QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) So, teams don't sustain success in baseball? The Atlanta Braves shelf life has extended over a decade. Oakland and Minnesot did well with themselves since 2000. Yes, none are consistent World Series winners, but that doesn't mean every year the farm was sold to "win now." Considering our playoff spot if far from guaranteed, you don't know whether we would even make the playoffs following a trade. Wouldn't look to good trading McCarthy if we're not in the playoffs, would it? At least last season our birth was all but guaranteed (as we seemingly thought) around the trade deadline. I also don't like the concept of number 2, where we're acquiring a player to keep another team from obtaining him. Sounds like something a four-year old would do. Concept number 1 is how the Texas Rangers run their ballclub. They sure as hell haven't won much. It's ridiculous to ignore our pitching woes for an improved offense. I agree Soriano replacing Podsednik would be a welcomed improvement, but unloading Garcia and moving McCarthy into the rotation would benefit us more. you are totally correct. I just think that Kenny might be taking the "go for broke, then rebuild" strategy as opposed to the "lets be good for 15 years"...hell the marlins have done it better than the braves, so its not as if that strategy lacks merit.

ok, wait, what if the nats are stupid enough to take freddy and pods? we can dream cant we????

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) Score is reporting MacDougal has been acquired for 2 minor leaguers. soriano deal imminent now.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) I think if you read the story carefully, all it says is that Washington is very interested in Brandon McCarthy. That just means that's who they want, not who they'll get. After thinking about this a bit longer, I'll go out on a limb and say there's NO WAY that Brandon McCarthy is being offered by KW for Soriano. ill bet its either bmac and pods or lumsden, fields and pods (although then the mcdougal deal is kaput)

Heath Phillips is better than advertised. Of course, Im making this claim after only having seen him pitch in the AAA all-star game...but for those 2 innings, he looked like the old Mark Buerhle....sigh..

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) Now that certainly is an interesting tidbit of information. i bet its because hes built like carlos castillo and is wearing down, not because hes about to be traded

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) That's far from a guarantee now, last year, or any year with a baseball team. I just believe it's incredibly shortsighted to include a potential ace (for our rotation, atleast) for Soriano. Whether or not he's immediately swung to another club for pitching, it remains clear we'd be without McCarthy. Oh Heads, if you think my rantings now about our pitching is tiring, just wait until McCarthy leaves. My expecatations of our pitchers will be so absurd, you'll spiff yourself. Everybody will be compared to Liriano and Santana, even more than the currently are. "Where's our Liriano" posts will quadruple in frequency. Immediate contributions will be expected upon every prospect. I realize the logic of assembling a club to "win now," but does that excuse the lack of forsight concerning our teams following 2006? Would such a scenario involving McCarthy basically assure us of the same rotation next season? I'm not doubting KW's intelligence or track record, so no one needs to start that crap with "He did pretty good last year, har har har." Just don't like this, AT ALL. oh come on, everyone wants to see Fireball Freddy around for another year!!!!

QUOTE(Allsox @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) I don't see how this trade makes sense for the Sox unless Kenny makes another deal with Soriano. Granted, Soriano is hell of a trading chip but that's an awful lot to give up just for some bullpen help. it makes sense for a number of reasons 1. we all want pitching, but pitching isnt out there, so turn to offense. 2. soriano must NOT become a tiger 3. mccarthy is awesome but this teams shelf life ends in 2007, and mccarthy, while a big factor, figures largest post 2007, when we will likely not be as good as we are now (presuming of course we dont resign everyone) 4. if we make it through the ALCS, the series is ours. the NL is horrendous.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) The argument of best team in baseball is pointless. Like every year, we will find out in the last week of October who the best team in baseball actually is. yes.

Idea: Myers and Flash (Not a rumor) thoughts?

