QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) Besides Buehrle, who's pitched? I saw Redding pitch. Not sure who else.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) What concerns me about the offense so far is the inability to string together consecutive hits. After about 15 games in spring training, you'd think the team be batting over .250. There's still time to get going before the season begins, and it would be nice to see it happen sooner than later. Uh. we aren't a team that strings a lot of hits together. We hit HRs mainly to score and play small ball to get the other runs (walk or double, bunt, occasional base hit/sacfly). We don't have guys with high averages that string hits and play medium ball where we have 2 or 3 doubles in a row. Does anybody have the pbp for that last hitting inning? And who else has pitched today after buerhle?

QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) ouch. buehrlee getting hit. definitely the most pitches this spring.

Teams ahve been throwing the leather

Both he and Coop, (was it cooP? Somebody) said at the beginning of the spring that his velocity doesn't come around until the end of ST. I remember last year he wasn't getting anywhere near where he did during the season. Said the fastball builds up.

The official Soxtalk 2006 predictions thread
jphat007 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I predict that many people will look at the way we play in the spring on April 1 and predict doom and say our offense and pitching will stink because the numbers weren't great during ST. Two weeks later nobody will even remember ST or it's numbers. Our offense will be better this year, not in huge amounts, but enough that it lowers our 1-run games. Our pitching staff won't be as good, but in a very, very small amount. I don't know if we win the division because a lot of things could happen, but I certainly like our shot going into the year. PS. Jose absolutely dominates. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 11:33 AM) This scares me vastly less than the pop one of our guys felt in his foot right around this time last year. Oh yah. Now that woulda been trouble. But it turned out to be nothing at all.

QUOTE(rventura23 @ Mar 16, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) its never good that contreras is worried about the injury, but Im glad the sox dont think too much of it. too many injuries already Every team is facing similar ST injuries. They happen to lots of players every spring. Little inflammations and pulls. Nothing serious. Nothing to worry about.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) Cotts (2005 splits) | (career splits) Gave up "a lot" (11) more walks at home. Probably trying to be careful. Man those are sick splits.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 09:39 PM) That was sweet but the sample size is still obviously too small (4.2 IP) to judge and he isn't striking guys out which would be nice to see. I hope he keeps it up though. Well obviously. But we're aren't going to get nearly a big enough sample size this spring to be able to tell how he will do in the regular season. He could dominate and then get lit up. I don't think we'll need to use him a ton in big situations during the regular season. I mean, he'll get a few here and there like Marte did, but if he can get an occasional lefty out, not a bad option. I don't know if we'll see enough this spring to determine what he might do in the regular season. Ozzie will just have to go on his gut feel and hope it works. I'm fine with either him or Lopez though. Who knows. He could give up 8 runs in his next outing never to be heard from again. PS. does anybody ahve Cotts righty/lefty splits (avg.) available? I'm some kinda lazy. lol

Logan got E Chavez out. That's better than what most of the pitchers on this staff can do. He retired 6 of 8 A's regulars which is like some kind of milestone for this team.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) According to George Offman of The Score, both Podsednik and Contreras have tendonitis. Both problems should work themselves out. Hermanson received an epidural shot and is scheduled to pitch Friday. Herm on Pods Herm on Contreras

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) It doesnt matter. Some minor league scrub gets torched at the end of the game, does it really matter in the season plans for the white sox. Exactly. Ozzie doesn't care. He wants to see the kids. -

QUOTE(SouthsideBlitz @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) Looks like he wanted vengance from his bad last outing. His last outing wasn't too bad. 1 1/3, giving up a bomb to Chavez, which all of our pitchers have done over the years. The outing before he got bombed. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Well, Billy Koch said the velocity would come back after spring training, and it never did. Instead of just judging guys based on their ERA so far, some of us are analyzing their mechanics, etc. When I saw Jenks last week, he seemed to have a weird arm angle for him, and his pitches were cutting a lot. No one is freaking out about Jenks yet, but it's not like he's a known commodity, and guaranteed to be a superstar. You worry about everything and everyone in every situation. Whether they need worrying or not. So it's kinda hard to take it seriously. Seriously. The only people worried about Jenks are on this board. -

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) A lot. We are depending on Jenks a great deal this season and even moreso now that Hermanson is done. And so you would be worried because he didn't have a perfect inning? When obviously working on one pitch? When he had given up 1 HIT in 4 previous innings? WHen it's SPRING TRAINING. Seriously. Do you know Bobby's ERA last year? Jose's? Garland's? Etc, etc. It's spring training. It's one thing to worry about the second lefty spot, but that had nothing to do with that inning. -

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) The bullpen is a worry regardless of what Bobby just did. Hermanson looks like he's done and the second lefties are terrible. That's two potential holes in our bullpen. And? What does that have to do with Bobby Jenks and the inning he just pitched? -
