QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) So...let me get this right...you think our 2b/SS combo is the worst in baseball history after 1.5 months...but yet you can immediately come up with another combo that is nearly as bad. In other words, you think 2 of the worst combos in baseball history are happening right now. Out of 110 years of baseball...2b/ss combos this bad have never ever been seen. You see why I'm ridiculing that a bit? I think it's safe to say that he doens't think they are the worst ever. He's saying that they are really really really f***ing bad players.

Well, if we weren't 7 games out from a signficantly better Twins team I'd be pretty pissed right now!
-
Well, the offense sucks, the starting pitching sucks, the bullpen sucks. That's not a good combination.

wow

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 9, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) jphat needs to go over to Rios' home tonight and cook him dinner or something. I wonder what he'd like to have? I'll fix him a steak with some of my crow.

Have a day Alex Rios!

I hope Detroit stays close so MInny can't run away with it. Poor Beckham stinks.

Man, Livan Hernandez looks incredible. The NL really sucks.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 9, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) The bad luck was Alexei at the plate there. Oh, so it was just the bad player type of bad luck.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 9, 2010 -> 01:09 PM) Bad luck here, we get one run. What was the bad luck? I was in the bathroom real quick.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 9, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) Dude, just enjoy that Rios is playing well. There's no reason to worry about the money aspect now, what's done is done. I was talking in general. Not in relation to his contract specifically. I'm worried the payroll is going to go a good bit lower next year.
-
Well Rios sure has been good this year. I'll eat some crow on that. Hopefully we'll have some money available to get him some help next year.

QUOTE (Mauer_MVP @ May 9, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) Way to go Vernon! Go JAYS!!! Shouldn't you be on a Detroit board somewhere? We're no threat to you this year.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 9, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) I'm fine with him in the rotation, it's not like his contract is out of control. It was arbitration money right? Maybe 1 year of FA?
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 9, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Give me a break he's been an awesome 3rd starters in the last two years. True. Unfortunately it's the middle of May and he has an ERA approaching 8.

Making a move to 8 back. When does Gavin's extension run out?
-
2 hits with RISP! Woah!

QUOTE (fathom @ May 9, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) A ton, more than Rios I knew it was high, and I know he sucked last year. I just couldn' tremember the number

Anybody know how much Vernon Wells makes a year?
-
Can anybody think of a worse 1-2 combo the last few years in baseball? Mercy

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 9, 2010 -> 01:20 AM) It is your money? Are you paying the salary? If not, why is this any of your concern? The Sox gave up a 4th starter, two AAA relief guys, and a AA arm on the verge of flaming out. We didn't lose this trade, we won the s*** out of it. How many chances in our lives as baseball fans has our favorite team taken advantage of a scenario that allowed them to bring an ace into the fold? Like it or not, but Peavy's contract was that scenario. I don't really see the need to b**** KW out getting one of the best pitchers in the game. The only reason that I bring up the money part of it is because it couldve been money spent on offseason holes. I don't have a problem spending 16 mil on a player if they are worth it. And in my opinion, Peavy has to be better than he has shown so far to command that type of money that could've filled more holes. THat's all I'm saying.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 9, 2010 -> 01:09 AM) What the White Sox needed the first month was Quentin and Beckham to hit like they were expected to, and don't give me the two out of three were against crap teams because he did absolutely what a dominant pitcher is supposed to do against crap teams and that was give them little to no chance to win the game. With the filthy stuff he's had recently it's OK to be excited about him. Basically every pitcher, even dominant ones, have clunkers during the season, look at Sabathia's normal April stats, he usually is terrible. Wow, so is he done pitching after these 7 starts? The Sox only are paying him for the first 7 starts of the season? I guess it's "cool" to think that and completely ignore he actually looks like a dominant pitcher again. Is 7 games a lot to be out on May 8th? Absolutely. Does it mean the season is over. No, would be a tremendous turnaround, but let's see what happens, they still have 15 or so games left against the Twins, and in the only series they played against them this year all three games were extremely close. Wait, I didn't say people couldn't be excited about it. I didn't post anything at all on the subject. The only reason I posted is because people were getting called out. I hope they can come back and Peavy can be dominant. My point is and always has been if we are paying him 16 million, he's gotta be awesome, because that is money we could have spent on this piece of s*** offense, both before the season and in the future. I said I hope he turns it around, and I said it can be a great trade. So far it has not been.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 9, 2010 -> 12:37 AM) We traded Clayton Richard, Aaron Poreda, Dex Carter, and Adam Russell for a CY Young winning pitcher. No one should need any more time to say whether it was a good deal or not. For what we gave up and what we got back. It was. It could be, sure. So far it has not been.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 9, 2010 -> 12:41 AM) So we can call it a horrible trade and wish we had CR/AP back after a couple bad starts, but can't call it a good trade if he has a few awesome ones? Is this the same logic that goes into "ozzie didn't impact games in '05 or any time we win because the players are just good, but when we lose its roughly 93% his fault because he bats s*** player 6th instead of 7th" ? Got it He's getting paid 16 million bucks. 3 good starts (two against awful awful teams) out of 7 isn't what we are paying him for, or traded him for. If you think it is, that's cool I guess. I don't. Especially not good starts when we are 7 games back of first. We needed him the first month.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 8, 2010 -> 11:06 PM) There are a lot of mea culpas going to be owed at this rate. I haven't seen any so far. I guess I shouldn't be expecting to see any either, though. Woah woah woah. Let's let him have more than 2 good starts before we say its a good deal. Especially meaningful starts and not when you are 7.5 games back. It's a lot easier to pitch when you are pretty much out of it. It is good that he's put two dominant starts together. Let's hope we can get him back to a place where he can show us what he's got when it counts.
