  1. This team is not playing good baseball lately. We have blown way too mnay in the late innings and at other times this offense sputters like an old chevy.
  2. Are you listening to DJ and Hawk? After yesterday's game I have to give them both duds of the year awards. I couldn't stand their constant BS about how great Munoz will be in the future and how most of the time when a bater hits the ball hard it's right at someone except yesterday.
  3. We just lost! :fyou Expos and interleague play
  4. Vidro gets the Expos and his 2nd hit of the game. It seems that it's always that one guy we can't get out in these close games.
  5. Carlos Lee 0-10 in his last 2 games. 1000 game hit streak to nothing shows how fickle the game is.
  6. Jon Garland is on fire! I may be asking something already posted somewhere back there, but I was wondering what the word was on Joe Crede and his possible injury from last night?
  7. Logged on in top of the 8th just in time to see Uribe GIDP. Garland has given up only one hit! This is the type of pitching we knew Jon was capable of showing. I just hope this offense comes alive and gives him the win! How can you go from 17-14 one day to 2-2 the next? I know the answer, but must ask it anyway.
  8. Sox keep it rolling Berry sparks club with bat, glove as team moves to 2-0 on season By SCOTT MANSCH Tribune Asst. Sports Editor -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRIBUNE PHOTO BY LAILANI UPHAM O'DONNELL Great Falls base runner Berry Boomer slides into home Saturday in the White Sox's game against the Missoula Osprey at Legion Park. Boomer Berry didn't think his performance Saturday night was anything spectacular. "That's what I'm supposed to do as a leadoff hitter," he said after reaching base three times and scoring a run as the Great Falls White Sox defeated the Missoula Osprey 5-3 in a Pioneer League game. The son of former major-leaguer Ken Berry also sparkled defensively, turning in a diving stop and contributing to a pair of double plays as the White Sox won in crisp fashion before a crowd of 2,865. "Playing well defensively, that's what we have to do," Berry said. "Melvin Perez really had a great game at third base." The White Sox improved to 2-0 on the season thanks to errorless defense, efficient relief pitching and a three-run third inning. "It was the kind of win that will make us come together as a team," said catcher Matt Deuchler, whose RBI single capped the third-inning uprising and brought the Sox back from an early 2-0 deficit. "We got good pitching and good defense, and that's what you need." Perez displayed soft hands on several key plays at third and Berry made a superb diving stop to short-circuit a Missoula rally in the sixth as Great Falls defeated manager Jim Presley's Osprey for the second night in a row at Legion Park. "We didn't give them any extra outs," said Great Falls skipper John Orton. "It was another good game for us." The Osprey got a two-run double by Wilkin Castillo in the top of the third inning, but the White Sox answered in the home half of the frame. Perez singled and Jhonny Rivera skied a deep blast to left-center that caromed off the wall for a triple. The swift Rivera ran through the stop sign at third, though, and was tagged out. "I'll take the blame for that one," Orton said. "Miscommunication. I was watching the play and didn't realize he was right on top of me." Berry then singled, and Derrick McNeil sacrificed. Deuchler's single tied the game, and Chris Kelly later delivered an RBI hit of his own. Great Falls added an unearned run in the fourth when, after two outs, the Osprey made three quick errors -- two by shortstop Juan Olivares. It was the kind of defensive lapse that hasn't affected the White Sox yet this season. Starter Sony Suarez made the lead stand up, although he yielded a run in the sixth on Javier Brito's run-scoring single. "He walked the first hitter he faced in the third, but that was the only thing I didn't like about his performance," said Great Falls pitching coach Richard Dotson. "He threw a lot of strikes." So did the bullpen. J.D. Johnson worked an inning of hitless relief, thanks in part to Berry's sparkling play to rob Ricardo Sosa of a hit in the sixth. Lefty Sean Thompson came on for the Sox in the seventh, and immediately benefited as Berry turned Francisco Rodriguez's one-on, one-out liner into a double play. In the eighth, Missoula's Castillo led off with a perfect bunt single. But Matos grounded sharply to Perez, and the slick-fielding third baseman turned it into an around-the-horn double play. Right-hander Matt Zaleski, a 30th-round pick in the recent draft out of Indiana State, made his first professional appearance a memorable one by striking out the side in the ninth en route to the save. "All our relievers did the job," said Dotson. Kelly, who had three hits and two RBIs as Great Falls won its season opener on Friday, had two hits and two more RBIs on Saturday. The teams conclude the series this afternoon at 4 at Legion Park. NOTES: It's Tribune Family Day at the ballpark today. A coupon from the newspaper enables a family of four to get into the game, plus receive four hot dogs and four soft drinks for a total of $10 ... Travis Doyle, a left-hander from Grand Rapids (Mich.) CC who was a 22nd-round pick in the 2003 draft, is scheduled to make the start for the White Sox.
