QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) Glad that trade didn't work out. I can just see Delgado b****ing during the year about how he's not a DH, etc.... I'm happy we have a great player and clubhouse guy in Thome and we didn't even help the Yankees, either. Delgado's just a headache. Supreme talent though. Thome is definitely the better fit.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) But you want guys with good OBP's in front of your best homerun hitters. Pods qualifies, Uribe doesn't. True. However, I do think Uribe will get a boost from hitting there. That's not unreasonable to think. Will the payoff of a dip in OBP in the 2 hole (Iguchi to Uribe) be made up with Iguchi being able to let go hitting in a power position? Uribe will improve by hitting behind Pods and in front of Thome, most likely, and Iguchi will definitely improve hitting in an RBI position. One of Uribe's main problems in the past has been a lack of concentration. Uribe will be forced to focus hitting behind Pods. I think its going to work out. He certainly has enough talent to more than handle it.

Fine by me. Uribe really only is a "#2 hitter" for 1 AB per game. After that, he's just a fastball hitter stuck between a 70 SB guy and a 50 HR guy. Not to mention, Gooch can rake down in the order. Pretty much no holes in the lineup. If Uribe can get back to 2004, our lineup will be sick.

Pods Uribe Dye There would be a lot of 1-2-3 1st innings with those 3 going up there. With our ridiculous record when we score first, I would think you'd want Thome in the 1st inning, but that's just my opinion.

I personally don't see why there would be a benefit to putting Jermaine in the 3 hole. .380+ OBP in front of Pauly instead of a .330 OBP is quite a difference. Also, Jermaine provides solid protection for Pauly as well. What is the benefit for Dye hitting 3rd?

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) Sounds like the Sox brass want a 3-5 of: Dye Konerko Thome Can anyone else attest to this? The trib had an article either Saturday or Sunday that implied Dye was the 5th hitter. That Oz might want some protect for Dye, so moving Gooch down would do that...Something like that.

Ideally... Anderson is Rowand's replacement. Owens is Podsednik's replacement. EDIT: Eventually...

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 12:40 PM) Yeah, thank God all Minnesota received for an All-star catcher being forced from his position is some injured pitcher named Liriano and a decent bullpen pitcher named Nathan. Or how about that crappy package Indians received for Bartolo Colon? Some work out, yes.
-
Coco Crisp always kills the Sox, it seems. Any trade that gets him out of the division is fine by me. Who cares if it's marte or whatever. That's a big loss for the next couple of season for the Indians (if Marte pans out, which he most likely we obviously).

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 13, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) haha, abreu is a hall of famer? he might be one of the most overrated players in the game, but he did win the derby, right? just for the record, some splits: Bobby Abreu, 2005 Home: .304 / .423 / .535 and 15 HR Away: .268 / .387 / .417 and 9 HR Abreu's career has been extremely quiet. I don't know how anyone can say he's overrated. He's very much underrated.

New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) Garland was just one example. What if Mark or Freddy get hurt? What if B-mac isn't as good as we think? What if Vaz gives up close to 40 bombs? All I was saying is that no matter who we add on offense, for us to repeat in 2006, the pitching has to be top-flight. What if Pauly gets hurt? We better bring back the Big Hurt to ride the pine until that happens... -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 05:50 PM) To me, this says 1 of 3 things. 1. Mark Prior will not be fully healthy in the next several years and Jim Hendry has not told us this 2. There is a lot of money going to the Cubs along with Abreu 3. There are a lot of players going to the Cubs along with Abreu (Gio?) Personally, I would wager on the 1st. This happens...it screams the Cubs knowing something we don't about Prior's arm. Just comparing the prices of the contracts...you could sign DLee for 3 years with the money you'd save by holding onto Prior compared to Abreu. How about that Hendry is just a bad GM? I think that's much more likely of being the case than those 3.

New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) Tejada swings at everything? 83 K's in 654 ABs? You must be thinking of someone else, like Richie Sexson. He's probably just talking about him not walking much. Which is true, but who cares? Vladi swings at everything. Some hitters are able to hit everything. -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) We still wouldnt have a #2 hitter. Ozzie wants to move Iguchi down in the order and Tejada swings at everything, so he wouldnt be good there either. It'd be nice if Anderson showed enough ability to move the runner over consistently, but it'll probably be Gooch again if we pick up Tejada. Ozzie wanted to move Iguchi down to "let him loose" persay. I think Ozzie would change his mind with the power that would be supplied by Tejada/Pauly/Thome/Dye/AJ/Crede...Ozzie would be able to see Iguchi would be much more valuable in the 2 hole rather than the 7 hole. -

QUOTE(palehose23 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) vs. White Sox Pitching Since when have the White Sox had great pitching before this season? If anything, your comment is supporting Tejada's lack of production in US Cellular Field. With that said I don't give a damn about that. Tejada is a monster. -
Sanchez pitched against us and is young with electric stuff. Good pick up for the Mets.
-
QUOTE(chg027 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) The difference was in the defense. It was fun watching Uribe in the field. You can’t say that for Tejada. Not only would Tejada take money away to help resign Buehrle. It would also take money that could help, for what little shot we have, to sign Joe Crede. I'm fairly certain management knows whats going on. Buehrle's money is set aside IF management wants to resign him and IF Buehrle wants to return. I see no reason to not want a Tejada trade because you are afraid of money for Buehrle. If management had to chose between Tejada or Buehrle, I am sure their choice would be Buehrle.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 2, 2006 -> 11:17 PM) I like Widger and it's too late to get Olivo now but check out Olivo's career splits versus lefties... http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7028/s...er&type=Batting career vs. Left: .910 OPS career vs. Right: .569 OPS He would have truly made the perfect platoon partner for Pierzynski. Except wasn't the big knock on Olivo that he sucked at calling games? Everyone wanted to throw to Alomar instead of him. Perhaps if AJ gave him some pointers, but Widger is the man.

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) Everyone on this site (practically) complained about Dye being injury prone, well he made it through 2005 unscathed but wouldn't Anderson fit nicely in RF if something happened to Dye. Mackowiak...

Bobby Jenks did ok for being a rookie...Sox seemed comfortable in giving him a shot, just like they seem comfortable in giving BA a shot.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) LMFAO at the homers who are "overrating" a player who hasn't really played in the majors yet. They aren't overrating BA. They are just rating him higher that WT.
