  1. Either way our staff is ridiculously sick...Praise the lord.
  2. Let's just say for an instance Hank Blalock is only a .0001 upgrade over Crede. We get a 26 year old 3B with very high potential who is signed through 2008 cheaply. We also get a CF who has the ability to hit 25 HR, walk 100 times, and get on base at a .370 clip (Anyone know Wilkerson's contract?). With trade away 1 part that we arent going to keep and one that might not sign because he's represented by the devil. Some people have been suggesting to trade Garland for a CF. Well we get a good one and we get the stability at 3B that KW probably is looking for. How can this be a bad trade? I fail to see any portion of this that would be bad.
  3. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) Carlos Lee went a full season without one. A tad bit more impressive at 3B...Just a smidge.
  4. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) No problem night. Each has played 3 full seasons now. Blalock has more RBI's, more HR's, more doubles, more walks, and more runs scored. Maybe Hank just doesn't perform great on the road in general. If those who are implying he would be terrible in Chicago just because he doesnt hit as well out of Texas needs to realize some players just don't perform well on the road no matter where their home park is located. Hank is young, signed cheaply long-term, has enormous potential, and is injury free. He's much better than Joe Crede.
  5. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) I don't like this trade at all. We don't need to totally overhaul the team. Wilkerson sucks. Dude hit 32 hr's in 04 but only 11 last year. Blalock would be an upgrade offensively over Crede, but a downgrade defensively. A major prospect? Jesus! Why do we have to rape our farm system? Wilkerson by no means "sucks". Anyone who hits in Washington is going to see a decrease in their hitting, mainly power. That stadium is ridiculous.
  6. Pods Wilkerson Konerko Thome Dye Blalock Iguchi Pierzynski Uribe Me like....A LOT.
  7. If there was any combo of players that fit in so well with both teams, I definitely thought it would be Texas. Wilkerson would be a very nice #2 with his solid OBP and Blalock was always someone I thought the Sox might go after. Not to mention that Texas is starving for SP. I would LOVE that deal.
  8. Where does our payroll stand right now? If it was Garland instead of BMac in this deal, wouldn't it only be a slightly increase (3 mil?)?
  9. Wait and see. More moves need to be made to solidify the team now. We CAN have a much better team if the correct moves are made after this. If KW has 2-3 moves up his sleeve with this being the first one, I think we will all look back on this and think it's a good move. However, until these moves are done, I will reserve judgement. If no moves are done, I'd not too excited by this move.
  10. What are the chances we sign a relief pitcher? Is there anyone left? Hammond perhaps?
  11. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) Screwgie. How about an Eliminator?
  12. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) So keep a rotation of Buehrle, Garcia, Contreras, Garland, and Vazquez and then just let Garland go after 2006 and collect the draft picks? I can see that. But what does McCarthy do in the meantime? Work on a forkball???
  13. Another Xboxish idea....Garland/Crede for Blalock/Wilkerson Pods Wilkerson Konerko Thome Dye Blalock Iguchi Pierzynski Uribe
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:24 AM) McCarthy has nothing left to prove in the minors. I know this but do you think KW will want to keep him stretched out and on regular work instead of every other day getting an inning or two?
  15. BMac starting in AAA full-time or filling the last spot in the Sox bullpen?
  16. QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) I swear to god that is the complete truth. No exageration or anything. That is how it exactly happened. Me and my buddy still joke about it and probably will for as long as we know each other. It was the most omniscient thing I have ever seen. You're freaking me out.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 11:44 PM) Even though, as we said, people hate Blalock here, I would still take him in a heartbeat over Joe Crede. Blalock for sure. I love him. That homer off Gagne in the all-star game was legendary...(to me)
  18. QUOTE(Tmar28 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) if you take away young, you are severely less stacked than you were before. front line? if he returns to form ok, but thats a big risk, especially at 12 million per year. you are right, no prospect is a sure thing. but is vasquez? You know Vazquez will be a slightly above average SP at worst. Young could be a complete flop and not make the majors. Or Vazquez could revert to Expos form, become a complete stud and make our rotation one of the best ever. Young could become a superstar and make many allstar games to come 3-4 years down the road. Let's not forget we also do have one of the best pitching coaches in the league and one of the better game callers behind the plate.
  19. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 11:28 PM) That article mentions a reliever going their way. s***, we don't need to lose a reliever when we've already lost Marte and possibly Hermanson. Baj perhaps? If we can keep Garland from going to ARZ then I like the deal. However, what happens to BMac. You know KW loves to have a backup plan in case there is an injury. I can't see KW then moving Garland without getting a 6th SP option back. Is it possible that KW still keeps BMac down for one last year? Also, the possibilities of what Garland could bring if not included in the Vazquez deal, intrigues me. What could KW be looking for?
  20. If Soriano were to move to the OF, especially in Washington, his numbers won't be anything but slightly above league average. This is his contract year. He knows that his value is at 2B. Soriano is a product of Arlington. His average and OBP are terrible. He's going to have a lot of trouble this year.
  21. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) Yeah it sure helped Olivo when he was here.. Olivo with Alomar>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Olivo without Alomar How did Miguel do after leaving his mentor?
  22. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) Well, that won't always happen. Say we're facing a guy like Travis Hafner. You think Wedge is gonna pull Hafner if we bring in Myers? Their are many other cases like that. And if an opponent puts in a right handed batter in when Myers enters, based on Ozzie's affinity for matchups, its likely he'll pull Myers right out of there. If he's only used as a lefty specialist, I'm all for picking up Myers, if only for situations like the Hafner example I just used. Yep. I'd rather have Myers who gets out almost all lefties he faces than Marte who doesnt get anyone out with regularity.
  23. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) I just read this post on a Cubs Free Agent board, when I was looking for rumors Wow, you could get a 5 tool player(Abreu), a former Cy Young winner who is still under 30(Zito) and Mike Myers to relieve, for Mark Prior, a minor league pitcher(Rich Hill), and 3-4 spare parts(I am assuming he means minor leaguers or utility players), and this guy thinks it is a bad trade because of Priors potential? Thats just ridiculous. I found this post too, and I laughed my ass off at the Dave Wannstedt reference Was that Mike Myers or Bret Myers? Hopefully the first. If not, then they have serious issues.
  24. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2251870 Wickman returns.
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) Most definitely. I think it's worth the shot. Seriously, what's there to lose? If it doesn't work out, he can still be a strong lefty reliever out of the pen. Considering that he holds the opposition to a low batting average, it's just a matter of him being able to limit his pitch count and have control on a consistent basis. Wasn't Cotts dominating in the pen before the decided to try and start him? Then after he failed in the rotation, he sucked in the pen. I seem to remember that being the case. Cotts is too valuable in the pen to screw with. If Jon is traded, El Duque and BMac round out the rotation anyways.
