  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 02:14 AM) Right now if I were a GM of another team, I'd freaking drool at the chance to buy Paulie low. The guy is an above average first baseman with a great contract. He showed that when healthy he is as productive as ever and he's been a very good post-season player (this post-season included). The guy was huge for the Sox down the stretch this year and I don't think I'd trade him without getting very good value. Thome would be a guy I'd consider moving, but he's just too cheap so really the only spots you can upgrade are 2B/3B/CF and the Sox may go in-house at one of those spots and need to move Swish to free up another one of those spots. I have to agree with what you are saying here. Why trade Dye, who is still a productive hitter, a great RBI guy, good fielder and a team player. PK is the captain of the team and was plagued by injuries in 2008. When healthy he will hit .300/35 HR/110 RBI Thome maybe, but you are limited to DH roles and he still can hit the homer and get on base via the walk so I see CF/3B and 2B as the spots where upgrades can be made too. But, I am thinking Swisher is in CF most of the time again with some at LF/RF and 1B
  2. The Yankees and/or Red Sox wil get them all, but maybe Florida will sneak in there. I will be surprised if the Marlins don't go after the Cuban ball players big time. But, snide remarks about the Yanks and Bosox aside I do hope KW tries for a couple of those players. I think it would do a lot to infuse some new and exciting talent into our system.
  3. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) Great point and something I did not consider. Add that on the side of having 40 guys in the clubhouse. But think about this, does it detract from the cohesiveness of the 25 guys who were selected to be on the playoff team to try to bond 40 guys, including 15 who are not on the team for the playoffs and whose playoff roster spot they lost to? Which follows my point, the focus should be on winning today, not Spring training when a fourth of the playoff guys will not be around anyways. To play! They are called up in September to gain some MLB experience, sell some tickets for teams that are out of it, gives their clubs a chance to see how they have developed. Lots of great reasons. Why doesn't every team max out on September call ups if the important thing is sitting in the locker room? Playoff teams especially tend to limit how many they call up. I'm not saying there aren't some damn good reasons for having every minor league player hanging out in the clubhouse. But I guess I'm the only one that sees a cost in having so many unfamiliar and extraneous faces in the clubhouse. I am swayed.
  4. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 10:05 PM) The story says the players that made the trip to Florida, I wonder why every player didn't make the trip? And, if they were not going to be on the roster, why were they told only after the got there? It seemed that the team made the decision in route or after the arrived in Florida. Kenny in Chicago After Twins Game: Hey! We made the playoffs! We're going to Florida! Logan, Broadway pack your bags! It's Playoff time!! Kenny in Florida: PYSCH! Here's the couch! Enjoy the game! Remember the cokes are for the players so you can't have one. Yep! That would be quite a pep talk.
  5. Team support is the bottom line and the guys that went home apparently don't understand that. However, there may be more here than what we are reading in this story and the more I ponder it the more I just have to think we need to step back and not get to critical yet. Other than Broadway, who amongst them is really in the picture for 09 anyway?
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 04:43 AM) I saw some quotes earlier as well saying there were speedier guys in the organization like Getz and Owens (he even included Fields as fairly fast) for Oz to use if he wishes. Didn't they cut off Fields leg at the knee or someithing? I don't think he will be very fast.
  7. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:09 AM) I had no idea that you could only have a certain amount of players in the dugout. I remember Thomas, Anderson, and Gload in the dugout during the 2005 playoffs. Neither did I. But, Broadway and other young pitchers can learn an awful lot from Mark Buerhle and I think from the way it sounds he is a willing and good teacher
  8. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 01:10 AM) How about this: Welcome to SS Alexei Ramirez!!! That's my guess too. However, I have nothing against OC except that he will probbaly costs too much money to sign as our SS. Is there a leadoff man out there that can play SS-2B or 3B? I would guess Figgins and Roberts, but I don't see why LAA would let Figgins go and if they ddi at what cost?
  9. If Carlos Quentin is back healed and healthy nexy yer where does Swisher go but CF? Quentin-Swisher and Dye as the starting OF and Anderson and Wise as the relief in the OF. Right now that's the way I see it stacking up. Obviously anything can happen though. I see is trying to plug holes at 3B and 2B and Ramirez moves to SS. Konerko is the 1Bman.
