Chi Sox @ Bo Sox 6:10 First Pitch
It did set up Steve for the very funny reply, "only in ClownTown" a little while back

No joy.

IMO, Grichuk is playing for his job (or should be)

1st changeup of the inning, first one for a strike since the leadoff hitter and what do you know, a double play!

Chi Sox @ Bo Sox 6:10 First Pitch
If I was Davis I'd be throwing my changeup as much as I could in hopes of getting the release on it. It's like a live bullpen the rest of the way, see if you can get something useful out of it.

Tough for Miguel today. Couple pitches just nipping the zone. Makes sense to burn it there because you don't know if you're going to get another opportunity.

You have now seen Doyle do something that Peters can't do.

Looks out to me.

Davis is going to have plenty of leeway to try to find it in this outing. Step 1 will be him needing to know the difference between the lucky hits and the nukes.

Davis gave up a double on a changeup to Sogard, but of course the ball was hit in such a way that it would have been caught for an out in 29 parks. But that scared Davis badly enough that he gave up on his best weapon against lefties for the rest of the inning.

You could say that Sandoval can just drop it and force the double play either way...but I don't think he was going to do that

Frankly, the worst Davis pitches, the more my attitude becomes "resistance is futile" with regard to the deadline. Team isn't built for you to be picking up a replacement for Davis Martin. I think my attitude about Griffin is that he's been good, although not as good as the 3.05 or whatever ERA suggests. And it's fair to wonder whether he can keep it given the lack of track record. But yeah, the expectation for Davis should have been that he would not continue to be a high 2 ERA guy. Not sure what a good expectation for him is right now

Well he's gonna be whatever he's gonna be. He's gonna be one of the 5 it seems, unless he's hurt. Sox can decide whether he makes a playoff start when/if the time comes.

And IMO, Davis pitching like crap has nothing to do with the deadline. Davis was always going to be in the rotation unless the Sox added 4 starters.

Chi Sox @ Bo Sox 6:10 First Pitch
No idea why he was throwing a slider to Duran there.

Chi Sox @ Bo Sox 6:10 First Pitch
Really no well hit balls until they started getting real well hit. Wasted what should have been a free out from Rafaela.

Baseball remains unfair

Chi Sox @ Bo Sox 6:10 First Pitch
First guy got on only thanks to the monster BTW. That's caught in every other ballpark if you hit it that far towards CF

Made the pitch, but no joy.

Chi Sox @ Bo Sox 6:10 First Pitch
Roll em up here Davis and we'll pretend none of this happened

Sox acquire Brenton Doyle - trade Adams and Carlos Vielma (SS)
Doyle seems to have the physical talent to be a good-to-great player and has played at a reasonably high level before. But you have got to squint way too hard at the numbers to find a data-based case for why he's actually been playing well or was clearly about to start playing well. If he does well for the Sox, I'm 100% chalking it up to coaching and not that the breakout was clearly inevitable.

Carlos Vielma was my favorite player!

Guardians get Foster Griffin
To some extent, it's like when you're losing but you get the opposing team to burn their closer. If the Guardians come back and take the division, too bad. But that's what they were always supposed to do. At least we make them sweat and spend a little capital on the way there. But by the way, we're in the lead right now.

Everson Pereira DFA'd
Can't say that I understand it, but okay. I also can't say that I was highly confident that at the end of the season I'd have been saying "thank god we have Everson Pereira on this team"
