  1. Is there any correlation between the major league ball club and its minor league affilities proximity? Are there any advantages to either being close or far?
  2. QUOTE(quickman @ May 24, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) addison, it was a joke I was making a snack run...when I got back, I nearly fell off my chair laughing.
  3. For those of you complaining about the credibility of the rumor, just sit back, relax and partake in some intelligent baseball chatter. There have been some great--and I mean great--points made by both camps. Personally, I think there may be some vaildity to this "rumor." GM's keep in contact regarding players/talent all the time.
  4. Per ESPN Radio 1000's Mac, Jurko, and Harry: Whispers of a deal surrounding Joe Crede and Brandon McCarthy for Eric Chavez have been revisited. Perhaps this has actually picked up a little steam as Kenny may or may not have been in contact with A's GM Billy "I can do anything with three twenty-game winners" Beane.
  5. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 24, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Good deal, I was just wondering since I just noticed that. Thanks for the info.
  6. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 24, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) BTW, this is the first time I noticed it, why are you in the fight against piracy addy, just outta curiousity? I grew up in the record industry and I've witnessed what it does to the artist, label, fan-base, etc. first-hand. I'm not here to spew a certain agenda, but I feel that link may help some get a feel for what piracy has done to the industry in a more subtle, approachable manner. It is from RIAA, the Recording Industry Association of America, and worth the read. So, in short, I encourage you all to check it out and if folks have questions, suggestions, complaints, etc. maybe we can start up a thread in SL&P.
  7. QUOTE(JimH @ May 24, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) I didn't realize he was Italian. Jim, you literally had me laughing out loud.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) He was our best hitter in April, period. Is this is a current slump he is in or is he reverting back to what he was last year, I just don't know, I'd like to give him another month to see which way it is. Rest assured, you'll get your month. Joe ain't going anywhere.
  9. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) Not giving up on Cruddy? How many crappy seasons will it take for you to? Don't get me wrong, I think Joe is a helpless case. Let it be known, I have given up on Crede. What you see is what you get. I just don't see him making a turn around. At best, I think you're looking at Joe Randa. However, I don't endorse dealing him because: A) He is a White Sox staple at 3B--always seems healthy B ) He is an above average defender C) Will Polanco's presence and offensive production trump Crede's? I think not. Polanco's defense will not equate to Joe's and I fail to see him making or breaking a playoff roster with the best record in baseball
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) Yes, when your contending you don't just bite the bullet. Crede has value because a team could get him, see whether they can fix his swing and than offer him a deal and get him signed. I highly doubt he's going to be getting big money so why not. Plus he's a guy that could grow in with a team who still think he's got some talent and he does have talent. He's just never going to go anywhere unless someone really adjusts his swing. If a team was getting Crede, a prospect like Tracey, and than a guy like Munoz/Diaz they are getting two guys that would probably be on the major league team from day one (Crede/Munoz or Diaz) and than a guy with good potential. Now I wouldn't give up all that for Polanco, but if you get yourself another quality player in return I would. In a pennant race, a team is always looking to better themselves, but I just don't see a Crede deal being done, let alone trading him for !?Polanco!? As frustrated as I am with Crede, at least you know what you have trotting out to the hot corner every game. "Agree to disagree."
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) Yes, I guarantee he will be. He's a FA at the end of the year and his swing his god awful. Crede shouldn't be the starter but the Sox are stuck cause they don't have any other options. Crede still has value though and him packaged with a prospect or two could get you more than just a stop gap 3rd baseman. I'm done with Crede, absolutely done with him. Jas, I see what you're saying, but why would a team be willing to trade for a guy with White Sox self-admitted swing issues if he's going to be a FA in the off-season anyway. It just dosen't make sense. The Sox are stuck with Joe in 2005. Unless he nets another 3B, trading Joe just doesn't make any sense. I'm just awe-struck by this Crede-trade talk. Bite the bullet and hope he produces some form of offense in this, his last year with the Sox. Am I alone in these thoughts?
