  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) I think Beane is probably going to realize that Kendall is just as unmovable in Oakland as he was in Pittsburgh. Its gonna take alot to get him off their hands, given his position, declining BA, questionable health, etc. I gotta admit, I really wanted the Sox to trade for Kendall last year. I was so wrong. Glad they didn't.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) Kenny never makes his big move right before the deadline. If the sox are going to make a big move it'll be done within the next month, imo. He could make a smaller move hours before the deadline like Contreras last year but if Chavez is going to be traded to the sox it'll be within the month, no doubt in my mind. Totally agree.
  3. Wow! I really wish I could have heard this. Most guys are so PC about everything. I think and hope something is going on. That's two appearances in two days. He wants out fast, he's trying to force Beane's hand. I like the fact that he sounded cocky about how his hitting will get better. It makes me think steroids were not an issue with him. I have been and continue to be on ( if not lead) the "let's get Chavez" bandwagon.
  4. QUOTE(nvxplorer @ May 31, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) Like I said, that's your interpretation. If you think managing a ball club involves only in-game decisions, then I'd say that is a naive point of view. Take a business management class and you will learn that managing people involves a plethora of skills that can't be measured on a timecard, a balance sheet, or a lineup card. That's where I'm coming from. One thing that's obvious to me is that a group of people who respect their boss, any group of people, are going to perform better than they would with a boss they can't stand. I agree with what you are saying for the most part. I think Ozzie's in-game skills leave a very lot to be desired. I do agree though that he is getting the most from this team. I don't see anybody else having a better record witht this team than Ozzie. I do think that there are a number that would have it right there with Ozzie or very close. There are different managerial styles that could work with this team. My main point is though that while "chemistry" and the things that Ozzie does that we praise may lead them to a great season, in the playoffs its in-game skills that are more important. Where does that leave us. As we all know, it's only his 2nd year. Hopefully he can learn and get better as time goes by.
  5. I just looked at some stats for Chavez. He's hitting .286 with a .333 OBP, in the last 7 days. Maybe he's coming around finally. 9 K's to 2 BB in those games though. And most important- I just learned we have the same birthday (he's 3 years older though). It must be fate. Woh, fate that we get him that is. Not that that there's anything wrong with that.
  6. I like Sox pride but am not a fan of the win or die trying campaign. It's just too much. That ARowand commercial is terrible, except for the unintentional humor aspect of it. If it was up to me I would keep our slogan the same every year... GOOD GUYS WEAR BLACK
  7. My wish list is a third basemen and bullpen help. I really think the Chavez thing could happen. Kenny usually seems to go big or go home. Chavez and Wagner would be a dream come true, except for $$$$.
  8. QUOTE(BobDylan @ May 30, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) Wow. b****, b****, b****. We won folks. We won. Ugly. But we won. Are you going to b**** if we win like that in the playoffs? But the point is if this s*** keeps happening, we will never make it, or will get eaten up Scioscia, Torre, Gardenhire, etc. if we do.
  9. Ozzie is my favorite Sox player of all time but he flat out sucks as a manager. From his first game (last year) to his latest. Just awful.
  10. Like someone just said- I cannot remember the last time I was so pissed after a win.
  11. We won but that game still sucked. Ozzie sucked a fat one today. f***ing terrible.
  12. QUOTE(JoshPR @ May 30, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) He earned the name Mr. Zero in Japan for a reason. That was Soooo made up he even said he wasn't called that. He could be Mr. Zero in Japan.. But in the US he's Mr. Crooked Number That was funny. Regardless though, I have not given up on him. I can really see him being big later in the season.
  13. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ May 30, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) I think it has more to do with shingo's control problems than it has to do with hitters figuring him out. This year he has had 0 control of his breaking stuff. So he's forced to throw fastballs for strikes. Last year he mastered the frisbee and could keep hiters on thier toes. If he can get control of his slow stuff again he can be useful. I think charlotte's a good place for that. I agree. Last year and this off-season, I was always saying that I hope he doesn't get figured out by hitters once they see him a few times. But, I really don't think it is so much the case as is loss of control and spotting his fastball. He earned the name Mr. Zero in Japan for a reason. I think the best thing for him is to go down to Charlotte where he can get some consistent innings and straighten things out. Shingo in a way reminds me of Foulke, as far as he will just need to adjust back to the hitters once he gets himself together. That was always a big thing for Foulke since he really only threw the two pitches.
  14. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ May 27, 2005 -> 10:04 PM) Hmmm... Once again... I called this. Where are all the people now who would rather have Brandon McCarthy than a WORLD SERIES RING? Exactly like I originally said, it's ridiculous.
  15. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ May 27, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) How could anyone say no to this. I don't get it. I love BMac as much as the next guy but since when is he Roger Clemens. If you took out the name BMac's name in all these posts and left it blank and let someone read, I swear they would think you are talking about Clemens or f***ing Jason Schmidt or something. He had one fricking start that was relatively successful and now people would rather hold on to him than win a ring. WTF? It's ridiculous. Hmmm...
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) Mackowiak has been playing a lot of 3rd base this season for Pitt. With his strong lefty bat, he'd be a perfect fit for our team. I didn't know that. You're right that does make sense then.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) Mackowiak is a much more likely, and realistic option to be traded for than Chavez. If we're gonna go after an outfielder I'd like him to be better than Mackowiak.
  18. How could anyone say no to this.
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ May 27, 2005 -> 07:04 AM) A great team...?? Uhhh, no. A great set of pitchers... yes. What do we need.....? Oh.. how about 6 guys that can hit the ball instead of wetting themselves at the plate. Yeah, I know but if I don't say so then I'd get jumped on by people saying I should just enjoy the year. It was a disclaimer ms. doable one. Back to topic, I like the thought of having Chavez in between Frank and Pauly. Although he's batting like .220 with and OBP of less that .300. I think I'm willing to give up Crede and Anderson for him. He would have to show signs of hitting first though.
  20. I know we have a great team and I am definitely enjoyin it but... while I think we are very good, I don't think we have the team to win the whole thing right now. I just wanted to see where everyone was at as far as what we need to do to get there.
  21. I think I'm a little late to answer the actual question but... I'll take Ron Schueler. No doubt.
  22. QUOTE(TLAK @ May 26, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) Stick with this guy. He will be fine over the long run. You want Mike Jackson back? I agree.
  23. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ May 25, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) This may sound bad but...David Wells...Never lived up to expectations after a 20 win season. Bad back gets him the honor of bad sox. good one. what a schmuck that guy is.