  10. QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) Juan Pierre is not coming to the South Side. I don't know where you guys come up with this crap. Stand by for more!!! It will get weirder as the off-season progresses. But, still kind of fun to see all the weird ideas that get floated around out there.
  11. I would welcome Uribe back, if for no oterh reason then his ability to give the team infield options. I wouldn't expect much if any improvement at the plate though.
  12. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) Revitalized his career this year, and we all became fans strangely enough Although our standards were pretty low at the position by the time he turned things around He still doesnt have the bat control this team needs. and while we'd love him for a utility role, i bet he'll want a raise and multiyear w/ his comeback year. a good agent can get that from another team. not a ton, but he has defense and some power. what will happen? (not should) and FWIW he's listed as 29 yrs old.
  13. It was a very good year. The Sox did better then the so called experts predicted and I think they were an exciting ball club. Too bad injuries hampered us the second half. We missed Carlos Quentin, Joe Crede and Jose Contreraras and Konerko was hurt a lot also. But they battled on. I can't wait for 2009 to start.Just about 5 months left to go
  14. QUOTE (MAX @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:01 PM) All of you people saying he doesn't care must have missed or are intentionally ignoring his confrontation with AJ. He was fired up, he just sucks. Agreed. He cares there is no doubt and he is as upset as anyone, maybe more so, that he can't deliver when needed. He sure has the talent.
  15. He is still part of the team and contributed some wins that helped get us to where we are today. He folded under pressure yes, but still you don't degrade your own players IMO. He may be trade bait this winter for sure, but don't count him out as a member of the 2009 Sox.
  16. I'll be there at the game behind the big screen in my living room. Go Sox! Go Gavin Floyd!
  17. If we win on Monday do you think Ozzie brings back Vazquez to pitch in TB?
  18. Danks tomorrow and if we win who goes at TB? Do you think Ozzie might give Vazquez another try?
  19. I watched this game on TBS. Danks made one real bad pitch is all. Wise was the man today
  20. I really like this youyngster more and more. And to think the Sox staff had to basically rework him after getting him from Texas. He and Floyd are quite apair. It seems Mark Buerhle has a way of working with these youngsters too
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) Vazquez and Cabrera are two of them. Their absence did not go unnoticed. Once the White Sox announced the official playoff roster for the American League Division Series on Wednesday, extra players who made the trip to Florida had the option to stay with the team or go home. RELATED STORIES A defining role Ramirez better than grand Inside the White Sox: Updates from our blog From Joe Cowley" Click here to follow Joe on Twitter and learn how get his updates delivered right to you >> Reliever Ehren Wassermann was asked to stay because he is the first option to move into the bullpen if there is an injury. Not that it mattered to the right-hander. ''I was staying no matter what,'' Wassermann said. Mike MacDougal, Boone Logan and Lance Broadway, on the other hand, decided to leave their teammates behind and call it a year. In doing so, they left a few teammates shaking their heads and the organization questioning their futures. I believe this is the real story!
  22. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) Funny, I would have been happier than a pig in s*** if I got another paycheck for this season without doing a damn thing to contribute to it. Might in fact be the last mlb check he ever gets. Joe Crede did contribute to the Sox winning this season
  23. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 06:29 PM) Wow I was just comparing the two scenarios! Ok, Kenny, but don't second guess yourself. We stil luv yah!
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 04:35 AM) You don't think Joe Crede will be a clutch hitter again if healthy? I'd rather have Joe Crede at 70 percent than Juan Uribe at 110 percent. THe only good thing of him going to the Twins is he won't be able to increase his speed. He'll still be slow on the basepaths. I obviously am a big fan of Joe Crede's and would like to him his sign again with the Sox. I really think we have abetter shot with Joe than making a trade for someone that can do the job at 3B. It will be intersting to see how his medical condition progresses over the winter.
  25. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) win the next 3? yeah because it's that easy lol we need a better team (in terms of speed, defense, hitting ability, and bullpen) to beat the rays 3 games in a row we are surely lacking in all of those areas we're lucky to even be IN the playoffs But, we ARE in the playoffs and we are for a reason. Let's hope those reasons shine again and we continue. Think positive!
