  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 11:42 AM) Yeah not really, he played in the majors before we got him. He is a Marlins prospect. Marlins got him from Rule 5 from the Dodgers. Is he a Dodgers prospect? He was a waiver claim, I'm putting him with the Quintanas and Septimos of the world. Since he had to produce in our MiLB to get a shot to be a major leaguer, I consider him our own find. If he was truly a "prospect" to the Marlins he wouldn't have been given away.
  2. QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 11:01 AM) De Aza? Really? But yes, otherwise I agree. He played on our farm, we had to coach him in the minors as well as decide if he was worth a shot on our MLB roster despite basically zero MLB time before that. I consider finds like that to be very much along the same lines as a good draft pick. Same thing as Jose Quintana, really
  3. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 11:02 AM) Because I can't help myself... Cowley on Sale That was so close to being completely right....and then it was completely wrong
  4. This is another prospect that we're better off taking our time with. Let him work on things like his eye, finding his power tool, refining defense, etc before getting to the MLB where it will likely be an all hands on deck approach just to survive.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 08:25 AM) Like research into syphilis for example. lol QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 08:30 AM) Who Drives Innovation? "Ian Cockburn"
  6. The trouble with costing a roster spot is that it is likely to be of detriment to other players' health, especially pitchers.
  7. pitching, defense, and longball!
  8. Sick changeup. Can't wait till an older Addison Reed can throw that at will.
  9. Probably not the right game to pull the plug on Reed prematurely
  10. These times are not for the faint of heart
  11. Very happy to see Addison using his changeup effectively.
  12. Yeah he should have mentioned some of the other homegrown talent on the roster like Sale, Ramirez, Viciedo, Beckham, De Aza, etc
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 09:21 PM) How dare you
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) I wonder if Ventura's going to go with Reed or let Thornton face Swisher and Cano? Funny thing is that I trust Veal more than anyone in the pen to get Cano out. Where is Septimo when you need him
  15. Damn, it's very hard to see the negative in Chris Sale.
  16. Stephen Strasburg called and said that Chris is a p**** if he doesn't go 8 tonight.
  17. Great pitch, has to keep using that changeup even if he can get by without it sometimes. I hope that's the last we see of Chris tonight.
  18. What has happened to Russell Martin's career?
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) What? Sox have always feasted off of guys who only throw fastballs. He has a moving fastball and likes to miss outside the strike zone. He's gotten by in this game based on our chasing pitcher's pitches
  20. Welcome back Alex Rivers
  21. Hughes has pretty good stuff and matches up well.
  22. "same f***ing pitch" says Youk
