  1. Regarding Caulfield's post, I'm going to go ahead and err on the side of Ozzie not having actual vendettas against young players. I think he was just a poor talent evaluator. I'm guessing that his personal philosophy values experience too highly and it made him almost unwittingly hold back young players. The player that I still think he completely f***ed over was Brian Anderson. He had a horrid first half in that first season as a starter, but his second half was getting much better. Ozzie, though, was insistent on playing Rob Mackowiak at least 3 times a week. Anderson spent the entire season never getting more than 2-3 starts in a row and I can only imagine how hard it is to find an offensive rhythm or stay consistent with anything you're working on when you are habitually missing 30% of your at bats. Even so, the kid batted .250 in that second half but never was seen as a real full time option ever again. Now he's 31 which seems crazy because I still think of him as a young guy...
  2. While DV's walk rate hasn't really risen, he's gotten more selective. He's swinging at less bulls*** that results in soft contact and his two strike approach is notably different...I haven't looked to verify but it seems like he just doesn't strike out anymore. If DV has two more weeks like his previous two, he'd make the damn All-Star team. That's crazy. I hope he has a lot more runs like this throughout his career.
  3. It would really surprise me if we don't at least contend to the end, provided we stay pretty healthy. Even when we weren't playing well, I could see that this was possible. I don't think guys like DV and GB are going to sink to sub-MLB levels again. I also expect the rotation to get better as Danks heals up and Philip and Gavin get things back together.
  4. This board is conspicuously optimistic
  5. I can't stand Ed Farmer and it just ruins the radio broadcast for me, especially since DJ has little to offer as far as describing the game or interacting with such a moron. I was very sad to see DJ go since it did seem like he and Hawk had finally got things rolling. I've liked this run with Wimpy but there is a certain blandness to him. Not so much that he doesn't have personality, but that he doesn't say much of substance. This may just be because he's been out of the booth and doesn't follow the White Sox though.
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 29, 2012 -> 09:26 PM) It was a dig at Hawk and Melton. If it makes you feel better, I thought it was hilarious. Even read it out loud to the person I was watching the game with. Might even have taken credit for it.
  7. It's really hard to turn strong emotion into results in baseball. It almost always is counterproductive.
  8. Mark Kotsay, the best fielding DH in White Sox history
  9. s***, if Tank doesn't want to slow down he could make a very improbable run at an All-Star spot
  10. Wouldn't shock me if AJ gets drilled
  11. QUOTE (Baron @ May 29, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) Right...I mean you have some guys hitting average. But then just massive holes follow those guys. Hard to win with that. But they have been They haven't been in need of many runs to win
  12. Without PK hitting, this offense can't score
  13. Paul Konerko is such an all-defense, no bat player EDIT: fuuuuuu fathom
  14. This team has really been coming through...it's nice.
  15. I'd venture to guess that we will win this game.
  16. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 29, 2012 -> 07:54 PM) I think you all meant Tanks. Him and Sales are the future of this organization. Reminds me of that legend, Kerry Woods
  17. f*** yeah!!!
  18. Dayan Viciedo folks
  19. AJ used to be so useless with men in scoring position
  20. Well, they found Paulie's hole
  21. Would really like to see Phil stay away from the middle
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2012 -> 07:38 PM) Will Ohman Kerry Wood
