  1. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 04:30 PM) you say those as if they are bad. Maybe bad for inner city Chicago, but not in other areas. Those numbers look similar to the pay scale in the town I grew up in. I'm just saying what it is, I was surprised CPS made so much more. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 06:37 PM) I don't really like how in the media and in discussions everybody just assumes this is about teachers wanting more money. Typical attitude towards striking workers any time, though. That attitude in general will hold back progress in getting good compensation for workers. At least elucidate the facts like most of us are trying to in this thread. Sometimes the workers won't be in the right, sometimes they will. Sometimes it will be a matter of philosophical differences.
  2. We're due for another 10+ game winning streak.
  3. Like it or not, it's specialized labor that requires a good deal of education and is also essential to our society. I can't evaluate every individual area's teacher grievances, but comparing it to other professions doesn't make sense. I will say that the district where I'm from pays much less than CPS apparently. It is probably also much easier to each where I'm from than CPS, and living costs are way lower. That said, starting salary for a teacher with a BA where I am from is 30k. A 20 year tenured teacher with a masters make roughly 75k. Administrators make about 100 (principal, superintendent). I plan to teach in college, talk about some yummy hours, pay, benefits, vacations. The 10 years of college and the fact I'll be able to do things that nobody else can will make it all worth it though
  4. Pay them more, allow principals/administrators to fire people. Done and done.
  5. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 12:22 PM) Just out of curiosity, what do you think Romney's campaign could do differently? Find a new candidate
  6. If you increase the work day, you have to expect to increase pay by a similar proportion
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 8, 2012 -> 06:29 AM) Correct. When I set it up, I had the Sox going 31-23 and the Tigers 33-21 in the final 54 games to tie at 91-71. They were going ok for a while, but neither team is playing very well. The Sox are leading the division with the 7th best record in the AL. The AL Central: Where you can play bad baseball and be treated like a Champion. The poor records are an effect of the divisional depth
  8. You can thank Alexei for Olmedo playing today
  9. ADA can't strike out there... All on you now Ray!
  10. ADA can't strike out there... All on you now Ray!
  11. GREAT job by ADA to stick with it on the suicide
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 04:35 PM) Wow... WHY WHY WHY do you give him an offspeed pitch? I believe the common thought is that Gordon can't hit any pitches
  13. Gordon employing the "eyes closed" pitch selection method. We'll see how this goes
  14. Someone tell CSN not to use that goddamned behind the catcher view.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 04:30 PM) Hudson is our best option to PH for Lopez? LOL. Great bench there, KW. Who is supposed to be on the bench? We've used everyone and there's that whole thing about bench players and why they aren't starters...
  16. Maybe Holland wants to do his best Jose Valverde impression. Without all the game delay
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) Yes, he's terrible now 20 of 25 appearances have been scoreless. He's only given up runs to a non-Royals opponent twice. A week or two ago he was our only reliable reliever. With the standards we have here, we wouldn't pitch anybody in late innings.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) Relegate him to long relief. Myers?
  19. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 04:20 PM) And now we need 3 runs in the bottom of the 10th. 2?
  20. Ha, doesn't get his game finished
  21. Myers and the Royals are the opposite of Guthrie and the White Sox
