Cleveland Indians @ Chicago White Sox - 9/26
elrockinMT replied to nitetrain8601's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 04:33 AM) Well, this is the worst, most inaccurate title of a game thread in history. Close this thread, and let's start the game thread in a few hours with more positivity. I'm with you Fathom! -
KW crying? Maybe he will finally do something!!!

I love it when people analyze. It ain't ovah till it's ovah! This team was never supposed to compete for this title and of course the Twins either. We have had injuries, hitters in what seems to be season long slumps, melt downs by starting and relieving pitching both, lumbering runners that can't outrun a lumber truck, shaky defense, etc, etc But we are still there fighting for that title. Hopefully these players come together and show passion and patience at the same time and play like winners and if they do we will be the top dog come Sunday or Monday or Tuesday. I think we can do it! Anyway I think it's all Jay Moronotti's fault -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 03:43 AM) Wise has been exposed for the 5th outfielder that he is. And how do you not get 1 f***ing run off of that bullpen? Changes are needed and I wouldn't be surprised to see a few heads roll. This is what I was screaming about at my vehicle windshield tonight.. We have guys playing out of their roles. Wise is a good fill in/4th or 5th outfielder and not a starter. Where was Anderson? Why was Swisher benched? Why bring in your closer with one out of the 8th? Why leave Thornton in for basically that third inning. Where was our clutch hitting? It has just been a poor three games and really a poor performance before that too.

106 pages and over 1500 posts on this game. Wow! I was driving (about 2 plus hours) and listened to XM radio. Anyone who has followed Sox baseball and our games with the Twins, especially at that concrete field they call a baseball stadium, could tell ow this game was going to end. We score 6 runs in one inning mostly becasue of youthful mistakes by the Twins and then get shut down and al the while the Twins just keep pecking away. Out big closer chokes as do our hitters and that's that. We have three or four or five left now and are 1/2 game behind. Question is does this team have anything left at all. I am not sure I see it if they do. But, we will be back in Chicago. However, the Twins are playing at the dome.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 06:08 AM) The BEST thing this team can do from the onset is score a few runs (within the first three innings), and then for Gavin Floyd to immediately shut down the Twins the half inning after. Look at these last two games -- whenever we have scored (aside from Griffey's 9th inning HR yesterday), the Twins have responded the following inning. This needs to stop. It completely deflates a club. If we're going down 1-2-3 to Slowey and Gavin gives up a run, the "we're doomed" mentality will resonate through the club again. Dye, Konerko and Thome have to quit embarrassing the White Sox logo as well. It's pitiful watching this display of missing hanger after hanger, or pounding everything into the ground directly to a fielder. Quit acting like pussies and win a game. That is a good sound strategy

A little more offense would be nice. We have seen Gavin Floyd step up so often that I will be absolutely crushed if he fails tonight. Floyd and danks are our future staff aces, if not already claiming that title this year. I still rank Buerhle #1.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) i was wondering if he was taking BP yet or still working out with a stick? I hate the fact that there hasn't been any updates since he worked out in KC. Front office and manager seem to be pretty quiet on this topic. However, I think we can gather from some reports that his return is doubtful.
-
I don't think we wanted to be the way we are, but making the run for the trophy with what we have is pretty impressive. Right now it's nothing that a few more runs scored every game won't solve.
-
I am thinking we will see our future pitching ace in action tonight. If his curve is there we will be a winnah tonight. I'll be listening on XM

You win and/or lose as a team.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 12:19 AM) This game's about to be over quick. Buehrle can keep his fastball down in the zone. I posted this earlier and that is if Buerhle can't get through without giving up a bunch of hits we will be cooked -

I don't like the vibes when MB walks the first batter. Hopefully he is just setting up the DP -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) You thought the same thing last year, how did that work out. Crede is done with this team. Move on, the sox have. He helped carry this team for over half the season and was an all-star. Some injuries take longer to recover from plus he and the Sox know what the problem with the back is this year. I don't think we ever heard, but he did share that with the Sox. If you think you are right you don't capitulate so I ain't giving up my Crede liuv my friend.. However, I will tell you that I don't expect Joe back.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) well that drafting isnt going to help them much longer because they are building a new outside/grass ballpark. I belieev that is a very astute observation and I agree. Get them out of that so called baseball dome they are in and on grass and things even out in Minny especially between the Twins and Sox

That was alot of numbers and I'm not good at math

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) Even Rally Crede doesn't work this year. He's a player that will never play for us again, basically was kicked out of the locker room, and has a back "injury". That's how I think the Sox treated him from the way it looks. They "kicked him out". Joe might need the rest this off season with regular speciifc workouts and I think he willl be back strong in 2009. I hope we at least give it an honest shot at trying to sign him. Juan Uribe is not the full-time answer at 3B, but is as a super sub, and Josh Fields is not my choice at all.

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) we have mark and gavin going the next two games. im not worried Me either as long as we have the Mark B show up that can shut down the Twins offense and hold runners and not the one that gives up 14 hits in 5 or 6 innings. The same goes for Floyd. We need sharpness and not allow 3 homers to the Twinkies. I feel better though with Mark Buerhle tonight as his history shows he can step up in the big game situations.

QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 02:53 AM) Sometimes, your internet is out so you go to the college library with your laptop to watch the game on MLB.TV. Sometimes, you bring some whiskey with you in case things get bad. Sometimes, you turn on the game at 2-1, and jumps to 5-1, now 7-1 and who knows... I guess the moral of this story is, at some point your whiskey will run out and you will just be an angry, drunken man in a cubicle? Very Interesting... -

I just got back from a meeting and am checking in only to see the Sox have checked out. Pathetic display by a team wanting, or so it says, to win the division. But, as Yobi Berra once said "It ain't over till it's over." Maybe a miracle will happen
