  1. QUOTE(chisoxtime @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 12:18 AM) You piece of s***!!! Who and what is this character?
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) Most everyone else seems to be able to handle it... You would think especially Thomas would know better. Heck the words "no comment" always work. Actually they tell you in Media Relations classes never to say "no comment." It don't look good and the press will then make up what ever they want. They might of in this case anyway.
  3. We won the game and still have the best record in baseball. Willie Harris gets to play maybe one or two games a week and we expect him to homer every at bat? Let's support our players a bit more than that please. When the Sox don't perform well there is plenty of blame to go around and when they win there is plenty of praise to go around. One player doesn't make or break the team. It's a team effort and this team plays well together. Willie has contributed to the success of the Sox.
  4. I think you need to take the comments of Thomas in the context of how they were given: Comparing teams from 1993 and 2005 really doesn't mean anything much because you are playing and competing against teams this season and all you have to do is beat them, not the competition from 1993. We are doing that! Nevin on the other hand doesn't know anything about this team since he plays in the NL and his comments are not worth any real concern or even legitimacy since we only play then 3 times. We have a 1-1 record against another 1st place team and one left to play. That's all and nothing more. We can compete against anyone and have shown that.
  5. A two strike pitch of some type in the dirt seems to get a lot of our hitters this year. They do seem to take more pitches, which can be both good and bad. On one hand they let a good fastball down the middle go right by them, and then work the count and strike out on a pitch in the dirt. But they make good pitchers throw a lot of pitches which lets us get into the other teams bullpen by the 6th or 7th inning. Last night was pretty distressing though when we have runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs and K three times. I am not a big leagure player, so I am not going to second guess our hitters or the manager, but I am sure waiting to see what happens when the Big Hurt can get back in there at DH full-time.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 11, 2005 -> 06:58 AM) Was he the starter at 1B before Tommy McCraw? YASNY, I don't like it when Nuke makes fun of us original fans. But, I think Jesus was the IB guy just before Earl Torgeson and Moose Skowron wasn't he?
  7. I have been trying to confirm the game being on ESPN for Monday, but all I see is some scrub game between Atlanta and Texas being listed on ESPN. Please direct me to your information source. I would be thrilled to see the game Monday. I do know we are on tonight over WGN from San Diego. Mark Buerhle is pitching.
  8. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) Viz has a good fastball...if only he knew this. I saw both Viz and Shingo while in Denver for the games. Viz looked real good and was popping it in there at around 93. He needs to rely more on that fast ball I agree. Shingo struck out two lefties , walked a batter and gave up a homer to alefty on one of his soft tosses. He also k'd a righty and had him so fooled on a swinging strike 3 that the hitter lost his bat and it went sailing into the stands. He looked good when he used his fastball, that once hit 89 MPH, to set up the hitter and the slow curve as the out pitch. He has been using that slow stuff way to often to the batter and they expect it now.
  9. 1959. I remember watching TV during the World Series and seeing Ted Kluzewski homer, one of two he hit in game one and the Sox won 11-0. Nellie Fox was my hero and my first little league baseball glove was a Nellie Fox model.
  10. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) What did you end up doing in the area, any good spots I should know about? We stayed at the Red Lion Hotel-Downtown. It is right next to Invesco Field and they had a complimentary shuttle to take you to the ballpark and pick you up afterwards. That area around the park is full of nice sports bars and places to eat. We had a great meal at the Denver Chop House and Brewery, which is only about 2-3 blocks from the park. Went to the Denver Zoo and ended up there for over 4 hours. Lots of fun. Only had 1 full day to take in any attractions.
  11. QUOTE(sayitanitso @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 04:30 AM) How was Coors Field? It looked real nice on TV. And real empty to. Coors is a beautiful field, but as you said even with 20K plus it looked empty. People there were saying that the ball club resembles a AAA club now and it will be awhile till they can produce a winner again. I think the only real star they have left is Helton, and maybe Wilson.
