  1. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:09 PM) Ha, it's not even that I'm making unlikely predictions. It just seems like certain things are inevitable, and that's why I believe if the fans feel a certain way -- so do the players. They all have it in their heads that everything and anything can go wrong at the Metrodome. I'm with you here. A team leader or coach needs to get up and say that its bulls*** that we use some alibi for losing to the twinkies just because bad s*** always happens at the metrodome.
  2. Screw you Swisher and your falling over on all short-hops.
  3. He f***ing falls over on all short-hops. Why the hell does he do that?
  4. Dare I say it: I think Paulie would have picked it.
  5. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) Twins with two strikes = their hitters shorten up, think other way and up the middle. Why they lead the league in BA with RISP and 2 outs. Sox with two strikes = swing as f***ing hard as possible. This is why we have a lot of strikeouts nearly falling over with 2 strikes. Well you see, that is what they call good baseball. We play corpseball.
  6. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:55 PM) Swisher has been a disapointment this year. Not as advertised.
  7. And there you have it. Guerrier comfortable again.
  8. Big AB by Thome here. Sets the tone for the end of the game.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:49 PM) Sure, if it was 2001 Well that's the 2-3-4 of our best hitters, and very good hitters. AND YES DYE!
  10. How would you feel knowing you had Dye-Thome-Griffey coming up here? At least the one run would seem to be a certainty.
  11. That's a good way to start. If we must go down, let's go down hard.
  12. I hope we at least put some pressure on these assholes.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:44 PM) I won't blame KW cuz it sounded like he was trying to get relief help. Sounded like he was linked to about 4 or 5 names. Still has another month. I agree, it seems as if he pursued relief help aggressively. He wasn't willing to overpay for it which I also praise him for, that's what the market was banking on. It will help us in the future that no one overpaid for relief help this year, it well set the market.
  14. At least Ehren came right at the guy and got ahead. Different ballgame had Thornton and Dotel done the same.
  15. It's bulls*** that we walk into the metrodome defeated. You can tell as the Twins started to do well today that everyone was looking around as if they were waiting for them to come back to get us. I remember one of our young pitchers being interviewed, I can't remember which, but he was talking about how players had told him of all the things that happen to us at the metrodome. This team needs to act like a first place team. Hawk said it perfectly that we were a team that was behind even when we were in the lead.
  16. A player that covers ground really well will get better reads and thus cover even more ground in center than he would in the corner spots because the break of a ball is sometimes almost unpredictable and much more severe at the corner spots at that high of a level of baseball.
  17. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 05:30 PM) This is just from your experience, which I'm sorry to say is wrong. CF is the most difficult OF position to field and there shouldn't be any debate. Lets just throw Dye or Quentin in CF and see what happens. Remember Mackowiak, or Podsednik? They were LFers who failed miserably in CF. A player that covers ground really well will get better reads and thus cover even more ground in center than he would in the corner spots because the break of a ball is sometimes almost unpredictable at that high of a level.
  18. Will Griffey play tonight?
  19. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) Whatever happened to her? She seemed to drop off the planet for some reason. I wondered what happened to her too.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 01:22 PM) Wow, that would be a quick way of refilling the minors. Are we sure that Griff will be a type A free agent?
  21. Even though he doesn't quite fit, I'm absolutely giddy that my all time favorite player is on the Sox. It's like a childhood dream being realized.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) I have questions as to how Griffey will handle CF, but having Anderson as a defensive backup should work out well. Griffey is a significant upgrade offensively over Konerko & SWISHER. Note that I include Swisher in the equation as I personally have no problem moving Swisher and staying with Konerko (this is if the Konerko is in fact 100% healthy). That said, it sounds like Konerko will be benched for the time being. Still, I expect him to get some playing time since Griffey can't possibly be expected to play CF every day (ie, he'll need at least 1-2 games off a week). I assume Wise will be sent down with the Sox adding someone from the minors (or the trade market) to the pen. In terms of what the Sox gave up. Masset is an arm I like but had little value to the Sox and really just needs a shot to pitch in a low pressure situation and get things figured out (that wasn't going to happen with the Sox). Richar is toolsy but I'm not saddened by his loss since I prefer Getz (who I believe is a much more intelligent and well rounded ball-player, although much less toolsy). I don't see the Reds interest in Richar unless they plan on moving him to SS. In general neither Masset or Richar were what I'd consider "key" minor leaguers. Both were on the wrong end of the development curve (ie, mid 20's without yet establishing themselves in the bigs). I also think the Sox could end up getting a comp pick out of this. At first I thought no, Sox wouldn't offer arbitration in fear of Griffey accepting, however, think about it. If the Sox make a couple moves which would basically block any spot where Ken could play, do you really think he'd accept arbitration (someone will at least offer him a 1yr 10M type of deal and I think he'd take that before he'd take going to arbitration on a team where he wouldn't be an everyday player). My question is, if Griffey really produces, is having him next year and perhaps beyond really a bad thing?
