  1. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) I believe him about Fields, though. Playing regularly, lets face it, Crede's usual .260 average will be matched easily. Just another way to get a bit younger. I like the commitment. It will be much harder to replace th defense and defense is what wins games. Plus if Creded is healthy you have a 30 homer guy that is a clutch performer. I am in the group that believes things will still happen this off season that can change this story line
  2. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 07:20 PM) Besides Olivo, who's the best defensive FA C out there on the market? Would the Sox sign Olivo again? I don't think the kid is a bad catcher at all and offensively is better than some out there. He can hit with some authority and poor Toby seemed to be more of a singles hitter after coming back from the injury. Question on Olivo is whether he is afit with this team or not.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 30, 2008 -> 02:54 AM) IF Crede walks, lol!! I'm not convinced yet that it will happen. We'll see. Kind of the opposite of the Durham for Adkins deal where we were just trying to save money and "test drive" Willie Harris and there was a lot of speculation at the time that no compensation would be provided for lost FA's, so KW took a stab at Adkins' supposed plus arm in what turned out to be one of his worst PR disasters, along with the Barry/Berry Onan Masaoka deal. I am hopeing we sign Crede and Uribe both. Uribe can give us solid insurance at 2B and most certainly as the super sub. It is rather sad to see a player of Ken Griffey Jr's caliber being listed as a Type B free agent. It's all in what do you have left and done for me lately though. I don't see him abck with the Sox, but I think he did bring some class to the organization and helped us ger to the playoffs
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) I believe they are building the Juan Uribe buffet. Is this necessary?
  5. QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 27, 2008 -> 11:03 PM) this has been what i've said all year and what i'll continue to say. trading him would be a mistake. Yep
  6. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 07:06 PM) good. stupid trade from the beginging I don't think it was a bad mid season move at all, but long term he is no answer for our need in CF
  7. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 08:51 PM) Not a bad backup policy. I agree. Gives the team more options as we see what develops for spots on the team in 2009
  8. role player who is a fighter, but really wouldn't help our situation
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) That's a good point. I was refering to people just pointing at SBs and completely missing a guys SLG or OBP. I think your Avatar is great and you need to post much more so I can look at it all the time. It is probably the bestest angle shot I have ever seen. Where did you get it so I can go there.
  10. QUOTE (joeynach @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) I hope the surprise is that Thome/Konerko will be traded for figgins. Or that Vazquez will waive his no trade and get out of here. Not a good trade for the Sox either way
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) I don't know why he is called inexpensive when he makes $11 million a year and generally gives you a .500 record with an ERA at or above league average. He may have talent, but if you use results, he's an average at best pitcher. $11 million for that is very high. I think what is really sad is that a lifetime .500 pitcher commands this kind of money, but it ain't just Javy Vazquez getting paid that much. He can be very good and we might find it a bargain to keep him for his 12-15 wins, but I wouldn't have any heartburn over a trade for something we need in return. You just don't give the guy away like some are suggesting.
  12. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 05:04 AM) Man I want to go so bad this year. This spring break will be my last before I join the real world. Yet none of my good friends are white sox fans. Such a dilemma... If I were you I would quit hanging around those guys if they aren't Sox fans. You might not be able to graduate or find a good job after college with that kind of baggage.
  13. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 05:44 AM) MLBTradeRumors mentioned we may be interested in Mike Lowell. Anyone care to comment on that? I have kind of mixed feelings on the matter. We sign a guy coming off season ending surgery, but not our own Joe Crede. I don't think so
  14. It does cause me a moment of humor and some bafflement about why folks think we need to trade our team away to compete next year. Certainly we can improve, but the names being thrown out there PK, Dye, Thome, Swisher as if they were our problem (s). Players have off years, but that doesn't mean they are bad players. Certainly some might have more trade value than othrs, but what are you looking for in return? That is the question. Where do we need to improve and how can we do it? There are some pretty decent free agents available, etc. But, whatever we do let's not forget we WON the division and that was with some guys having off years and others being injured. I certainly agee we can do better but we did alright this past season.
  15. QUOTE (BearSox @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 12:42 AM) Probably the trade of one of Dye/Konerko/Thome. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Swish traded. I would be very surprised if you were right with these names
  16. I saw the title and got excited. Darn you!
  17. Wilbur Wood was a real good pitcher, but not HOF material. How many guys can pitch about 300 innings and also start both games of a DH?
  18. QUOTE (Felix @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 06:11 PM) Fixed. You fixed my post to add your comments. That's ok, but I don't think Griffey Jr "sucks", but agree he "was" a great player at one time not such much anymore.
  19. QUOTE (YASNY @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 03:03 AM) Out of those 4 players, Griffey is the one I want back the least. He would be my 4th choice out of four also. I think Konerko and Dye are still big hitters and Thome sure has the power left and gets a lot of walks. Griffey's skills have diminished. He is more a leader, but so are the other fellows.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) Well, he was right. Kid won 17 this season. That's one way to look at it I guess
  21. Griffey Jr is a great player and I know he gave it his all while with the Sox, but I would really be surprised if he is back next year with us at least not if he is asking for $16M give or take $10M
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) I think Beckham will be on the fast track, but they have to decide what position he's going to play. I could see him being up at some point during the 09 season, but not to start the season. That doesn't seem realistic since they'll build a team that can win in 2009. They certainly won't count on Beckham to start the season in Chicago. My feeling is Beckham will play 2B next year at Birmingham. If Alexei is a great SS, he'll stay there. If not, Beckham will move back to SS. I'm not buying the 3rd base idea. I think Beckham is in the opening day lineup in 2010, and hopefully for the next 15 years. This makes more sense to me. Beckham may be on the fast trach to Chicago, but not in 2009, when he hasn't even played more than a month or two in the minors. Plus the fact folks seem to think he will be switching field positions.
  23. I tell you one thing everytime he came out to pitch a game he showed talent. I really enjoyed watching John Danks pitch
  24. Chris Getz of our own Chisox farm system maybe?
