  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2012 -> 05:13 PM) And hopefully this makes Reed the full-time closer I think this is a no-brainer. I was okay with the plan to move him along slowly, but now he's been in the fire. No use holding back anymore.
  2. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 11, 2012 -> 06:02 AM) The Sox really had no choice but to stick with him. There was essentially no chance to trade him because of the money he's owed and his health. However, I agree it would be nice if he offered a discount by say restructuring what he's owed into a multi-year deal. Wishful thinking, but you never know. If he's showing no signs of wear at ~150 innings, I'd probably consider proposing turning that 22 mill into 2 years. There is a huge problem if he has another significant injury in that time though -- it would probably be the final straw for KW if we weren't a playoff team at that point.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ May 11, 2012 -> 05:07 PM) I like it. Selfishly, I'd rather have Sale need TJS than to see him in the bullpen the next five years. He was drafted as a starter. He wants to start. Let him start, and see what happens. Going back to last week, they should have shut him down for two weeks. But whatever. Fresh start tomorrow. We'll say it was something like active rest. It's like he had one intense bullpen session and presumably some more relaxed ones in between. Would have sounded okay if we presented that as the plan all along.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 11, 2012 -> 04:46 AM) Pills that are supposed to block the seizures...and don't. No clue why. Doctor couldn't shed light on it. This stuff is tricky, a friend of mine struggled to do away with seizures for quite a while. He finally began to manage them with a mixture of medication and a sort of mental therapy -- he learned to "feel" them coming on and "block" them through sheer force of will, for lack of better term. This obviously wasn't the smoothest process but it did work over time and I occasionally will see him zoning out for a second and he tells me he was just focusing to turn off a seizure. Weird stuff. Best of luck.
  5. lol I'm not sure what to think of it, but I guess this was an interesting way to give him some extra rest.
  6. I am sure Kenny is thinking about this move. But I bet the price is about as high as Rogers is suggesting, and not even Kenny will go with that.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) Yeah this. Last year nobody cared because Dunn sucked. Now it is a big loss in the middle of the line up. Might as well give him a few token innings or something out there now so it isn't a complete shock to the system.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2012 -> 11:16 AM) If they can't deal him, or acquire another 4, they can always use the amnesty clause on him. Sounds like amnesty only makes sense if we can make a subsequent move to free up more cap space. Wonder what that would be. BTW, I've seen some other boards talk about Kirk Hinrich and I have to say he might fit. Two caveats: 1. Can he/will he run the point guard spot anymore? 2. Can we afford him? I wouldn't give him more than mid-level exception type of cash, maybe not that much You would then draft a point guard to be his backup while Derrick is out. Kirk would play more 2 once Derrick came back. I think he could make a great sixth man, but I haven't really seen him play for a while and there might be problems with cost:benefit. Any thoughts on this? ^^^ this doesn't put you over the top either, so you'd have to do something else as well. Anyone think we'd make a run at Steve Nash? On one hand it sounds attractive, but this dude has never played defense. Any other folks to keep an eye on in free agency, etc?
  9. APPRECIATE THE MOTHAf***IN GAME
  10. I'd be okay with risking Thornton for Youkilis... but Gavin Floyd? gtfo
  11. Tonight begins our big run. We've got this s***ty Royals team in town and we are going to whomp their asses to get back into contention. That pitching staff of theirs will be the perfect antidote for our offense. Tonight, we're running this guy out there: against this asshole
  12. Viciedo is one of the higher upside players out there.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2012 -> 09:20 PM) That's exactly what everyone spent years asking for the Sox to do. What they meant was, "draft a perennial all-star"
  14. I still don't buy Taj being better than Boozer. MAYBE if money is factored in. There are teams that would really involve him better and wouldn't bench him for entire games when he starts slow. I am not saying that we should change, but he's not a bad player. Unfortunately our offense never moves the ball and that's bad for post scorers.
  15. I feel let down by the coaching. How can the same mistake be made over and over and over? Do it junior high style and tell them they have to make x amount of passes before shooting if you have to. But CJ is probably at the top of my to blame list...I just wish the coaching didn't allow a backup player to cost us SO much.
  16. No reason for us to run away from Hawes there that was f***ing terrible
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 10, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) Watson is killing the bulls. That possession is unacceptable
  18. I've seen enough of Omer. Getting lazy on defense/rebounding and he just can't get his shot off or catch the ball on O
  19. Luol and Rip playing well that quarter, and we needed it. Philadelphia offense looking like ours has been there at the end. Come on guys, get to that Game 7!!!
  20. TV news is like the White Sox. You say, "I'm sick of all this doom and gloom!" and you get on Soxtalk and you complain about people complaining. You debate and tell them how everything is going to be alright, etc. Then we win and no one says much of anything. I've worked at a few different levels of TV news and everyone claims to be sick of doom and gloom. Several TV stations have dedicated themselves to an "all good news" sort of format and have flopped completely. No one wants to watch that s***. You can b**** all you want, but you only turn the TV on when you know something terrible has happened. It is YOUR fault. Just like the government...no one wants to pay taxes but everyone wants a nicer country/well-run government and you wonder why we can't fix our budget???
  21. You can rule out Stasburg, Heyward, and Posey. They had minimal track record when they got hurt, wouldn't be fair to call it a comeback. It's more or less Dunn v Peavy at this point in the AL.
  22. Is anyone going to give Peavy an expensive long-term deal with all the uncertainty about his health? I know his production has been great but people still have to feel a bit iffy about the one of a kind procedure holding his arm together.