  12. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 24, 2005 -> 11:55 AM) One can only hope... Get the f outta here. What the hell are you going to do at 3B in the meantime? This is just crazy talk.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) If the Sox made that deal, I think that Crede would be a part of it and if Tracey was involved it would be a larger scale move in the sense of Billy Wanger (maybe...Sox seem to be playing for this year and Wagner has a ridiculous contract but will be free at seasons end). If you could work out a Crede/Tracey/One More Good prospect and than a mid tier guy like Diaz/Munoz for Polanco, Wagner and a few million in cash I'd pull the trigger. ...so quick to send off Crede. Joe is this team's third-baseman. Does anyone really foresee Crede playing for another team by season's end? I sure don't.
  14. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 24, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) Just to save you guys time... This thread will now debate the term "Ace" for the next 4-6 pages. To further enhance your reading pleasure... Who gives a s***?
  15. Fellas, go back one page and read Dick Allen's post.
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 24, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) If it was this past weekend, Birmingham was playing West Tennessee, a Cub affiliate. Levine has said the Cubs were close to a trade. Bruce Wolf mentioned this morning the Cubs may be going after Wagner and Polanco. These Phillies scouts may have been scouting Cub prospects. Ah, yes. That makes much more sense. The Cubs are in a bad spot in the MI and need to make something happen. I think you pretty much figured this one out.
  17. I thought Polanco talk was done-for after the off-season. Remember how many people were in love with this guy before the aquisition of Iguchi? Gimme Polanco anyday over MVP and let's get his ass some starts giving the trio of Crede-Uribe-Iguchi some much needed days off. The Phils are really looking for a way to get Utley some more at-bats and that may have lowered the asking price for Polanco in and of itself. Bring him in Kenny!
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 24, 2005 -> 09:16 AM) A lot of people somehow got it in their heads that he is really good. He had a good year, then he had a bad year, then he had a good half year, and then the next half wasn't good. Now, he is just one of the suckiest sucks that ever sucked. My damn weiner kids are listening.
  19. Let's hope the Corpseball was a one-time thing after the Wrigley roadtrip and the long flight. That was just brutal last night. If we play anywhere near the way we played yesterday, Colon's line is going to look something like: 8.0 IP 1 ER 9 Ks
  20. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 24, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) With Graves' salary? I doubt it. Bingo. Ain't happening unless he makes it to waivers and even then it sounds like a "strechhhhhhhhhhh".
  21. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 24, 2005 -> 08:32 AM) How about a Vizcaino for Graves swap with the Reds picking up most of Graves' contract? Otherwise, Graves will likely clear waivers and the Reds will get nothing for him. I think there will be some sad-sack ballclub willing to trade for Graves and he won't even make it to waivers. So, now you have to ask yourself if this is a guy Kenny would be willing to trade for and the only guy fathomable would be Vizcaino. If you were the Reds, would you want this guy in your pen? Doubtful.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 24, 2005 -> 08:27 AM) It would have to be a hell of a package for the Reds to give up Dunn. They could quite easily get a guy like Pena or Kearns for much, much less. I know you aren't in Chicago to hear this guy's reports, but he said it's going to be a trade with a National League ballclub for a "big-name" left-handed OF and a RP. A) Kearns is a righty B ) Neither Kearns nor Willy Mo are considered "big-name" C) With 13 HR already on the season, Dunn is a good power-number left-hander for the Cubs to consider D) The Reds are basiclly out of contension, making anyone expendable and the team believed to make the trade with the Cubs is said to be scouting the minor league system right now, and lord knows the Cubs have a ton of talent in AA. EDIT: Another name to watch is Cliff Floyd; yes, the Mets are still in contension, but Hendry has a tremdous relationship with Floyd and the Mets may find him expendible after checking out a guy like DuBois and some AA pitching.
  23. Correct me if I'm wrong (and I shouldn't be), the Reds have 10 days to trade, release or outright him to the Minors. Now, with Levine's reports of a Flubs trade for a left-handed out fielder and a RP on the horizon, I think you are going to see the Cubs land both Adam Dunn and Danny Graves...just something to keep an eye on.
