  1. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) Yeah. I'm not a fan of Barry, but there's no way you can defend what Springer and Garner did here. Absolutely classless. Let me preface this by saying that normally I consider myself a pretty decent and "classy" person. However, I saw the replay on Sportscenter as I was lying down to go to bed and I jumped up and said wow. I love what Springer did. I'm so sick of other players defending Bonds. Barry Bonds is not a good guy. So I don't think he deserves to be treated with class. I hope other people start doing this too. Russ Springer just became one of my favorite players.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ May 16, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) Matt WHO? Matt C. Dude, you've gotta be who I think you are... otherwise the coincidence is unbelievable.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ May 16, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) NO! Your better off staying at home tuning into the Spice Channel! Never mind then. In case you didn't figure it out, this is Matt.
  4. If your wife's friend is hot, tell her that your cousin Matt will take care of her friend.
  5. 80's- Ozzie. I always wore 13 and played shortstop throughout little league. 90's- Mike Sirotka. I have no idea why. 00's- Aaron Rowand. For his attitude and toughness. He plays baseball like a football player.
  6. I know this old news now but I've been pretty busy and haven't been able to post. I love this guy. He is my favorite player for the exact reason that he is getting attention now. He has no fear. Probably more of my posts on here have been on Rowand but oh well. He became my favorite when he crashed into the wall like twice in one week very early in his career and I was like "this is my guy right here." Again, I apologize if this has been asked or talked about already but many of you seem to be able to access information easier than myself and I was wondering when it actually was that he crashed into the wall like twice in one week? Also, I've been saying since he was traded that I want to get a Rowand Phils' jersey, where might be the best place online for me to check out and not spend $200?
  7. QUOTE(ZeroHour @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) Let's check. I think my last post was sometime during the playoffs, and before that was sometime last April.....not that anyone, even myself, keeps track. I come back to ST because my baseball addiction is back and better than ever. Not to beat dead horses, but Ill throw in a few kicks. For starters, if you think a city being "over-soxed" or, god-forbid, becoming a "Sox town" is a BAD thing, you need your head examined. Fans=money=payroll=players. Period. I dont care if the new blood are posers, fools, bandwagoners, or just plain newbies, bring em all on. Sorry if you have to leave earlier to park, sorry if the beer lines are longer, its the spoils of war. Speaking of spoils, the team, Oz, KW, JR brought the world series home! Remember? That thing that now defines our team and our baseball lifetimes? We should all be calm as Hindu cows right now. I know I am, but my fellow Sox fans frustrate me with all of this hand-wringing. Its not living in the past, its not blind faith, its trust. Not to sound overly rah-rah, but this team is much improved. yes, it has some flaws, but tell me what you would have done differently. Yes, another bullpen arm would be nice, but I have to believe KW and Coop know more about Thornton than I do, no matter how much Baseball Prospectus I read. I would rather have BMac in the pen and Javy #5 than BMac #5 and another minor in the pen. Thome brings us lefty power and BA, while still cutting his teeth, is a good replacement for Rowand. 2005's bench had Geoff Blum and Timo Perez, 2006 has Mackowiak and Cintron. Both vast improvements and great insurance. Thats what KW did this winter. Insured. We cant predict the future, we can only project, and why is everything always so doom and gloom here? Talk to me next homestand, maybe then well have a picture. Until then, the ledge should stored in the very backs of our minds. Yes, Cleveland will be very good this year, but are they perfect? absolutely not. They are exposed to the same risks as the Sox as is every team. Its time to show some trust, show some pride, and stay the course. Let the Cubs fans worry about how were playing, Im just enjoying the ride. -ZeroHour is a lurker on the SoxTalk message board. The opinions of ZeroHour are his own pipe-dream optimism and contain generalities that should be taken with a grain of salt. If you would like to enjoy the first Chicago World Series in 88 years, ZeroHour suggests cutting back on the sports radio. Great post. Today was my first post also since we won it. I don't understand all this freeking out already. Relax. I'm barely getting into baseball mode. Personally, before last year I was just as bad. But I guess when something I thought would never happen, actually happened, it has definitely made me just want to sit back and relax and just enjoy. I can live off last year for a long time so anything right now is just gravy. Of course I say this four games into the season and I'm sure things will change as the season goes on.
  8. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 12:54 AM) They look horrible! They can't even beat Kansas City. There's no point in even trying to salvage this season because the pitching staff has obviously declined drastically, and the hitting will never be able to pick up the slack. There's no way this team is going to win the division, so it may as well be blown up and dealt away for as much young talent as possible. That's sarcasm I hope.
  9. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 12:55 AM) s***, first post of the new season and I messed it up. I put my thoughts in with the post I was replying to. Basically... keep the ball, throwing it back is a Cubs thing. Damn it I messed up again, I tried replying to myself but the thing is empty. Oh well, it's been a while.
  10. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) s***, first post of the new season and I messed it up. I put my thoughts in with the post I was replying to. Basically... keep the ball, throwing it back is a Cubs thing.
  11. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) I have been a Sox fan for all of my 34 years, but starting last year, during the playoffs and especially during the off season and during the first couple of games this year, old time Sox fans appear to love to complain about the increase in attendance and attention the team is receiving. Bottom line, increased attendance and attention allows the team to build payroll and improve its chances of winning. Why not welcome these new fans instead of giving them crap. I am sick of hearing from all these people whining about: Going to McCuddys and the new fans didn't. Walking up day of game and getting tickets in the past. Being a long time fan entitles them to tickets before someone who recently became a fan. Growing up in Bridgeport or the Back of the Yards and new fans come from the suburbs. Never throwing a ball back. How someone should eat a hot dog. Ketchup is a condiment, deal with it. I totally agree with you on the ketchup thing. I like ketchup and don't like mustard. I do what I want. I completely disagree with the whole throwing a ball back thing. That's for Cubs fans. I think that those of us who do know the tradition are SUPPOSED to uphold it and let the younger or newer or dare I say fair-weather fans know that we don't do that here. Nothing pisses me off more than when people throw the ball back at Sox games.
