Sox vs Rox 3/15 Official Game Thread
jphat007 replied to southsideirish71's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) At what point do we become worried? Sometime in May? Then again. Our offense was still sucking in May last year too -
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 11:33 AM) Is this sarcasm? Do I really have to explain the fact that it might make it more difficult for him to get his shoulder loosened up in order to swing? Also, just because it's a strain, it doesn't mean he's picking up a bat today and facing live pitching. Sounds like they hope to have him ready by the end of the wk, which would probably allow him to be ready for Opening Day. I think it was sarcasm. Pointless sarcasm, but sarcasm none the less.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) fathom said he'd miss one game. Yeah, that's serious. Where should I send the flowers? Yah. One game that's almost 3 weeks away. I just heard the score say they've seen the MRI and it's just a strain. whoops...
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) Well, a statement just came out today that said it was the muscle and not the joint, which means its just a strain. I would not call this a serious issue. I know. That's what I've been saying!

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) I know, what a joke, right? Myself, when I know everything's definitely a-ok, I love to make contingency plans and talk about Plan B and fly in experts. I only do that stuff when I know it's totally unnecessary. Otherwise, where's the fun? Where did I say everything is a-ok? You're going to have a tough time finding it. I said it is not as serious as fathom made it out to be in his first post, as has been corroborated by all of the stories last night and this morning. Ozzie is talking about a Plan B because the reporters asked him what he would do if Pods was out opening day. That has no bearing on how serious it is. He wouldn't be a good manager if he didn't have a plan for most any situation. But hey, if you want to believe it's more serious and Pods arm is going to fall off, go for it. Ignore all the facts and tell yourself otherwise. Makes no difference to me.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 10:38 AM) I never made a diagnosis. You need to work on comprehension. LOL. You are sitting there talking about how serious it might or might not be. And my post said that our staff believes it is not serious.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 08:28 AM) So Dr. jphat007, what you are saying is they don't know exactly where the pain is coming from, enough pain to keep him from playing, but they do know that it isn't serious. How do they come to this conclusion? LOL. Our head trainer said it doesn't appear serious. I think I am going to trust his diagnosis over yours if you don't mind. Every story that came out this morning said the same thing. We actually saw some info that said he could be in the lineup this week, but nowhere did it say anything about longterm. Hmmm....

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:19 PM) Jphat.....read any medical book, and you'll know that joint inflammation can be due to injury of nearby tendons, etc. There's no doubt he has inflammation.....they're just trying to see what's causing it. But if you would actually read the story they don't know if it IS joint inflammation. Pods said they are going to try and determine WHERE the inflammation was. But like I said, why bother with what the story says.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) All I know is that Podsednik hasn't been playing at all this ST. There is a reason for concern, regardless of what anyone thinks. Let's not be lemming Cubs fans and assume that Prior and Wood will be healthy to start the season. Yah, lets just ignore the facts in the story and say that Pods is going to miss opening day ! Let's ignore what Pods says about his own body and draw our own conclusions jsut for the hell of it. This reminds me of the Buerhle episode last spring. Only they actually SAID he'd be out 4-6 weeks.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) Is Podsednik an MD or a DO? Hmm. Should I go on his opinion or the opinion of somebody who has not diagnosed Pods at all. Hmmm. I wonder if Herm told him anything at all or just left him in the dark... Seriously. All it takes is a little bit of reading the story.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) Jphat....all we're saying is that this seems more than just the "sore" shoulder that Pods was portraying the injury as. Sore shoulders make it very hard to swing the bat, and that seems to be what is worrying Pods right now. At least this isn't one of our starting pitchers who are complaining about a sore shoulder (knock on wood). It is inflammation. They said the only question is if it is in the muscle or the joint. Pods thinks it is in the joint. They are getting a second MRI to determine where the inflammation is ocurring. They can give him a shot to get rid of the pain if need be, but obviously they would like to know where the inflammation is occuring first, which is why they need to inject the dye and then take the MRI. All of that taken from the story. Not guessing.
-
QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) I think they are checking because if it was just a strain or something small it would be better by now, its not, therefore they think its something worse, which means its something worse. I'm not saying I'm just saying LOL. My bad. I didn't know that you knew how long it took for an inflammed shoulder to improve. You an MD or a DO?
-
QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) Whats even more disturbing is that its going to be his second MRI. Which means they have no damn clue what it is. If its a tear, we are in trouble. I personally think they are checking to make sure his arm doesn't fall off. The question is if it is inflammation in the muscle or joint.
-
QUOTE(TLAK @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) Fathom, isn't Jerry Owens best suited to take Pod's lead off role? My God, two rookie OF on a defending WS team. One other thing to bounce off you, Alex Cintron looked fantastic on TV last night. If Iguchi struggles could you see Cintron at short and Uribi at 2nd? Iguchi will be at second unless he is hitting under .200 in mid May.
-
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) B/c teams love mentioning all the health problems their players are having... I meant the reporters would get it from them. They wouldn't volunteer the info. They would certainly have no reason to hide it. This isn't football.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 08:44 PM) This thread is going to be good. It's the battle of the ultimate pessimist (fathom) versus the ultimate optimist (jphat007). Who will win? Tune in and find out... I won last year when we won the world series. According to fathom we ahd the biggest choke in MLB history.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 08:41 PM) I guess Ozuna could start against some tough lefties. He hit them well last season, even though his defense is shaky. But you are just assuming that Podsednik won't be ready to start the season. We don't know that yet. Sure we do. It was suggested in that article. Oh wait.....
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 08:37 PM) Considering he went from saying everything is fine to saying he can't get the bat through the zone, it doesn't sound like things are improving at all. I know you're the most optimistic person on the face of this Earth, but this isn't what I would describe as great news. LOL. There has been nothing in any article to suggest that he will miss opening day. If that thought was in the mind of the team you can bet that they would have mentioned it in the article. But I don't know why I should be surprised.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) Pods won't be ready for opening day. Oh snap. They sent the MRI directly to you? ANd you are an MD? Nice. I had no clue. I better put the MD in there. Fathom, MD Looks nice. They'll just give him a coritsone if necessary.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) I still can't believe they're really serious about this kid making the team. If they are (I pray they're not), they need to consistently put him in situations such as the one against Oakland. Yah, might as well. I believe thats why he's in big league camp now.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 06:36 PM) Wow, I didn't know that. He retired all of them? I believe he gave up 1 hit and 1 walk in 2 IP, which was better than the rest of them.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) I agree. If they're really serious about this kid, let's see what he's made of. Put him in there against the absolute best hitters the other team has to offer. I'm pretty sure it would be ugly. He faced Oakland starters the other day.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) Id like to see the starters to play more starting next week. They'll start playing more at the end of next week. Until then expect Oz to play the keeds and scrubs and expect mo losses.