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 09:45 AM) There's a bit of a difference between having trouble with substances and punching your wife in the face. A huge difference. cant agree more. doc gooden is a saint compared to this guy. there are only about 3 more pathetic things that one can do besides assaulting ones wife. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) I would root for the team to lose on every game that Myers pitches. That man is human filth, and there's nothing else to it from my point of view. A drug problem, drinking, self-mutilating, a generally bad attitude toward people around you -- these things can be forgiven and looked past. Even some level of violence is okay. Carl Everett headbutt an umpire? Well, the Umpire was unlikely to have been that much smaller than him, and they're both males; it's a relatively fair fight, and the shot is a relatively fair shot. It's a ridiculous thing to do, but umpires are big boys. Taking a woman who is over a foot smaller than you, punching her in the face, slapping her repeatedly, and having a history of this? No thanks. I know that having a moral guide to players might lead to some good ones getting disqualified from teams, but that's management's decision to make. I'd be stunned if we picked up a former child molester or a NeoNazi, and I'd be appalled if we picked up a guy who did this to his wife. Hell, even a little violence could, in theory, be looked past. Everyone has feelings of frustration, and sometimes, people lose it in the heat of the moment. But in Myers case, that's clearly not the problem. He's just a sick son of a b****. -
you guys are crazy. its obviously going to be Wes Whisler.

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) UP TO THE SECOND SP TRUST LEVELS: 1.) Jose Contreras - I have much faith in the Titan, I truely expect him to kickass every time out. - - 2.) Jon Garland - The tallest of the midgets at this point in time, he's been pitching considerably better than the other 3. - 3.) Mark Buehrle - 22 ER (24 R) over his last 14.1 IP, that's 3 straight horrid starts. I hate him right now. 4.) Javier Vazquez - I have much faith in Javy, faith that 4 out of his 6 IP in each start will be stellar but he'll end up allowing 3 runs per in the other 2 because an opposing hitter looked at him the wrong way. - - - 5.) Freddy Maddux - No real reason for him to be pitching for this team in August. well, done, well done, but I have more faith in Javy than I do Mark at the moment. Javy can still get lucky with a 94 mph fastball. Mark cant. -
IM ON! but i am off if freddy garcia tries to join.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) We started the season off well last year, too, but began this year's like crap before kicking it into high gear. We'll be fine. And fathom: I'm glad you like the other teams better than ours, talent-wise. Did you feel that way last year, too, whenever we lost to the Red Sox or Yankees in the season? last year we were never 4 games out though....lets not forget that
-
Can I just say Im glad we didnt already sign him to a 70 million dollar contract. I would not offer him an extension until the middle of next year. This may be a hiccup, but it really may be an accumulation of innings mixed with the league developing a very successful strategy. The problem is, if its the second one, Mark has yet to show any sign of adjusting. Its still way too early, but seriously, adjust if you can man.
-
I have more faith in Jon than I do in anyone who is not a Bronze Titan QUOTE(beautox @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) i would love to say your right, and this will shake up mojo, but Nate Robertson is a left handed pitcher, which means that Chris Widger + Pablo Ozuna will be out there, Zer Lame! Widger will not be in the game. Monday off, no reason to sit AJ, its not as if Widge is a better option even against a southpaw

Idea: Vazquez and Pods for Gordon and Abreu
shawnhillegas replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I really dont think anyone wants Pods I dont want to pay an outfielder 15 million dollars That means Freddy has to pitch all year; NO WAY do i want that happening -
I wonder if we can get Lastings Milledge for a starter with a 5.07 ERA
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) Yeah, Jim/Dan same difference. Minaya is not catching s*** for the f***ups of the previous GM. ok yes, but do you think he will trade milledge? i mean, kazmir has to come up in that conversation. i just dont see it happening (although I hope Im wrong)
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) It's a shame Dan Duquette traded Kazmir. Rendering your theory useless. No, it was Jim Duquette not Dan Duquette, and I think it was actually Steve Phillips who did the trade, you are in the wrong league. And the POINT IS, that you hear mets fans b****ing every day. Who the GM was is irrelevant.
-
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) Thats why I think the Mets are in no position to not put him in the deal. The Mets have a chance at a World Series right now. They need pitching, the best pitchers available are on the White Sox. I feel like they are almost inclined to trade Milledge because they really have nothing else to offer. ok, heres how I see it. Last 4 good mets prospects 1. Wright 2. Kazmir 3. Reyes 4. Milledge Minaya gets s*** every 5th day for losing one of them...no way he parts with the other, especially with the success that Reyes and Wright are having. HE MADE THIS MISTAKE WITH KAZMIR!!!

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:05 AM) Not if that starter is Garcia. There's been a lot of great posts in this thread about why he should be the one that goes. I know I wouldn't mind not seeing his 88 mph finesse s*** the rest of the way. I would be so unbelievably proud of KW/Ozzie if they trade one of the underachieving starters. yes but you have to be concerned about injury. if anything happens and we dont have bmac, we are in big trouble