  12. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 02:11 AM) Did the girl know who Anderson was? I'm sure if she had known he was a major league ballplayer she would have been going downtown in a matter of minutes. No, she didn't know. I told her when I was talking to her though. She seemed pretty oblivious. She was quite the b****.
  13. I went Saturday and Sunday and stayed at the Hyatt. I have to say though, it was hard to have fun when you're hung over as hell and weaving in and out trying not to run into people. My favorite happening of the weekend was at Hard Drive. On Friday, my buddy and I met Brian Anderson and BMac and were chatting them up a little. Anderson says to me "look at how hot that girl is behind you " He then went and hit on her and got shot down. Then I'm thinking to myself, "hey, I'm gonna go try and big league Brian Anderson," so then I go hit on her and... get shot down. Oh well.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) The best OF we have had? You didnt see Dye outperform his last season or all those seasons of Magglio and Carlos Lee? I'm only talking about last year. I think you misunderstood me. Flat out, I think he is better than both Podsednik and Dye. And no I did not see Dye out-perform him last season, because he didn't. When you add up everything Rowand adds, on the field and off, I think he is better than Jermaine.
  15. I was at the NIU vs. Western Michigan football game when my friend called me and officially ruined my day, and still my week. He truly did represent everything that was good about us this year. He is grinder. I love Aaron Rowand. He is my favorite player and it absolutely kills me to see him go to Philly.
  16. This sucks. Aaron Rowand has been my favorite player on the Sox since he ran into the wall twice in the same week like 4 or 5 years ago. I hate this deal. It's just not right. Aaron deserves better. I don't care what his numbers were last year, I think he's the best outfielder we have (had). He added so much off the field too. At least I didn't already get the Rowand jersey I was gonna ask for for Christmas.
  17. It definitely has not sunk in yet. I've thought so many times what i would do and what it would feel like if we won. And it hasn't been like that at all. It's weird, throughout the whole playoffs when everything was happening, I would just constantly shed a few tears. I wouldn't cry, but just a few tears. I can feel it in me. I don't know when it's gonna happen, but at some point I'm just gonna realize it and it's gonnna hit me and i will cry like a little baby. And those will be the sweetest tears of my life.
  18. QUOTE(SoxPhan7 @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) I totally know what you are going through. through out the regular season I lived and died with the sox. People wouldnt talk to me after a loss because I was soooo pissed. But now I have very little emotion good or bad after a game. It may because I fed off hawk and his emotion or that I am surrounded by cubs fans up here in Deerfield and very few people are watching or live the sox. i think that maybe our bodies are setting up a defense mechanism to keep us from getting hurt if the sox lose. Our bodies are keeping us from getting to high when we win and to low if we lose. It also has to do with our surroundings. I was at game 2 of the ALCS and I have never screamed so loudly and cheer so much in my life. But on sunday I just pumped a fist when pods hit the homer. IT is very strange, thats for sure. The same thing is happening to me. I don't know what's going on.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) NO. Exactly.
  20. I lucked out. I got 1 ticket for game 6. My friends tried the same thing ( 1 ticket) and I'm the only person who got through. It sucks to have to go by myself but hell I'll take it.
  21. I have been a member of soxtalk for about 10 months now. I have enjoyed reading and thinking about many of the things that all of you have written. I think that this season has now led me to a weird place. A place I never really though I would be. We are within 4 games of winning the World Series. It finally hit me today as I was driving and listening to Mac Jurko and Harry. I have so many thoughts about everything that is going on I just kind of wanted to let it all go at once. Firstly, I am incredibly bothered by all the fair-weather fans that have adopted the Sox. This past weekend was my old college's homecoming ( I graduated about a year and a half ago now.) I decided that I wanted to represent the team and so I wore my He Gone shirt. It was fun in a sense but in another sense I wish I didn't wear it. Many people throughout the night would shout "He Gone!" and I would return in right back. But I just saw way too many people wearing Sox stuff. I would find myself wanting to go up to people and start quizzing them on the roster. The part that really sucks is that this is actually taking away some of my enjoyment from seeing my favorite sports team in the biggest of series. I wish it wasn't so, but it is. The best way I've heard it put was on the radion one day when they compared it to a band that you were there for the beginning for and once they actually make it, it's just not the same. Secondly, I have really enjoyed reading the "Win it for..." thread. This is a very special thing we are witnessing and there are so many who are no longer around who deserve it so much. It is very appropriate that we remember them. Thirdly, I agree with so many of you that it feels like something is missing with Hawk calling the games. I am not the biggest supporter of Hawk, but for years he has been the voice of the Sox. The person who says aloud what you are thinking. I hope somehow he is very involved in the World Series. I would love so much to hear and see his reaction if the Sox pull this off. Fourth, the tickets situation... this is an absolute joke... oh well. Good luck to you all tomorrow. And last... I'm sorry if this has dealt mainly with the negative. This team is incredible. They have brought me so much happiness this year. Everything about the makeup of this team and organization has come together at the right time, and now makes perfect sense. Boys and girls, I think this truly is our year. Cheers to you all and Go Go Go Go Whitesox.
