I would be shocked if we signed Hudson to be a one position backup player. You start him at third as a kind of trial, and bring Morel back after DL stint if need be. If Hudson plays well, you just demote Morel after the DL stint. If Hudson plays well and Beckham really regresses, you could give Morel some more AB's and platoon Beckham, sending down Lillibridge or Escobar.

If Hudson needs time to get practice in at 3B, that might keep him on the bench for a little while..but not long I'd think.

I'm guessing the Sox will say he's backup infielder until they DL Morel.

Nothing Brent Morel has done at the MLB level has convinced me he'll be a good major league ballplayer. He's had what, 800 at bats now? Not much production in there. If he has been hurt for over a year now, it seems unlikely he'll get healthy.
