A quality lefty reliever like Billy Wagner makes more sense, but only at the right price. We have an excellent team right now and trading away our young talewnt isn't the way to go. KC did that a couple years ago and have went downhill since.

GAME THREAD 7-3-2005 SOX vs A's

Dye makes Zito work with 10 or 11 pitches and then homers. Not that's a hitter!! -
GAME THREAD 7-3-2005 SOX vs A's

Just logged on Soxtalk groupies. I see the Big Hurt put a hurt into one of Zito's pitches and that Buerhle is doing his thing. -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 03:26 AM) isnt garland due for arbitration at the end of the season not end of his contract? I thought Jon signed a 3 year contract? or was it one year?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 05:19 AM) Wow, we really only had 4 hits? God damn, this last week or two has been just like the last few years. Score a lot once in a while on homers, and get embarrassed in the others. The only difference is great pitching, which has won us a lot of those games. I hope I wake up tomorrow to the news that KW has made some big move. Ugh, this f***ing sucks. Why all the gloom? We are 9.5 games up with the best record in baseball and we want to execute the usual suspects. We don't need any blockbuster trades. What we need is to get those two Cuban pitchers straightened out. Ozziie has the Coopmeister working on a plan I hope. last night was like a butcher at work on the mound. Contreras has a fragility about him that is very troubling and if everything isn't just right with him then last night is what you see.
-
Joe Crede wasn't the problem last night nor has he been in the past. The problem on Friday night was the melt down of Contreras. Something is out of sinc with this guy and he needs either a bullpen assignment or lots of side work with Cooper. Jose has shown some real good pitching and then all of a sudden he just goes to pot. Last night was horrible.

Contreras has pitched some real good games and then all of a sudden he has looked like a little league pitcher. Last night with 3 WP's and 7 walks just shows how fragile this guy is as far as consistency. He seems to be one where, if he isn't just right with everything then he falls apart. Let's hope we see this guy get turned around here by the third week of July at the latest, or I agree we need someone else. I am not convinced yet that McCarthy is the answer either simply becasue of his inexperience. Brandon has been rocked for 8 homers already.

They were released for a reason and it's because they suck. However, lefties are in demand and there is a remote possibility Stanton might be better than Walker. I guess you should never say never.

You have to admire the Captain of a sinking ship as he stays with it all the way to the bottom.

Paul Konerko Will Sign With The Sox???
elrockinMT replied to Southside hitmen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) spend it on who, exactly? konerko's been killing us with his 30 homer, 100 RBI seasons for awhile now, and i want to get rid of him too. Yes, exactly. We don't need a 30-40 homer a year guy with 100+ RBI's, who is becoming the team leader. Let's all clamor to break up the Sox and go with a bunch of cheap free agents. I think we need to be careful of what we wish for because we just might get it and next year be wallowing in the basement of the AL Central. -

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) Sounds like an opinion to me.. hopefully a wrong one. Steff, You don't want the Sox to sign up Konerko? I hope they do sign him to another contract. -
I usually don't brag, but I told Freddie in a thread here that he needed to bear down from the start of the game and get people out. I also urged the Sox hitters to produce. Thank you very much...

6/30 - Sox vs. Tigers Game Thread 12pm CT
elrockinMT replied to Spiff's topic in 2005 Season in Review
The offense has not been producing lately and every run given up by one of our pitchers is magnified. If it werent for Koerko and Thomas last night we would have been a one run loss. Freddie needs to really bear down today and hope these hitters finally figure it out. -

Pitch inside and bear down Freddie. You keep letting them get there hits and eventually you will pay for it. -

He has sucked for awhile, but all hitters go into slumps and this is Frank's time it appears. A game or two down the road and he may be our hottest hitter. -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) Excuses people, let's hear em. What did I miss? Excuses for what? The Sox are a good team playing aggressive ball and the breaks go the way of those that play hard. -
I am expecting better than his last couple starts. I am hoping that his exposure to the quick pace set by Buerhle and Garland and Garcia made an impression. I fully expect his 1st win.

Putting a freeze on the Meltdown talk
elrockinMT replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't understand any talk ofa meltdown either, and never even considered it. We have a 9.5 game lead on the Twinkies. We have lost 2 or 3 games in arow before and always rebound. You lose games. Obviously, as much as we would like, you can't win 162 in a season. I am probbaly maddest about Contreras and his screwing around in the 1st inning on Saturday. You have to be primed for a game from the 1st batter on. Garcia admitted after one game where he was banged around in the 1st inning that he came in flat and maybe felt a but lazy. However, he has come out lately firing. Jose can learn something too. -
Contreras takes way too much time to deliver a pitch with runners on base. He apparently tips his pitches also and suffers for that from time to time. It was apparent he didn't have much to offer yesterday when he walks 2 and hits 3 and as usual can't get out of the 1st ining without giving up a bunch of runs. There have been many times he looks almost unhittable, but starts slow. El Duque does the same thing from time to time. It's like they aren't ready for the game abd play soft toss. They need to get motivated before the game starts and bear down right away.
