QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 06:16 PM) I see so many people suggesting that calling up Getz or releasing Uribe is the way to go. Unless our two "main" players get it going, I can't see this team making the playoffs. I don't think KW or Ozzie will stop playing those two guys. Uribe is not the problem with this team that's for certain. Or at least the only one

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 06:37 PM) The Sox are in first place in June, and the biggest reason in the rotation. So to answer your question, unless the trade is a huge steal for the Sox, no. Took the words right out of my post. Our strength lies in our pitching, but yet some are ready to trade our strongest part for some role player. Doesn't make sense to me. Also that we are ready for a fire sale when we are in first place?!

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 2, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) thank you. Ozzie was pissed and I don't blame him but this was a very close series against one of the hottest teams in the league. This after taking 2 of 3 against a division rival on the road. I was hoping for a split. They had great chances to get that and more, just didn't happen. That was my hope too and I guess we were at least in a position to get that split. It really hurts to lose 2 games by a walk off homer off a bullpen that has been really stingy this year.

Wise was DFA and my guess that's the only move we make. Ozzie is spanked behind closed doors by KW and Ozzie apologizes saying he was just trying to stir things up and wake up the players. That's my guess. All the moves being speculated on don't really impact anything other than tear apart the bench. The bench is not the problem it is a number of starting big name players not producing. Does anyone really think that on June 2nd we can trade Konerko, Thome, Swisher, Uribe, Crede, Cabrera, Ozuna, etc, etc, etc, et al, et al, and get value in position players who will perform better? Ozzie is sparking again and that's it. Now is it possible Greg Walker is the scapegoat for underperforming veterans and gets the axe? That will happen before you see a fire sale being conducted by a team in 1st place in the AL Central. Keep that in mind everyone... we are in 1st place! Everyone is frustrated by the lack of production and my guess none more so than the players themselves. They are really the only ones that can change things around and I think that is the impetus behind Ozzie's rant. I am looking forward to Tuesday's game and if we perform better offensively this will all blow over including the expletive laden ranting of our manager. Bless him for he knows not what he does sometimes, or does he?

The Ozzie rant made it on ESPN and they had this comment, "They are a first place team right?" He is mad at the offense, but you have to believe the big bats will come through. I saw the highlights only of that last inning where Thome hustled all out for a double and gets to third only to be stranded for the lack of the flyball with less than 2 out and then a K.

My guess is nothing happens and he tones down in the next 24 hrs

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 07:51 PM) so 3 of his 8 hits a month are home runs. this team doesnt need another 20 homerun guy. it needs someone who might be a table setter. and Juan isnt it. That's not his role and remember about 6 other guys in the lineup today can be thought of that way too. It's the hitting slump I tell you.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) I'm sick of Hawk Harrleson making it sound as if every pitcher the Sox face has such tremendous stuff that day. Their all Cy Youngs when he talks about them. However, if you really want to be sickened about a home town announcer (s) just listen to the Rays guys

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) I agree with this but I'm doubting anything is actually going to be done about it. We've been awful for 2 years now. I bet they'll just stick with same old s***. Conventional wisdom tells you it's a coaching problem, but these guys are veteran players too for the most part and should know how to hit in clutch situations. Maybe they just don't have it anymore? One baseball reporter said Thome can't catch up with the fastball anymore. I just don't know what to think anymore.

I don't think it's anything magical. BA deserves a chace out there in CF and I am thinking Swisher needs some bench time to get himself straightened out.
-
Paul Konerko is a team leader and admited his injury. It seems as if a discussion has been held on his hand and he did sit out some time, but I don't think PK deceived Ozzie on his injury problem. I think he will break out of this slump soon and we have seen some pretty good at bats from him.

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 12:05 AM) I just cried a little reading that... On a positive note i just met a scout at work today from the Sox and he had a world series ring. I almost showed tears of joy this time. You must be very emotional. I see us still in first place and have to believe we won't be this pathetic offensively forever.

Maybe we should start a wager on how low the batting averages of Konerko, Thome and Swisher can go before they bottom out? But, if we beat the Rays on Sunday we split the 4 games on their turf and that ain't bad. But our offense does suck pretty bad.