  12. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 02:34 AM) So glad you had a great time. You Montana guys don't get much of a chance to see the Sox live and in person. I was wondering if you saw the Thomas HR, good for you, that's fantastic. After I saw Frank hit that bomb I told my wife I could die happy now. The only thing I asked her to do was wait a coule days after the funeral before spending my insurance money and hooking up with a young stud.
  13. QUOTE(robin_ventura_eternal @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 02:34 AM) poor rockies fans. they might as well cheer for the sox, the rockies are just so downright horrible this year. It kind of made you feel bad for the Rockies team to hear fans start chanting "Go Broncos" in the 8th and 9th as the Sox poured it on. People were yelling at the Rockies that they would get the same cheers they were giving the Sox, if they were really a winning ball club. However, as a Sox fan I was loving the offensive show.
  14. QUOTE(TLAK @ Jun 10, 2005 -> 02:30 AM) The papers say Frank got a standing O, even from the Rox fans. Standing ovation even when they just announced him as the PH and then it went wild after he hit that homer. Goose bumps man!
  15. Fellow Soxtalk fans: The games were simply the best. Tuesday night was a pitchers duel. Contreras pitched a great game, but the pitcher who impressed me the most was Cotts. The kid was simply lights out for 2 relief innings. He K'd four and the other two couldn't get the ball past the picthers mound. Neal was absolutely superb. Wed night was a blow out. My biggest thrill was seeing the Big Hurt hit that mammoth pinch hit homer. You have to remember this is my first time of seeing Frank other than on TV. The Rockies fans were cheering for the Big Hurt to bat and when Crede delivered that homer you just knew Frank was ready to do something too. The fans were clapping and yeling for the Sox and the Big Hurt. Frank launched one into the CF area and the crowd went cracy for the Sox and Big Hurt. Politte getting that "fake bunt then swing away" hit was something else to see. What a total surprise to the Rockies infield. The RF then threw the ball towards third and hit the 2B umpire knocking him to the ground. What a play that was to see. I really liked Shingo though. He gave up another homer and his slow stuff, but after that it was like, "use my fastball to set the slow curve up" thought process and he K'd the side. You could tell he was needing a dose of confidence.
  16. I am driving from Billings, MT, to Denver to watch the games on Tuesday and Wednesday. I have been a fan since 1959. I'll be behind home plate and up a bit just to the left side. Maybe I'll see you there?
  17. The guy has arm problems and is making $2.6M a year. He also has an attitude problem. Not sure he is a good fit.
  18. Probably just as easy to homer at US Cellular than it is at Coors. I think the team will continue to play their game and receive good pitching. I hope that we win all three because I am driving to Denver just to see the Sox play. Only regret I have is that Frank will most likely just be a pinch hitter. I'll be fine with that too, if he puts one out.
  19. I can only echo what the others here have said. There is absolutely nothing from the Big Hurt to justify this article. He has been open and honest and comes across as a team player. Now some journalist has to stir things up with a negative take on the situation with Frank and Carl. Heck even Carl has come across as saying how he just wants to win one for the team.
  20. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:48 AM) I think Brantley was being sarcastic by saying he did not know Hermy could get a LH out. In some sense, he was taking a shot at the Ozzie for MOnday again What he seems to conveniently forget is the Sox won that game Monday and that's all that counts in the standings.
  21. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) He's fine in the OF... No he's not! He's really good at 1B but he is a lot like Everett in the OF. Not good I say.
  22. The word I am getting is that Timo goes to AAA. We have too many OF'ers on the roster as it is now. That is the reason Ozzie had him play IB to rest Paulie, but Frank will now be the DH and occassional IB man.
  23. I guess the Sox like Kevin Walker. I see him as a one inning relief pitcher who doesn't usually hit more than 90 MPH with his fastball. He didn't look good Wed, but inactivity will do that I reckon. At least one inning is 2/3rd more than Kelly Wunsch though. Best place is in AAA and getting some work.
  24. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 12:35 AM) That's like asking a leopard to change its spots, or like teaching a dog new tricks, or like Crede not sucking (As he makes yet another out). He'd be looking a lot better if it weren't for you-know-who. HIS NEMESIS
  25. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) Tallet is not making his MLB debut. Against us maybe?!
