Go Dye and AJ!
I read that at WSI. Supposedly, the Mets may have claimed/traded for Wilson Valdez or something. I wonder how shiny the bucket of balls we got for him is.
You could be right, considering they traded Pierzynski to clear the way for Mauer. Although, they did get Joe Nathan for him.
I don't see any possible way that Mauer is healthier NOW than he was before all of his health troubles. He's already had a significant portion of his meniscus cartilage removed in April 2004. How much more can he have left?
I don't think Mauer has any knee cartilage left. I doubt he will be behind the plate for very long in his career. I think he will end up being a DH sooner or later. But even if he gets injured again this season, the Twinkies still have two very good backups in Mike Redmond and Matt LeCroy.

All I can say is, what a bunch of crap. This Charley Walters guy must have A.J. mixed up with Ben Davis. He probably heard a blurb about the Sox possibly trading a catcher and just went with this BS story.
Widger is hitting a respectable .265 (9 for 34) this spring and he seems to know what he's doing behind the plate. After hitting .350 (7 for 20), Ben Davis hasn't seen any playing time. I know they don't want to overwork our catcher's knees during Spring Training but it seems kind of fishy. It's almost like they don't want Davis to lose any trade value.
That is correct but so be it. Ozuna is outplaying him and deserves the spot. Hopefully, Valdez will go unclaimed, we will be able to sign him to a minor league deal, and send him to Charlotte. If not, oh well...
Chris Widger is a non-roster invitee and he has no minor league options left. He would have to clear waivers and sign a minor league contract with the Sox to be sent down to Charlotte.
