Acording to a report in the Los Angeles Times, the Angels are also interested in acquiring Soriano. The paper reports Nationals GM Jim Bowden is believed to have asked the Angels for one of their three top young pitchers -- John Lackey, Ervin Santana or Jered Weaver -- and one of their top prospects, infielder Howie Kendrick or shortstop Brandon Wood. oh my god, can you imagine the angels doing that? it would be the worst trade ever. Brandon Wood and Jered Weaver for rent-a-Soriano?!?!

So the Tribune again mentioned that Fields is spending some time learning to play the outfield and Kenny's comments in the same article seem to indirectly imply that Fields will play LF next season. And presuming Pods is finally gone, is that really an optimal lineup? We would essentially return to the 2004 lineup, in makeup at least, with no speed, tons of power, and quite a few high K guys. Gooch is the only one that could be seen as a leadoff hitter. Oh, dreams of Carl Crawford.

well, the next two games should be EASY wins. and i really think detroits win yesterday was huge.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 06:53 PM) Hawk and DJ back to dishing out the excuses. Apparently, our players are all struggling because they don't want to be traded away from their bestest friends. its only fun to listen to hawk when we are winning -

I keep trying to rationalize. We can still sweep this series since the orioles have such terrible pitchers going the next two days, we can still sweep KC, detroit can still sweet minnesota. but even then it all comes crashing back down. freddy and javy and buehrle arent going to get better (well, we will see about buerhle) the tigers dont lose, the twins dont lose, and we havent even gotten to the yankees yet. we just arent going to get it done this year. -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) It's incredible that the press doesn't press the Sox about it. phil rogers should just demand that him and buerhle have an MRI. seriously, im so tired of this "tipping pitches" bullspiff any medical explanation would be welcome. -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) Uh, Jose Contreras says hi. He's not going anywhere. Buehrle probably isn't, either. --- No faith in Freddy. You know, I'd almost prefer it if Freddy got flipped with Mac, but imagine that miserable arm coming out of the pen! ummmm, thats why hes first on my list of the three pitchers who are staying. read it again. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) Absolutely. Go Tigers this weekend! The main reason Soriano on the Tigers would concern me is that we face them 10 more times this year. yeah, but even with soriano, i still like our chances of beating the tigers in any given game more than beating the twins (although I still think we have little chance of winning the division)

QUOTE(loltrain @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) I don't remember Dombrowski ever saying Sanchez wouldn't be traded, he's always been the big name brought up in all of our trade rumors. Seriously, how would we possibly aquire Soriano, Abreu, or Lee without giving him up, regardless of whether Chicago is involved? Obviously we aren't trading anyone important on the major league team or Maybin, so that leaves Sanchez as our only real big time prospect. really? i know that maybin is getting a ton of press, but can a 19 year-old toolsy OF really be untouchable when a potentially dominant starting pitcher is not? i dont even know what sanchez throws, but it seems to me that he seems a much more likely success story than maybin, especially since maybins ETA maybe after the tigers big window (at least when bonderman, robertson, maroth, pudge and mags could be gone).

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) How about that Mark Buehrle? He's been TERRIBLE as of late. It may be to a point where, unless he rebounds, we may have to reconsider his option for next year. Is it worth paying Buehrle 10 million if he's producing at his current rate? I'm sure he'll rebound -- it's impossible to remain this bad -- but if he's giving up 5ER every other outing it may be wise to consider another path. It's past the point where this is a slump. He's either been completely figured out or pitching through an injury. i totally agree.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) Yeah...since there was NO ONE on this site who said that it was a dumb trade. my point is, theres no point in saying it. if vazquez was pitching well, or if we had an injury, wed all be saying thank god for the trade. but the situation hasnt worked out...yes wed all like to have chris young back. but we dont, and while the trade isnt working it was REASONABLE (whether or not you liked it) at the time. what good does it do to complain now? there is an obvious distinction between complaining about things that can (hopefully) change (our hitting, pitching, for the rest of THIS SEASON) as opposed to trades which are finito, history, o-va.
