an he play back up at 1B?
-
QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) How does he deserve to be a starter? He was awful last year. I always have believed in loyalty. Plus it might have been just a down year for Varitek
-
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 06:51 PM) Discuss... Good way to keep yourself out of harms way when you start a topic and then let the posters figure out what to "discuss" Anyway Varitek? We need someone willing to play backup to AJ. Jason Varitek wants to be a starter and derves to be a starter

Getting back to the heading of this POSt-Swisher. KW didn't waste any time so I hope what we got back for Swish is top calibre. A super sub infielder and prospects. No speed and I am not certain he is a good fielder eithet (Betamit)

We see this rumor talk going around about trading Bobby Jenks and commenst about the Sox thinkig a kid at AA (Link) can step in and become the big league closer to replace Jenks. My thoughts on this is someone must have alot of time of their hands to dream, this stuff up. The Sox can'tg really be that far out are they?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 05:08 PM) If any White Sox was really friendly to Cowley with all the BS he writes, it would raise an eyebrow for me. I expect hatchet jobs on every player who leaves from this hack. I also think the White Sox put up with some of his BS on twitter etc. because they know this "inside scoop reaming" will come and will help with the fanbase on trades that are deemed not so popular. I wasn't a Nick Swisher fan, but it is understandable for a guy who was as bad as he was to be down if he has any pride in his performance. The "pouting" when he wasn't playing didn't bother me either. I'd rather have a bunch of guys who wonder why they aren't playing than a bunch of guys who have no problem sitting out all the time. I wonder why Cowley thinks its wrong for a guy to want to play. I'm sure Cowley already has his piece written for when OC signs elsewhere. I was bothered by it. You didn't see Paul Konerko do that. You also saw how BA turned his attitude around, etc. I liked Swisher too, but I agree he wasn't the fit we thought we were getting. Building the winning team is what it is all about

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) I fully expect either Colon or Garcia to end up as a member of the Sox by the time pitchers and catchers report, so, no, I see nothing wrong with posting this, and no, I would have no problem with Colon as the #5 in the rotation at the beginning of the season. Garcia has more upside IMO as the #5 starter. I always liked Freddie

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:51 PM) Do you think Contreras is? Jose isn't until maybe after the 09 all star game? So you might be answering your won question. I don't see Wood a starter, and if he is he wouldn't stay healthy enough to last all season

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) AS of now, next year is looking like C AJ 1b Konerko 2B Getz/NIX 3B Fields/Betemit SS Missle Rf Dye Cf Anderson Lf Q DH Thome Don't call me out on this, because i think we'll get a CF (not TAVERAS!) But in two years it gets really juicy. We're talking Allen, Beckham, Danks 2, Viciedo, Armstrong and maybe even Shelby on the bench, Juicy good ! ?
-
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 02:55 AM) i am not opposed to dealing Jenks. His price is about to skyrocket. His Ks are declining. He doesn't stay in shape. And he has that screw in his arm. But ... we don't have anybody to fill that role. That's Kenny's dilemma. I feel strongly both ways about that
-
QUOTE (dww879 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) Konerko, Thome or Dye all should have been traded instead of Swisher no way

Rocco Baldelli , Shea Hillebrand
elrockinMT replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) I didn't think Baldelli was worth it either til I saw how he did in the against the Sox and in WS. He's still fast and a good fielder He's a free agent and probably won't get more than $1-2 mil a year. To dismiss Hillebrand as a cancer would be rash. Couldn't hurt to give him a tryout if we're looking at Fields to open ST. The article says their are 6 other teams interested in Rocco so if they're satisfied that he can play back up OF why wouldnt the Sox. Speed, power and defense off the bench for cheap. I am thinking we have our own options for a sub OF'er. Not to take anything away from Baldelli, but why spend a few million on a reserve when you have good players at the ML minimum?