  9. Sox sock it to Osprey Logan goes six strong innings for win in season-opener By MIKE TOWNE Tribune Sports Writer -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRIBUNE PHOTO BY WAYNE ARNST Great Falls White Sox Tom Collaro, center, is congratulated by teammates after hitting a home run against the Missoula Osprey in season-opening action at Legion Park Friday. Chris Kelly had just come up one hit short of the cycle, collecting a single, double and home run in five at-bats. In his mind, however, several other players made the difference in the Great Falls White Sox's 7-2 season-opening victory over the Missoula Osprey before 3,286 fans at Legion Park Friday night. "Boone (Logan) threw great. He had a low pitch count," said Kelly, the White Sox first baseman. "And that was a big home run by (Tom) Collaro. He got the offense going. One big hit will get a lot of teams going." Logan, a left-hander who is one of 11 players who saw action in Great Falls last summer, pitched six solid innings as he beat Missoula for the third time. He threw 68 pitches, allowing one run on six hits while striking out two and walking none. Collaro's homer, on the first pitch by righthander Tim Vaillancourt in the second inning, gave Great Falls a 1-0 advantage. Kelly belted a two-run shot in the fifth extending the White Sox's lead to 4-0. Missoula scored single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to pull within two, but Great Falls pushed across three runs in its half of the eighth. Great Falls had a pair of hits, a double by Scott Martin and a single by Derek McNeil, plus a sacrifice fly by Donny Lucy, and took advantage of Missoula's only two errors. Right-hander Jeff Little, the second of two Sox relievers, retired the Osprey in order in the ninth. "We're pretty solid defensively all the way around," Kelly added. "And we're pretty solid offensively. "We have talent. I like the guys from last year and the new draftees. I'm excited to see the new pitchers and position guys." Great Falls commited just one error, a throwing miscue by shortstop McNeil in the second inning. He played well from then on, however, while both center fielder Jhonny Rivera and second baseman Boomer Berry had solid defensive games. What about the offensive performance of Kelly, who hit .245 with four home runs and 40 RBIs in Great Falls last season? "I just play. I do what I can," he said. "I feel great. I usually start 1-for-10 or 0-for-15. I hope this will keep going, but Tommy's (Collaro) the man." Good things were expected of Logan, who was 3-3 with a 6.58 earned run average in Great Falls last summer, and he delivered. "I stayed in the zone, and I stayed concentrated. I was solid all the way through," he said. "I let the defense work behind me. "I threw a lot of strikes and got ahead of the hitters. I located my fastball, and my changeup helped in a big way." Logan wasn't surprised by the offensive support. "I played with most of the guys in extended (spring training), and there was no doubt we would get some runs. Just give these guys a chance, and they'll hit." Seven White Sox combined for 11 hits off three Missoula pitchers, Kelly leading the way with three and Berry and Lucy chipping in two each. Neither Matt Deuchler nor Melvin Perez had a hit, but both drew a pair of walks and Deuchler scored a run. The season-opening effort had Great Falls manager John Orton feeling pretty good afterward. "It was a great game all the way around, pretty close to the way you want to start," he said. "Hopefully, we can continue that type of play. "Logan threw six great innings, and Kelly hit the ball hard. Everyone had good at-bats," Orton added. He was pleased to see the Sox execute a couple of successful hit-and-runs, as well as take advantage of some Opsrey mistakes in the eighth inning. Matt Nachreiner, in relief of Logan, walked two batters in both the seventh and eighth innings. He worked out of both jams, however, getting Jayson Santiago to ground out to McNeil for the final out of the seventh and then striking out Ricardo Sosa for the final out of the eighth. Little got two ground-ball outs before striking out Francisco Rodriguez to end the game. "The relievers did a good job. You need that to be a winning team," Orton said. "You're going to have to rely on your bullpen a lot." "It's a good start," Kelly concluded. "We're going to have a good time here this summer." Santiago had three straight singles before grounding out in his final at-bat. He scored following his third single, on a double by Miguel Matos. Missoula's only other run came in the eighth inning. Wilkin Castillo walked with one out, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored when Travis Gulick grounded out to McNeil. Gulick finished with two hits for Missoula. Gulick had the only other hit for the Osprey. NOTES: The second game of the scheduled three-game set starts tonight at 7. Missoula righthander Derik Nippert is scheduled to face Great Falls righthander Sony Suarez. ... It will be KRTV Fireworks/Pizza Hut Poster night at Legion Park. A fireworks show will follow the game. Email this story Originally published Saturday, June 19, 2004
  10. Game is on WGN tonight at 5:00 PM MDT. I'll be there in front of the tube. I am really looking forward to seeing Munoz.
  11. Why would we want someone who just got the boot from another team? We aren't in that desperate of a situation yet. Hopefully Munoz steps up or our next option might be Joel Horlen or Gary Peters.
  12. After his record hitting streak he has gone hitless in his last two games and has been striking out as much as Jose V. I think we need to trade him while there is still a market for him.
  13. There are no words to describe this dung! The lead off walk, a SB a productive flyball out and a 2 strike groove to a no-namer and we lose another one.
  14. Politte can't find the strike zone. We are in BIG trouble
  15. Damaso is really showing some style tonight. He has come back to get these guys after what for some pitchers would be issuing the sure walk.
  16. I think he is a keeper too, but he is the type of hitter that Greg Walker must work with all the time. He also must get it through his head that he has to listen to Walker to improve.
  17. I am afraid he is starting to come back to Earth after tearing the place apart this year.
  18. We are forgetting that they have never faced these guys before. 1 run in 18 innings.
  19. Just to echo everyone else: SHINGO IS THE MAN! You will need a microscope to see his ERA soon.
  20. How did Shingo record that last out? Groundout?
  21. It's still stuck on A-Rows at bat. I am staying here for now
  22. Yes, yes I have. I can only get MLB Game Day and it freezes up quite a bit. By the time I post you guys are way ahead of me. IT SUCKS!
  23. SOX!!! Kelly D with a hit to the pitcher
  24. Olivo shows patience and a good eye o walk with the sacks packed. Sox lead!Last year Miguel wouldn't have done that IMO
