QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) He IS wrong on this. The Sox just had their best April Attendance mark since 1994. There are more people coming out to the park. He is just too damned lazy to do some research. He did what John Kruk is paid to do. He sits his fat ass there makes some off the cuff comments to encite people and add some flavor to the show. I don't expect Kruk to research a f***ing attendance remark on the Sox. I also don't expect the Sox to draw over 12,000 on a 35 degree night with the wind blowing in from the lake against the Kansas City f***ing Royals. As I said before, preaching to the choir. Nothing productive can come out discussing this, go to the games, and prove him wrong, that's all that needs to be said.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ May 3, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) I'm pretty sure it is problems on their end. Anyone else find it a little funny that your name LowerCaseRepublican actually has republican capitalized? Or is it just me that thinks that is funny

QUOTE(SuperSteve @ May 2, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) The only one of them I am firmilar with is Aderol, and it makes people so dumb...seems like they're high almost. I guess they do get alot done...I have never taken them and never will (no need), so I couldn't say what they exactly do to a person. I have to think baseball players have better types of "uppers" than Aderol, as they do have designer steroids and all. Baseball has a history of this though. Only cracked down on Ephedra after the Oriole's pitcher died...only on steroids after Congress got involved. To say that people who use Aderol makes them appear dumb is kinda ignorant. I'm not saying you are ignorant person, but when it comes to this you might be. I have not used nor ever plan to use Aderol but I know plenty of people who do, have, and presecribe it. I completely understand why baseball players would use it. imagine playing 162 games in something like 180 days. THat is a grueling lifestyle when you factor in the travel too. Aderol or other amphetamines would give the players the lift, the energy, to get through the game. When their livelihood is based on their performance in a grueling sport one would take that in order to succeed.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 2, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) I don't think that the mlb should crack down on drugs in general. It has nothing to do with enhancing performance. Librarians aren't tested for marijuana and athletes shouldn't be either in my opinion On a side note, there was a study performed at University of Wisconsin-Madison that proved that people actually drive better under the effects of marijuana. Thank you hippies for justifying it

Twins player suspended for Roids
KWs OK for Me replied to southsideirish71's topic in The Diamond Club
That is the first player of any merit to be suspended. Sanchez isn't a bad player but Rincon is fairly well known as one of the best set-up men in the league. I hope that Minny blows 3 leads during this time And that is reason #321 why I hate Minnesota and anything that comes out of the state -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) I was really thinking of Scott when I said that. If he had been laying down bunts his average would still be showing around .300, and the net result would have been the same. I have to confess I was worried about his average when we got him, but I hadn't watched him play too much. After seeing him for a month, with the way he takes pitches, and his baseball IQ of knowing exactly what to do in any situation, I love this deal even more. He just flat out gets the job done. Which really should be the theme thus far for 2005 Flat out getting the job done. I have to add in the fact that Carlos Lee is batting a whopping .214 with 3 HRs

QUOTE(sec159row2 @ May 2, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) I heard ADD drugs are used... helps 'em stay focused... Aderol is common in baseball now? Wow. That's scary, its popped like tylenol in college, but that truly doesn't surprise me. It works the same way on the body that greenies do basically. They both are amphetamines, speed up your circulation, brain activity, etc. These in conjunction with anykind of dietary supplement i can't imagine would be good for your body, but if you were outlaw it it could very well change the nature of the game
-
I'm remember hearing some old interview by I think Ken Caminiti. He said that there are 3 or 4 guys on every team that DONT use greenies. In the interview or in a seperate discussion about it by former baseball players I remember them discussing if they were to ever get banned that they would have to cut the length of the season to around 115 games. They said without these things it would not be possible to play 162 game seasons year in and year out.

Has anyone heard any follow up on the Gload injury? Is he expected to come back when his 15 days are up or will it take longer than that? I haven't heard a thing about the seriousness of his injury

Another good article, although not as theoretically sound as that, is on the cover of the sports page in todays USA today. It's nice getting some national praise, the guy who wrote the article I thought did a pretty accurate job of describing the sox.

This is his 6th year of major league pitching, if I remember the rule correctly isn't it 6 years of arbitration and then eligible for free agency? His first season was 2000 in which he appeared in 15 games and pitched 70 innings, which I believe qualifies as enough to count as a season towards free agency.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 2, 2005 -> 01:52 AM) It may be a contract year, but it's not his FA year. This is no different than last year for him. He'll either sign or go to arbitration. You sure he's not FA eligible?
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 2, 2005 -> 01:51 AM) Do any of you guys think that this being his contract year has anything to do with it? I forgot about that, 25 years old and already at his last year of arbitration! Damn! If he keeps this up, he's looking to make 10-13 mil a yr based on this years FA market. That's incentive enough for me

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ May 2, 2005 -> 01:29 AM) To the ignorant poster who said JG's success has a lot to do with the fact that he is our #5 and hence facing the other team's #5, here are some facts you are ignoring: Jon's ERA is less than 2. So it is not like he is getting lit up for runs, and still winning becoz the opponent pitcher is also getting lit up. He has 2 CG shut outs....which is a great reflection of not only his ERA but also of the fact that he is keeping our BP fresh for when they are needed. He has not faced only the 5th starters in all of his 5 wins. Let's let the mudsling begin. Before calling me f***ing ignorant learn how to read. I believe I said, JG has a good chance to win 20 because of the competition. I did not discredit his success. If you believe he will end the year with an ERA less than 2 than you are either taking too much or not enough of whatever it is that you are on. Jon is succeeding this year because he has been able to keep his walks down and throw strikes. With that said, throughout the year he will on average be facing the 4, 5, and 1 starters. Facing the 4 and 5 starters will allow JG to get run support (specifically early run support) allowing him to pitch from leads. Garland over the last three years has shown that he is a "tempermental" person, and definately works better when he is in the lead. With all that said, I believe and that Jon will continue to do what he's started this year doing: throwing strikes, limiting walks, getting groundball outs, and locating his breaking balls. Keeping to this will allow him to work deep into games and give the Sox the abililty to win when he starts. So if you really want to call me ignorant go right ahead. But before you do you best make sure that you learn to read, or were those words to big for you?
